This is how I got into the civilization series: I would sit at the back of my law school classes and noticed that many of the open laptops belonging to students in front of me were displaying some cool-looking game. I asked one of them what it was and he told me that 5 of them were playing a multiplayer Civilization 5 game that they had started since the first day of Contract Law.
I will 'download' (probably play via Nvidia beta, switch to boot camp otherwise) it on Saturday when I'm back from vacation. I'm sure all the new meta strategies will already have been figured out by then
"I'm not letting you book the the that day off because of Civ. You're obsessed with it." is what my supervisor told me when I suggested that to him... I need to come up with another reason to book the day off and hope he forgot that the expansion is out on the 8th and 9th.
Typically absolutely everyone I know has been ill with this "Aussie Flu" recently and I've not had it yet. So hopefully I will catch it in time for the game's release...

I thank god there was no game as cool as Civilization games back when I was trying to build a career, though technically Civ 1 and later Civ2 were out, but I didn't find out about Civ2 until 1996, it's been downhill every since then.
If there internet and civ games were around when I was in high school, I don't think I could have got any studying done.
I always start a game at midnight (I'm EST) when a new Civ game drops, "just to see what it's like." Then a war breaks out between mature Sprenk and "One More Turn" Sprenk. Usually a compromise is reached so I can go to bed at 2 am.

I'm going to be overseas when the expansion is released. I'm not buying it until I come back to the states. But I will be listening to the uploaded soundtrack on Youtube and checking these forums to see the opinions/first impressions of those who pre-ordered/bought the expansion.

Wait, you're not getting X days you can take off a year and it's your choice when to use them? (aka no reason needed as long as you don't take off more than that)

I don't have to give a reason, to take a day off as annual leave; but my supervisor and other IT colleagues know I am obsessed with Civ and most likely jokingly said that. (I would be quite surprised if he did actually turn around to say no) but out of my 24 days of annual leave I get a year; I've already booked off 18 for my vacations to Vancouver and Singapore (...I want Canada to be a Civ along side Cree please~ And Singapore would be a nice Citystate [more famous then Bandar Brunei]) leaving me with only 6 days left for the rest of the year... Do I really feel I need to book 1 or 2 days off leaving me with 4-5 days left? ...it's only been 1 month and I'm already struggling to save my "holidays"... I wanna play Civ6 Rise and Fall sooner...
Thank you, been wondering. That's 6 AM Thursday here in Sweden. Luckily for me I'm on sick leave recovering from surgery until February 18th!
I'll get up with my son and wife, wave them goodbye as they head for kindergarten and work, and then, get the covfefe on. Exited? YES! And on Friday 9th I'm off to a friend for a first two-player coop LAN game. So that will be my first two days with R&F.
It just occurred to me that the Government Plaza's +1 adjacency bonus towards districts is going to have interesting ramifications on the Japanese city that builds it (in addition to nearby cities that are within 3 tiles of it). Seems like you'd want to build it in what you anticipate to be one of your better cities and very carefully plan out your districts.

In one of the videos it was shown boosting a Seowon, the First Look or the Korea livestream maybe. (As an aside, I die a little inside every time Ed Beach says "say-oh-wahn." )

I die a little inside every time when I see the ahistoric portrayal of Seowons as generating large amounts of science when in reality they were just Neo-Confucian schools that trained the Parasitic upper class (Yangban).
Seowons flourished during the Joseon Dynasty period in Korea (1392 AD to 1895 AD)
We can see the end result by the closing of the 19th Century in Korea with literacy rates well below 5% (World average was 20% and the USA was 89%) and an average life expectancy of about 23 years. (America’s 41 years and Europe 43 years) If anything, Seowons should give culture and not science.

You seem to know more about Korean history than me. I don't question it too much, but why is Korea portrayed as a scientific powerhouse in this series? People just seem to take it at face value at this point that Korea will have science bonuses.
