Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

I am using RaR 1.02 and enjoy it greatly. I have run into one problem. When I tried to build a Heavy Frigate, I got a file not found trying to open "ship_of_the_line.ini" which caused the game to exit. Should it really be looking for "ship_of_the_line"? I can't find an files relating to a Heavy Frigate. Can they be found somewhere?

OK, so I finally got hold of v1.03, tho I know it's only a beta version. A question which may be really naive - can I load up a game I was playing in 1.02 in the new version? I was doing really well as Tibet (Regent), but now I'm starting to get more tech, the workers are so slow it's getting a bit silly.

You should be able to load it and to play without problems. The only thing changed is the .biq and old saved games have the old .biq conserved with them.So you can play them, but of course you will see no effects of the changes made in 1.03 (which means still slow workers here)

I found your problem :D

In the Pediaicons.txt in the RAR/text folder very near the bottom it has -

"#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Heavy_Frigate
Ship_of_the_Line"

It SHOULD say "Ship of the Line" (the name of the unit folder) and NOT "Ship_of_the_Line"

Actually, the underscores are no mistake. The unit is supposed to use the 'Ship_of_the_line' unit from Conquests/Conquests/Napoleonic Europe, but someone (hint: it's usually me, when I say someone) removed the reference to the Napoleonic Europe path, thinking that it was no longer being used.

You can fix the problem by removing the entry as above though, thanks. :)

And there'll be a proper fix in the 'final v.1.03'.

Thanks for all the balance feedback too. Beam, we don't get a lot of MP feedback, so please keep coming back here with it. :)

I've noticed that when I go from Democracy to Fed Republic, my corruption actually goes up. I checked the editor, and corruption is supposed to be "rampant" under Demo, but "minimal" under Fed Repub, so why is this?

Maybe the OCN for Demo is hardcoded? I've got saves if you need them.

Thx!

I doubt there is anything hardcoded for a special government. This would mean a special combination of parameters (or just everything which is labeled as Democracy by the player) is defined as "Democracy" in the code, which is unlikely and doesn't make sence. The OCN is modified by the corruption level AFAIK, but that doesn't explain your strange observation. Are you sure you refer to increasing corruption? If it is just income which goes down, the reason may be lack of free units and increasing support costs per unit.
If it is really corruption, then well...I don't know

RaR rookie question: If I go to the link in Isak's signature, and download RAR_1.02_Full.exe from one of the mirror sites, do I still need to download the patch with the extra files from Play the World (I do not have the original version of Play the World -- only the portion that came w/ Conquests)?

I'm just saying that since you can't adjust OCN in the editor, that maybe it retains the original OCN for vanilla "Democracy" for the RandR version, even though you've checked "rampant" corruption in the editor. BTW, coruption under Demo in RandR is far from rampant, it seems milder even than it's equivalent in vanilla.

You're right about income going down when switching from Demo to Fed Repub, it was unit costs. However, there was little, if any, improvement in corruption. Going from rampant to minimal should have a much larger impact.

Maybe if you renamed Democracy to something else, it would work as intended. I know from reading the SG's that people seem to avoid Demo anyway, but I've been very happy with it. WW doesn't kick in for at least 20 turns if you're attacked. And that can usually be arranged...

;)

Perhaps make two..."classical democracy" and the other "modern democracy" ? I doubt that Athens Democracy was the same as Modern and this would represent that???

Umm, there's (ancient) democracy, and there's (modern) constitutional monarchy, social democracy, and federal republic. I think between those three modern governments, one probably fits your mental image of modern democracy.

@ wildWolverine

You still need the extras patch.

Again, I doubt corruption is in any way connected to the government name.
The OCN is affected by many factors and you can only alter it for world size and difficulty via editor. The differnce between governments is created by the corrution levels and hardcoded. For further information, I recommend alexmans great corruption article:

I agree, I often have the feeling corruption of democracy in RaR isn't really rampant, too.But this feeling doesn't mean there is something wrong with it.Remember, RaR has plenty elements which reduce corruption: more FP-style wonders (and some which combat corruption in other ways) and additional corruption reducing improvements (especially for commercial civs).

I'm not 100% sure if I have the latest release of the mod, but in the game I'm playing now I was shocked to see that Heavy Frigates were priced at 14 shields. Now I think it's a typo, and meant to be 140.... and I'm pretty sure you are aware of this, and prolly have it patched in the latest release.... just wanted to make sure tho...

Some minor bugs...

- Serious alpha channel issues on the League of Nations great wonder.
- Please rename the ironclad to monitor (which it is according to the graphic used), and the iron frigate to ironclad (the more common alternate name for that class).
- While you're about it, the age of sail units seem to have been named for the smallest classes around. Having a "sloop" in the renaissance era is like having a "coastal patrol boat" in the modern era. Even frigates were considered minor vessels in their day. It's like having "heavy destroyer" be the heaviest modern warship. We have cruisers, they had the line of battle.

I meant that in some pots where you'd expect to see white, you see black or some other colour instead. Not sure if it really is aplha causing this, but it looks weird. Perhaps a reserved colour is being used in the image somewhere?

i have the civilization complete set edtion of conquests where they are all bundled into 1....the location of the complete edition is
D:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\
where should i install it?

That is the correct place to install it sleeper7777777. Civ3 Complete has Conquests, so you just install it to the Conquests folder. :)

Meanwhile, I have a question of my own; there are so many new governments in RaR. I'm in the middle of the middle ages, and I'm currently a Monarchy. I don't pay too much unit costs, and I research techs around 2-3 turns. However, I would like to up the rate cap from 6 a little bit. What's the best government for my situation? I've attached my save, it's RaR 1.03, basic edition, Celts, Monarch. I have a fairly good tech lead, so at this point I'm just exploring RaR. Thanks to all for this great mod. :goodjob:

@ sleeper7777777

Put it in ...\Civ III Complete\Conquests\Scenarios

@ Ginger Ale

You should consider to switch over to Republic or Democracy (trade bonus, higher rate cap, special buildings! - Republic has better unit support and lower costs per unit, but you can't cash rush).I noticed you haven't researched them yet, but it shouldn't be a problem with your research power.

Two more things I noticed:
- sell your worker housings, they are obsolete since Feudalism and cost you still maintenance
- don't build Aqueducts in coast cities, you get the same benefit and more out of port+major port (for less shields)

ok i got the installation all worked out but.... i have a few questions
1.) where do i go to play it? do i go to new game? or do i go to civ-content and play rar basic?
2.) i can never get this to play for long because all of a sudden this pops up
art/units/medieval japanese workers/medieval/japanese worker.INI
cannot be found game will now exit
(not strictly limited to japanese can be others to )

what should i do?

I just barely downloaded this mod and after playing it a little, I noticed that pictures are missing for a large number of buildings (mostly wonders from what I can tell). Should I just reload or is there something else I need to get?

(I downloaded RaR 1.02 and it's respective patch)
