[R&F] Rise and Fall General Discussion Thread

So from the first expansion gameplay stream I understand that we now have world era transition: your current era depends no more on your own progress. That's interesting. What differences will that make compared to the vanilla game?

I didn't watch the stream yet, so don't know what things are affected. The biggest effects of era transition in vanilla are:
1. Warmonger penalty.
2. New city-state quests for city-states without quests.

So, if those affects are tied to global era:
1. The fact what you can't delay era transition anymore could hurt the city-state influence. I sometimes use the trick if I'm close to complete a couple of quests.
2. The fact what global era could be behind player's actual progress could benefit warmongers as you could, for example, perform Knight beeline and have some war declarations while technically being in earlier era. However, I don't think that would work on higher difficulty levels with AI progressing faster than player in the first half of the game.

I suspect that the big bronze Buddha statue will be the Wonder movie today.

Since Chateau Frontenac doesn't seem to be a wonder, maybe Canada (if they are in R&F) will have a (Grand) Railway Hotel UB/UI? Of course, that might be odd when the game doesn't actually have railways...

That would make sense and could be a less stereotypical approach to Canada than is usually suggested. For smaller or more remote provinces, access to a trans-continental railway was a factor in joining Canada in the late 19th century. I could see a Grand Railway Hotel as a replacement for a Commercial Hub building that generates tourism as well as trade.

I hope its something we dont know what it does yet. :p So, not the Buddha statue.

See, that's why I think that it is Kotuko-in. They were free with that information on the livestream, which means they probably have the benefits where they want them and won't change them much. Which means it's ideal to show off on social media.

Speaking of not knowing what wonders do, do we have guesses?

Taj Mahal - something with golden ages (as in past civ games)

Statue of Liberty - increase loyalty pressure on foreign civs? (No recollection what it did in past versions)

South pole station - something with science or perhaps directly affecting construction of space race projects

(And I'm forgetting what else we do and don't know about....)

You forgot the Japanese Buddha statue.

We already know what that does.

Casa de Contratacion - benefits trade route yields

St. Basil's - increase religious pressure?

Temple of Artemis - growth?

I replaced that post with Château Frontenac, since I just realized what the Japanese Buddha statue does.

It would seem that the Chateau Frontenac is a red herring.

These are the 8 Wonders:
Amundsen-Scott Polar Station - Cold War
Casa de Contratacion - Cartography
Kilwa Kisiwani - Machinery
Kotoku-in - Divine Right
St. Basil's Cathedral - Reformed Church
Statue of Liberty - Civil Engineering
Taj Mahal - Humanism
Temple of Artemis - ???

What do you suggest for Château Frontenac then? I suggested something to do with maintaining loyalty for cities connected to the capital by road.
That's not going to be in the game.

Château Frontenac could do something with maintaining loyalty in your own cities connected to the capital by roads.
Didn't we run out of room for that one?

St. Basil's - we have a lot of religion wonders already. Maybe increased loyalty pressure on foreign cities that follow your religion? Or increased loyalty for your own cities following your religion? Or both?

Temple of Artemis - governor titles?

Agree with Eagle on Casa - increased trade yields.
