Oh, man, even
more work to do.
I haven't played in so stinkin' long I can't even remember what its like anymore. A long time ago I did a DYP mod to Marla's excellent real-Earth map. And then RaR came out.
Then TetK came out with his awesome large map.
All I can say is that my hat is off in salute to you guys. I understand what's involved in making this mod (because of my efforts), and I also understand why there aren't any world maps for DYP/Rar (because its a monumental epic undertaking to place the resources, hooking up all the units, etc. and
everything). I
truly appreciate (and understand the magnitude) all the work expended in putting this creation out.
The first time I played DYP I was hooked. When RaR came out I was electroshock therapied to love nothing but RaR. It is SO cool (words fail me). The closest competition is TetK's scenario/map, and I understand
why it takes as long as it does to come out with these things: there is
so much work involved in these creations. I spent literally
months updating just the Excel spreadsheet (hey I'm a systems analyst - documentation is
everything) to get the latest RaR to conform to mods I've already implemented to previos versions. I literally spent months researching placement of all the resources (except for one thing: all the resources are on Marla's
small map). Now I have to transpose the placement of ALL the resources from Marla's small map to TetK's BIG map. What a chore.
Everytime I open up the editor and look at the map, ALL the resources are still in their same positions. I close the editor, and hop into the cockpit of my Ferrari F2002 racer (or -16 block 52) and tool around for a little while. A week or so later, I open up the scenario in the editor and the same resources are
still in the same places. The gnomes are clearly
not doing their job. I've spent so many heartbeats modding Falcon4, F12002, MoO3, Sub Command, Unreal Tournament its ridiculous.
Sigh.
Oh, man, woe be me.
I refuse to play unmodded CivIII (can't afford to upgrade), and won't play CivIII without my
vision incorporated into the scenario I do play.
I hope that this post doesn't sound like I'm complaining. Because that would be akin to me complaining about all the slopes before me that absolutely
need to be skied.
