Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

I'm sorry to post this if it has been done before, (I went through about 10 pages of this thread before giving up) but I can't seem to settle in the areas covered in jungle. Is it supposed to be like that or am I having a problem? I know in some Modpacks you can't settle on desert squares, so I was just wondering.

i have a problem. when i start the extended version it will end after 540 turns. its also displayed when you press F8 (victory stats).

i have not messed around with the biq. someone else with the same problem ?

A bug which will be solved in the next version. You can simply fix it by yourself (go to editor, load RaR .biq, go to scenario properties and set the absolute turn limit to 915, then save), but you will have to start a new game to see the effect.

Welcome to CFCs and RaR !

You can settle jungle (and also swamp), but only with the hardy versions of the settling units. They are more expensive in terms of shields, but cost less population. You cannot settle on desert, mountains and volcano tiles in RaR.

Thank you so much. I like this version of the game alot and I was hoping the jungle thing was just a problem on my end so I wouldn't have to stop playing! I've been a Civ3 fan for a while now, and this Mod is great. I feel like there are so many more opportunities now. Can't wait to get started again.

You also can't settle in Tundra either. Forest in tundra is fine though.

Also note that some early "plain" settler units can't move over mountains either if I remember correctly. Need the hardy kind for that.

I've been playing DyP for over a year and finally download RaR at work and take it home (via a USB drive, man those things are great!) So I spend a little time struggling with installing the mod and the updates (I'm not that great of a techie guy but can do some basic troubleshooting.) I fire up the ol' game and get blown away from the start!

RaR makes DyP look antiquated! Kudos to the whole team for the wonderful work! Kinda frustrated with some of the bugs (arrows not right in the tech tree but you guys probably know that already) but still astounded at the wonderful game play! Can't wait for the official 1.03 update or new version.

I took a step down in difficulty like other's said might be needed. I don't think this is necessary if you played DyP for a significant amount of time. The play is almost identical to DyP compared to going from plain Civ to DyP that I will be back to testing myself on Emporer.

I must admit I've not read all 64 pages of this thread, but I'm having an issue with 1.03 (extended) and wanted to raise it. My apologies if it's been brought up already.

I got a crash where the game was looking for "Ship_of_the_Line.INI" when the folder/file was actually named "Ship of the Line". OK, no problem, I renamed the folder/file and continued merrily on. An hour or so later, I got another crash, this time looking for "Ship of the Line". Since I renamed the folder/file, It's now looking for the other name.

Has anybody else seen this? Are there two different units that call for this ini? Is there a simpler fix than copying the folder (What I did, which means I now have two folders for the same unit essentially)?

Another mention, is that playing the Extended version, My game ended at 1850. I opened the biq file, and changed the scenario to 915 turns. It appeared to have not been set properly.

Again, If these are already mentioned, my apologies. A quick google search of the thread didn't reveal any discussion of "Ship of the Line" that I saw, at least.

Thanks for the great mod!

Edit: As confirmed below, the fix is what I've done. Soo many posts in this thread! Anyway, thanks.

Actually, the Ship of the Line problem has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread. In post 1275 is told how to fix it.

I wanted to post about my observation of the foot units line and the need or lack of saltpeter.

In my current emporer game (and about the most challenging I've ever had actually), I had iron thankfully (I hate not having iron). So pikes all around. I discover Alchemy and bam, no saltpeter. None anywhere near me either. The bigger suckage is that I am Korea and can't build my UU without it. So after some trades I secure saltpeter for 20 turns. But most likely they won't trade it to me again. So I build a lot of my UU. Sure enough, can't trade for it and nobody will trade it to me for anything.

Ok, I just need to survive to Rifleman. BUT, as I get the technologies for things like Arquebusier, Halbrieder and even the musketman I soon realize something: They all have a defense of 4, just like the pikeman. Each upgrade really only brings more offensive firepower. Even line infantry is still 4 defense. You don't get an upgrade in defense until Rifles at a 5. And they don't require saltpeter.

So not having saltpeter isn't all that bad defense wise cause a pike is just as good as line infantry just on defense value. So long as you have horses and iron you can easily survive with no saltpeter unless you have a UU that requires it of course and you can't trade even once for it.

While I do agree that Saltpetre isn't ubercrucial, Line Infantries are very well stronger than Pikes/Halberdiers, since they have +2HP; Muskets +1HP.
So, a (vet) Pike is effectively 5*4 =20 "power", and a LI 7*4 = 28. Taking the defensive bombardment into account (ok, Trebs/ Horse Archers have that as well, but weaker), a LI is quite likely to promote to elite if defending a city with backup, ending as a 9HP unit.
And, there is no Saltpetre-free amphibious unit at all in the Middle Ages.

Bottom line: Yes, you can life without Saltpetre - but, it ain't a sideshow resource like Elephants or Camels.

True, there is the extra hit points and stuff, forgot about that. But if you don't have it it's not the end of the world. Build a few extra pikes to make up for the hit points and that would help.

If the defensive bombardment actually did more than maybe knock off a hit point, I'd consider mass upgrading to line infantry and other early gunpowder units. As it stands, my only reason for doing so is having too much money. Fact is, defensive bombardment just isn't that important in civ.

Yes, defensive bombardment is sadly limited in is effect due the fact you cannot change RoF for it.Since RaR uses higher base hitpoints for the ranks and progressive hp-boni for the units, it is even less useful than under stock rules and it looses also more and more impact if the game progresses to industrial and modern era.

are there supposed to be amphibious units that don't have it in the description in the civilpedia?
in my current game I've noticed quite a few amphibios units. I was amphibiously attacked by a unit that looked like the vanilla warrior. And I did an amphibious attack with some sort of asian sword unit. I think samurai. Sorry I don't remember the exact units, but I do know I didn't see amphibious listed in their descriptions
playing with the 1.03 beta biq
not complaining about it, just curious

Actually, Line Infantries have only +1 HP, their advantages over Musketmen are increased attack (6 instead of 5) and bombardment (7 instead of 6). The first +2HP Infantry units are Riflemen.

well it turns out I might be an idiot(not the first time :)). I rechecked and it looks like the asian unit I mentioned was an asian swordsman, which does list amphibious in the civilopedia

Question: For the game to work properly, do you need to move the WWII and Japanese unit folders into your C3C folders? Or can you just leave them in the PTW folder?

They just need to be installed wherever PTW would put them. For example I have the PTW expansion so I didn't need to download them and I've never moved them anywhere.

And welcome to RaR. It will change the whole way you view C3C, believe me.

Oh, and check out the graphics pack that Rufus did. I don't think they've been included in the "official" RaR yet.

EDIT: Here is the thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=100947
I also just bumped it since it hasn't had a post for over a month.
