Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

I notice that a lot of buildings give +25% bonuses, such as the forge. But the basic editor only allows +50%. How do you do that?

You arent using a hacked map editor? My c3c editor only has all or nothing checkboxes for +50% in there.

So, no idea how to get the map editor to work with RnR?

To tell the truth, our problem is that we don't understand why it does not work for you...;)

There is no special editor for maps, only the Civ3ConquestsEdit.exe; and with exactly that one, the enitre mod is made, as well as the World Maps.

My only guess is that you tried to open it with the Civ3Edit.exe, the one from the original game.
You need to use the Conquests version, of course.

I assume you use the c3c one indeed (besides, the same ability was at least in PtW edit already):

Just curious if anyone out there has had a game that involved modern age warfare from both you and the AI.

Did the AI understand how to use combined arms? (jeeps, artillery, modern infantry, airdrops and air support, etc)

Did the AI resort to nukes if they started losing (or did they use them just for kicks)?

What level of difficulty and map size/type were you using?

No, Im not using a hacked editor, but when I try to "import" either the Rise and Rule mod, or the rise and rule extended mod to the map I want to create, it says the import was only partially sucessful and I cant place any of the new resources, which is really odd. I downloaded and installed the "extras" and I have Civ 3 + Conquests, so I dont know whats going on.

That is the error message I get when I try to import the rules to a new map I am editing. It is driving me up the wall.

Oh, that one - you always get it. Just ignore it.
I think you get it anytime you import rules from a mod (since the editor founds no map data). Don't forget you need rules+players. Why you can't place resources, I don't know - do they show up under 'rules'? And, do you have the correct base terrain selected?

Denyd: I've seen some. Jeeps they use effectivelly in 1.03 (better cover your workers), as well as gunships and armies. Marines, occasionally. Never seen nukes myself, but I've read some reports indicating at some point they nuke like no tomorrow...
Artillery...what would you expect, it's the AI after all :(.

Just open the RnR .biq file, create your map, and save it off as another file name. Then you won't get that error.

When you go to create another map, load the map that you saved, not the RnR .biq. The rules will still be there, and you don't risk corrupting your RnR .biq file. :)

The trouble with that is I cant place any resources specific to RnR, even if its the correct terrain type.

You can get really nice cities in RaR.
Sadly, the most important information on this picture is just hidden
But this city actually produces 3100 beakers a turn (on 100% science). At 60% it`s still 1860 beakers probably more than most remaining countries. :p
This city contains every trade enhancing wonder (silk road obsolete) and nearly every science enhancing wonder (missing Kopernikus and Newton, because it had no forrest back then, they were all planted).

Heya!

I have something that really annoys me (about me, not about RAR really). When it is the computer's turn, and it moves a few guys into my territory (*obviously* a set-up for an attack), I sometimes forget all about them or it takes forever to find them when I remember (large map, 61% territory in my empire). Or worse, I'll be away from the screen or not watching during the computer's move, and I'll not know about it at all! Then next turn they'll attack and take a lightly-defended city of mine. I retaliate and recapture, of course, but still it's annoying.

Is there any easy way to locate incursions? Does the Military Advisor (F3) say anything about them? I try to avoid using the F3 guy, for a couple of reasons: (1) he will sometimes (rarely) crash the game, and (2) that screen takes FOREVER to load. I'll click to bring up the list of other tribes, and *that* sometimes takes over a minute to show up ... and then switching the display to that tribe takes nearly as long. Any possible causes &/or remedies?

Thanks!

WhimpyCiv,

Your problem is Civ3 related - not R&R.

The game AI ignores your Cultural borders. But is angry with you if you try to do the same.

I believe the next version - Civ4 corrects this problem.

Lets wait and see.

Hello everyone.

First of all - my gratitude and congratulations to the creators of DYP: RaR! The mod is complex, addictive, challenging, historically accurate (arguably), and fun. I played the vanilla DYP and loved it - now i sacrifice my sleep on Empire level, mostly pangea maps (archipeligos on Demigod), going after a domination or space ship win via ruthless warmongering!

I have a few questions:

1. Specialization of Cities
I have found it helpful to have some cities punch out the science while others punch out military units. What about the production improvements in these specialized cities? When should i switch from continuing to build say, science improvements to a production improvement? For example, a science city, ive built the library, and academy - should i build a production improvement before the university or just build the universtiy? I realize the answer depends of the game situation - im looking for a general response.

2. Strategy and Tactics
I dont win every Empire game I play. My last game was lost because i concentrated on securing my continent rather than checking the cultural progress of my closest rival. Just when I eliminated everyone on my continent Siam gets a cultural victory through the back door. i was 2 or 3 techs away from tech parity at the time. Serves me right for neglecting the victory conditions/score page (F8 I believe). My question is how about a separate strategy and tactics forum for RaR. The forum would provide tips on the early game where the AI runs away with the techs and cash.

Thats it for now - I just won a Monarch game via resource denial. No coal, rubber, or oil for Polynesia (my closest rival) means early victory for me!
thanks again

@kingsadvisor:
Glad you enjoy it :).

on 1).
I for one build the cheap boosters in almost any city. My usual queue is:
(Counsellor)-(culture of needed; Monument/Shrine/Academy)-Granary - Forge. I will build Slave Markets if I can afford the unhappiness. And I will build Mills.
All other boosters including Town Halls are too expensive in low-shield cities for me.

on 2): Something like that already exisists on CDG.

thanks for the quick reply Doc.

you mentioned that you build the Counselor first. what about the other trait-specific specialists? do you build them first as well? Im thinking of the wiseman for scientific. also what is a potent trait combo for RaR. i would say religious if you like to change govts (so many available in this mod) but i like to stay in republic so i tend to like militaristic and agricultural. what are your thoughts?

Are there any good "slingshot" strategies i should know about? For example in the normal civ game i like to slingshot my way into the Hoover Dam via the Theory of Evolution. What you do is pre-build the Universal Sufferage and when you research the tech that allows you to build the Theory of Evolution (i forgot the tech!) you switch your Universal Sufferage to the Theory of Evolution. Before it is finished make sure that you have Electronics chosen as your preferred tech in the Science Page (F6). When you finish building the Theory of Evolution it will give you 2 free techs - something and electronics - effectively slingshoting you into the Hoover Dam! I almost forgot that you should pre-build for the Hoover Dam in a city on a river. You can get free hydro plants in all your cities making for a very large increase in shield production without the pollution. For me, this play is a must if i want to win on the more difficult levels - Emperor and Demigod.
So are there any plays like this in RaR? with all the GW that allow free techs there should be something with a large benefit on the back end.

thank you everyone for your replies.
