Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

I had this problem too.

Go to your C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\RAR\Art\Units folder and rename Ship Of The Line folder to Ship_of_the_Line (capitialization counts). Also, inside there's an .ini that needs to be renamed to the same.

If you load up the turn before the crash after renaming the folders, you should be able to continue on from the crash point.

Are there any strategy articles for this mod anywhere? Some of the rule changes completely change the conventional civ wizdom so it would be very nice to see what general principles apply to this version.
Also, with so many new units and techs it would be interesting to see which ones are more popular than others.

This mod is awesome, although it has problems. There are link-problems in the late game, for me it were the units 'P-38 Lightning' and 'Italian Infantry', which were missing.
Also the game has problems assigning good starts. With normal settings Archip/70%, Normal/Temp/youngest settings I often ended up in the middle of deserts or grasslands, not to mention tundras. with only grassland and hills sorrounding the capital and no bonus resources it is impossible for a non-AGR civ to have a capital bigger than 2. workers dont help since they can't do anything but build roads at the beginning. moving the settler sometimes helps.
oh and after two games on monarch/emperor i find the 50000 civ cult victory condition a little too easy. I think 60-65000 would be better.
This was the 1st impression. But even with these one of the best mods i've seen.

I hope someone answer when and IF the 1.04 official update will come, and I hope BOTH the shorter and Longer version...

May be some time yet - before/if a new version is released.

Isak who does all the hard work putting the mod together is currently working for Firaxis as a consultant on Civ4. :goodjob:

Good for Civ4 but not R&R.

Hence the delay in releasing an updated version.

wow.. is a very powerful mod from the original one.
i play it ..and got some bug...
some links are incorrect , the Sacrifices Altar got pic in C3C, the engine propeller tech must be in era advancement, secret agent , civilopedia text about Fundamentalism...etc.
but overall is fun to play...which it motivated me to do mod like this one!

Dear ALL:
I find a lot of unit documents are missing, I copy and paste them, so hard job.But I still admire the MOD maker, great job they do.

FYI ... I did have Rise and Rule installed before but recently I had to reinstall because of a new PC. I've downloaded from the main site here http://civ3.bernskov.com/RaR/download.asp but it is flagged as by CA eTrust Pest Patrol being infected with the Win32.IRCFlood backdoor when I go to execute it. Yikes it's a pretty serious backdoor ! I went to inquire about the error wondering if it is bogus or real and the page for CDG doesn't seem to be accessible with the title showing sucks ass. Not sure what is going on here but it seems that this excellent mod has recently been compromised.

CDG has moved off to http://www.evo-games.net/Home/. DYP/RAR hasn't moved with it since we're not really working on the mod anymore, so there's little point in getting a forum for it there.

About virus warnings, which of the two download sites did you get it from? None of them are hosted by us - one is hosted by Civfanatics on 3ddownloads.com, and the other is hosted on fileplanet, so if someone found a way to break through these site's security measures, it's possible that the file has been infected ... but I think it's probably a bit more possible that eTrust was a bit overzealous. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard of that ;)

3ddownloads.com is where I downloaded the RAR file. I also tried from file planet however it just waits for me to pick one of the pay services.

Too bad I liked this mod but time to move on I guess and get on with CIV4 -- thanks Isak

Isak, does it means that you have give up about new RAR versions?

Regards,

Emilio.

AFAIK, there is somewhere a 1.04 beta of RAR around (it was an inofficial release for SG games). It has no major issues; it was just not everything we once planned for RaR in general and 1.04 especially.

The main problems with developing RaR for Civ3 any further are the restrictions of the editor, the missing final (=fixing some annonying bugs, like the AI-military-leader bug) conquests patch and last but not least the appearence of Civ4 - it just offers so much mod potential that modding Civ3 feels like...well, I can't really say...I haven't touched Civ3 anymore since playing Civ4 the first time.
In a civ world with unit promotions, a cool civic system and a hugely improved AI Civ3 just feels strange with all its bugs, exploits and annoying moments. No doubt, there are many pleseant memories left for me (which made up for all the shortcomings), but no way to light the fire again.

But I'm convinced we will see some high-quality "RaR-style" epic-scale mods for Civ4.I would like to work in such a project again and I have already some ideas in my head; however, I will have to dig in modding Civ4 deeper, which will need more time.

Yeah, I would love to work on a CIV RaR, but free time is something I find myself with very little of lately. I too expect to see many "RaR-style" mods coming out soon.

To be honest, I haven't even played the released version of CIV. I think the last time I played CIV was a couple months ago, or a couple months before that. Not for lack of interest or desire.

Great mod. My home computer can't run civIV, so I am stuck with civ3. Things started to get boring and then I decided to try something different and installed RaR 1.03. Wow.

I did a quick run through this thread, but unfortunately its too long to read everything. I know that information I need is somewere here, but it will be too time consuming to find it, I'll better ask:

WHERE is it possible to download RaR 1.04 beta?

or alternativley:

Is there a list of fixes, that could be done manually to get rid of bugs of 1.03? I found the correct worker strenght values, I correceted the ship_of_the_line folder, what else should be done?
