Rise And Rule Revisited (epic mod)

in the CCM 3 mod you can't build settlers, it's terribly stupid
The statement, that in CCM 3 you cannot build settlers is doubly wrong, as in CCM 3 you can build additional settlers by building GWs that autobuild additional settlers and from a certain tech in era 3 on you can build settlers directly.

So, I was wondering. With the new effectiveness of artillery, I would like to propose a change in the the M7, and its equivalent. Currently it has a movement of 2 and a range of 3.This is the first artillery in its like with a range greater than 1. Speaking of the M7, it was built using the M4 chassis, and the M4 has a movement of 3. I think it would be more appropriate to have a range of 2 and a movement of 3. This also makes the upgrade, which has a range of 3, more attractive.

Thank you.
With Civ 7 coming soon I got to thinking and still think civ3 with mods, especially rise and rule, is my favorite. When 4 came out I played it a bit then went back to 3. 5 and 6 were better than 4 but I found myself missing all the content rar added.
The other day I did a search and found that it had been updated so today I spent the $6 on GOG and bought 3 and am now playing this updated version. Only about 30 turns in but it looks great

I consider this suggestion for the next version of RARR. :)

Thank you very much for your kind words about RARR. :)

The "admiral of the fleet" apparently cannot upgrade to early aircraft carriers, at least for the Americans. I understand this may be by design.

Yes, in RARR this is by design for every civ. Battleships for all civs are at the end of the upgrade chain for the Admiral of the Fleet unit. The reason is that the AI cannot handle aircraft carriers properly. The less of carriers, the better for the AI. The very old civilopedie entry, listing carriers, here can be corrected.

The error was found quickly. Two ships of the numerous battleships in RARR (battleship and asian battleship) had the upgrade box to carriers still enabled (all other battleships have them disabled). The upgrade box for both ships in the next version of the RARR biq is now disabled, too. If the C3X mod is used in playing the game the text now for all battleships (even for the two mentioned above) should change to "obsoleted by" instead of "upgrading to".

ynot56, thank you very much for reporting that error. :)

Oh well, would it be possible for the Naval Academy to switch to cruisers when the battleships become obsoleted? I know probably not possible, but ...

Can the Admiral of the fleet in that case no longer be upgraded to battleships? Disappearing from the build queue doesn´t mean necessary to disappear from the upgrade chain - up to the member of the chain, when no further upgrade is possible.

Well, I sure wasn't clear in my question. I get the reason for not wanting the upgrade to carrier. I meant, that at some time after the point where the upgrade for the Admiral of the Fleet is pinned to battleships, could the Naval Academy switch its production to another vessel that would upgrade along the cruiser line. Certainly at present, the most powerful surface vessel are cruisers and what battleships exist are museum pieces.

Yes it would be possible to switch the upgrade for battleships to cruisers. I have done such a setting in CCM with the autoproduced workers changing their upgrade to partisans with a certain tech. But in RARR the battleships are more powerful than the cruisers (and in my eyes are looking better) - and this also is no contradiction to the history, as one can see with the reactivation of the mothballed Iowas. One of the reasons why the battleships in history disappeared was, that their maintenance costs were too expensive in comparison to their effectivness, including too much costs for the crew - all factors that play no role in the settings of autoproduced battleships with the mechanism of Civ 3 - and carriers in Civ 3 can not be handled properly by the AI and a mass upgrade of battleships to carriers would be a very big disadvantage for the AI civs against the human player.

Edit: May be a much better solution could be that the naval academy becomes obsolete (with tech steel hulls ?) to stop generally the autoproduction of those ships even before reaching the upgrade to battleships.

So CIV 7 is out and I'm like : cool ! let's play Civ 3 RARR, the best Civ experience ever.
I haven't played since last summer, and I'm looking up the forum to check if / when was the last update. CCM3 and 1.8 version were published recently?
Can I just upgrade the files I have from early 2024 without reinstalling the whole game?
Thanks !

Civ 3.1 and RARR 1.9 are in the works. You can find the most recent update files for CCM 3 in post 2 of the CCM 3 thread and for RARR at the end of post 1 of the RARR thread.

Ok thanks, I'll check tonight which version I'm curently using, I guess it's the name of the RARR biq I launch to play.

Hmm, maybe you could obsolete the Naval Academy with the advent of the Cruiser Project.

I think one of the benefits of the Naval Academy is the +1 movement. Could the technology obsoleting the Naval Academy provide +1 movement?

Yes, the cruiser project could also provide the +1 MV bonus to ships. There is not enough place in the techbox of tech Internal Combustion to carry the additional obsolete icon of the Naval Academy in that techbox, but with some luck there could be enough place in the techbox of tech steel hulls for such an obsolete-tech-icon - and that tech is a prerequisite of the tech Internal Combustion.

Edit: When looking at the techboxes of tech Stell Hulls and tech Internal Combustion, those changes in era 3 are working well. Please note that some techs in the next version of RARR era 3, still need some added new unit types (per example battle cruisers in tech Mass Production and interwar tanks in tech Interwar Period) or a building (gas holder in tech Chemical Industry).

This is very good, it certainly rationalizes some of the, shall we say less than perfect logic that the previous tree had. I particularly like that espionage is off nationalism and not emancipation. I'm not sure how you can determine which tech is most appropriate to obsolete the Angkor Wat, I was fine with it at industrialization, but moving it to screw propeller is just fine. With what tech is the I think you call it the steam road roller upgrade to the laborer going to be added?
