Rise and Rule for Civ3:Conquests

I've been playing my game up to the industrial age, and now every turn takes ages (10 - 20 minutes). It's obsurd. Can anyone tell me exactly why this takes so long?

The exact periods when I get these 5 minute wait times are in between diplo pop-ups, and right after I go through the recently constructed buildings.

My computer system is not to blame, either. It's only 2 months old.

Thanks for any explanations, and any possible solution.

I play overly huge maps ranging from 190x190 to as high as 210x210. Ive never had a long delay during my turn and rarly during interturn periods,in fact never with that particylaur mod. How big is your map? How many civs are you using?

ANother thing. A computer with 500mb and 3.2 processor plays lightning fast turns on mege size maps, while one with 1000 Mb and 2.0 processor is less dazzling but still great compare to Pre CIv4 setup . Both had same size 256mb video cards.

Im thinking after 500 it makes no difference for faster turns in Civ3 while a better processor can still speed things up considerably after that.

Whats your processors power and memory? Do you have a onboard g card? Ive got a ton of tricks to master virtual mem allocation but you should give some more details first

Hello, sorry to disturb, but I have a problem. I installed , little by little, the extra graphics for RnR, but the problem is that I don't know what version of pediaicons.txt is the last one and should be put in the folder and so on, so now the game is bugged and asks for a file called blood_temple when I load the mod, which isn't around at all. I might want to start the installation and patching process all over, but I need some advice:

Can someone post a list of all the required downloads and patches needed to play the full version of RnR, INCLUDING the semi-official graphics extras! I don't think I got everything right last time, for example I still only had the default civilizations enabled. I need a list of to-dos to get the full game mod, preferably with links to the different downloads. It's very difficult for people to figure out how to get the installing right. Actually, we should have had a sticky thread or something that tells you what to do.

All you need is patch 1.03 its everywhere around here. (even check the database)

Here the link to Nikox's RnR graphics patch . Download all the buildings up to post 36# the 'conglomerate'. This file has the final version of the pedia you want so make sure its taken last

If you do this you will have 90% of all the icons missing in the pedia/tech screen.

Listen up dude this will save you time. Forget about post 1, 14, 26 on the Nikoxs thread and just get the missing graphics.

:o Oh your right. I looked at the 1.04 patch and saw it went beyond fixing the infamous 'union bug' (really slow workers)

Some improvements where made to a couple Govs and a new unit unlocked from goodie huts aswell. Good Job! :)

ADDED: Link for 1.04 here

I'm playing El Mency's 360x320 Earth projection. The number of civs started at the max (31 I think), but 6 of them have died since then. The majority of the southern hemisphere is unpopulated, but North America, Europe, and the Middle East are very dense.

My computer has 2 GB of RAM and a Core Duo. I don't remember the exact speed, and I can't access it because I'm not using that computer at this exact moment, but I don't think it's the cause. The graphics isn't the issue either (X600 256MB).

I think it has something to do with exactly how many wars there are going on. I invaded one of my somewhat weak neighbors, and courtesy of the RAR design for cash, he managed to bribe half the planet into declaring war. There were already other wars going on, and as a result, we have mass alliances against every random person imaginable.

Currently, the lag times are going down, possibly due to the fact that the world war I created has finally nearly obliterated a few people. 4 more civilizations were reduced to 3 cities or less.

Great! ya Ive been hit with turns were like 20 cities are taken over plus another ten pillages to boot. All that crap adds a few seconds SO your probably right.
I don't mean to sound negative but that map is crazy!! Ive never heard of a map that big! The limit for 512 cities or something and a map thats 220x220 should hit that peak so I don't see a point to maps that big.
unless...... you modded terrain to be unsettable in many places like desert, tundra and mountains then fitted the map accordingly with arid, cold or early world age. Not a bad idea actally :goodjob:

Spoiler :
Cancelling processes can heal virtual memory supplies. Heres a list of stuff that running and what it stands forwhile you lay Civ3. You can chop off the equivilant to where its like you "Word" "Paint" and other stuff running before.
Expanding the page file is cool so is lowering system restores memory cache

You processor sounds way better then my 3.2 model but Im not sure,it may not be. Civ3 dosn't optimize duel-core processing. Im not qualified to say anything else though, I don't have all your specifics.

ANyway goodluck. It must be a monster to ley you get away with RnR on a map that size

What's the reasoning? It seems strange, plus its not mentioned in the Civilopedia.

I can't say why it is not mentioned in the cvilopedia (likely an oversight; IIRC this function was added later to the Great Lighthouse), but the reason is realism...increasing trade because of the Lighthouse - ships can found the harbour more easily and with less danger - attracts also more population(Alexandria, where the RL Great Lighthouse was build, was one of the biggest cities in those times)

Wo I remember you Pfeffersack, you havn't posted here in 15 months! . Last we heard you stopped by to anounce Civ4 version. Id ask if you have any plans for another Civ3 project but with BtS coming out next month, IM sure Civ4 version of this mods sound good again.

Anyway thanks for your part in this project. Its one of the all time greatest. I never had chance to say so before.
Makin so many techs unlock so much cool stuff that cures so many previous ailment is awesome but yet ontop still feelin we deserved your effort for a pedia with all entries all complete, man that kind of pro grade on scale that large has never been duplicated.-

You and team left good legacy with all that work. It must feel it was worth it when you see its still up at the top with almost 300 000 veiws

great mod. thanks to the creators and their supporters for their great work. i'm just playing my first game. when i capture cities their are very few improvements, if any, by the time I capture it. is this an intentional design decision? sir s

It's a CivIII design :)

You can only capture improvements that aren't wonders if they don't produce culture, and then there's a percentage chance per improvement that it will be destroyed.

EDIT: And welcome to CFC!

Double your Pleasure and Rise and Rule are Both terrible.

RAR-Problems

Many units have no sound whatsoever.

Some units are poorly created and animated.

Why use same leaderheads for new nations like Tibet. I dont want a Tokugawa leaderhead for Tibet.

Some Wondersplashes are not even completed.

MINOR ISSUES

Too many techs.

The Civ3 graphic improvements couldve been used.

It's true that RnR is rather unpolished. And doubtful that it will be cleaned up since most, if not all, of the developers have moved on to Civ4.

But I still enjoy it.

there civ 4 project is non existent at that other web site they haven't done squat or even posted in about 3-6 months

They may be workin on private forums. The other thing is the new X pak will make them try again if not. Or mybe they just hung it up.

About CEO''s dis review, After a lil editer polish and Nikox's missing graphic patch this mod was fared way better for me. Ya the unit roster is no Balancer Reloaded but very close and done earlier so far less units to pick from.

Honestly, I don't know what they're doing now. I know the official reason why the left, but that reason may not necessarily be what they're doing now.

I do know at least two of them worked extensively with Firaxis on Civ4, not so much as making a DyP/RnR mod but the core game itself.
