[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

Anyone notice this clue?

The more I think about it what does the "exclusive" part mean? Is it a color that we haven't seen before? I'm not sure of one we haven't.
Here's wild speculation: It might be the Dutch and we get orange while at the same time they will change Australia's colors to a darkish green and gold.

Settlers entering water after researching Sailing could make them somewhat unique. I like the idea that they could quickly settle on islands faster than other Civs. What ability did China take?

The improvement connecting each other, granting a culture bonus. (Moai, Great Wall)

EDIT: Kimiimaro already answered it :D

It journalism jargon meaning new information that can't be gained from another source.

Unless you have a Trade Route to said civ or are playing as Catherine de Medici.

Also.

I don't think those can be the final Korea colors for two reasons

1. They clash WAY too much with Indonesia (and I think they are almost exactly the same)

2. It is a common practice for First Looks to have Color Schemes completely off to what the final game was

(See majority of pre-release of Civ 6, and Indonesia, Australia, and few other DLC civs)

I'm still holding out hope for the Joseon royal colors.
It looks like they took the colors of Persia and swapped them. A darker blue would have looked better. The red on the flag looks like the shade of red that was used.

1. Firaxis can't help it that the porting isn't going well. So don't withhold your money from them because of it. That just doesn't make sense, no offense.

I know you're not going to see it, but this kind of attitude is exactly why big corporations get away with so much crap in gaming. Why do you feel the need to defend 2k games? It's not Firaxis that's raking in the money from your purchase. The devs get paid a salary, they don't own the franchise. Your money goes to 2k.

And who do you think makes money from sales on Mac? Aspyr? I highly doubt Firaxis sold them the rights to Civ and now they are doing whatever the hell they want with it. Unless someone has evidence that suggests otherwise, assume that Aspyr is being paid by Firaxis to do a port because Firaxis/2k thinks it will be cheaper than doing it in-house. If a port is low quality, or late, that is always because money was saved somewhere along the line.

2. You got unlucky with your map. In fact, I haven't had a single map where I truly had some kind of unplayable starting location like you describe ever since the game came out, and I've probably started as many as 30 or 40 games. Maybe even more; I got about 280 hours in the game and I don't know how long I typically play before starting a new one.

So you're saying the starting bug introduced with the fall patch is not a thing?

Edit: And by the way, is there anyone who believes the delay on the fall patch on Mac is not because Aspyr is currently prioritizing the port of the paid expansion that is supposed to come out in just a couple months?

I’m thinking the “turtles” are shellfish. They don’t appear to be moving & sea turtles are quite fast.

Remind me please: are Polynesia definitely not a prospect for
inclusion in the near future?
Polynesia is not a civilization. Just like Native America is not a civilization. The developers seem to be making a better effort to include actual civs instead of broad cultures (Scythia and Macedon for example). If they were to include an actual civilization from Polynesia it would likely be something like the Maori. They seem to have had a large cultural impact in Polynesia. The way that the developers seem to be jumping around the world I'm sure we will see one by the second expansion.

I do - I very much doubt Aspyr will have sight of the source code until it is done for Windows.

I don't think anyone mentioned this but did anyone notice in the Korean FL video the roman numerals on the right hand side of the next turn button? I think it has something to do with golden ages, or eras.

I know you're not going to see it, but you should take your fight
directly to the game companies and stop regurgitating that tired,
unoriginal line to fanatics.

A lot of us here wanted to see Civ6 as early as we could, even if it
wasn't finished and polished. I would have gladly paid more to get
it even earlier than the official release date.
You can wait until games reach your standards and then buy them,
but don't accuse us of corrupting the games sphere because we
decided to exercise our right to choose when we want a particular
game.

I saw them, but I didn't have any insight as to what they might indicate. They may just be some UI polishing (similar to the snow drifts on tundra tiles).

I agree. Take-Two Interactive is definitely not a charity.

But they don't. Civ V was considered great among "fanatics" not when development was finished after two expansions, but after a small army of unpaid modders fixed it. Firaxis and 2k have zero incentive to invest the resources necessary to produce a polished game if people are buying their stuff no matter how unfinished it is. If you're happy to never, ever get a finished Civ game ever, sure. But that level of brand loyalty is kind of sad, to be honest.

There needs to be a viable direct competitor to Civ.

Endless Legend is the closest modern game with a budget of over a million dollars to Civ.

When did you receive the knowledge of what is good for all of us,
the game industry as a whole, and what level of "finished" everyone
is content with?

I agree that modders made Civ5 a great game. I wouldn't have
bothered with it except for Gedemon's huge maps. Same with Civ6.
His ludicrous size Terra maps are wonderful and the only ones I could
be bothered with.

Of course it isn't. And they have piddled away a lot of goodwill
unnecessarily (IMO) by not acknowledging bugs and by being
uncommunicative in general.

Don't forget Sukritact's excellent civs and UI mods; they all exceed Firaxis standards!
