Rise of Rome revisited...

Great job, Ohwell! Now we can start standing up to England!

If we want to build up our military and if our land is fertile enough, we COULD switch to Monarchy and pump out conscript infantries to have a "Big Stick" until we get tanks. Infantry are great cannon fodder weapons pre-tanks and if you have enough you can win against a far superior enemy (coincidentially, I just did that as the Romans vs. the Russians :D).

It seems we can beat these English if we keep moving towards tanks and infantry. The English must go! Anyone care to translate that into Latin? :D

At any rate, great weark Ohwell! I still think we can push for military superiority if we manage to beat the English...they are darn scary right now...

Im downloading now. I will try to keep the peace mainly, but also build up a military deterrent. I will also focus on science and the railroads. Thanks for the advice! I will only be playing 10 turns, since that seems to be a happy medium :)

Well, I have to cut it short because I have to go to my office at work since a pipe bursted and it is now completely flooded.

Even worse is the 3 turns I got to play. Here is a brief summary.

1600 AD - pikeman in rome upgraded. I got democracy, 4 gold, 6 per turn, furs, and silks. Then I got free artistry w/map and 6 gold and 37 per turn(746 gold total, 890 overall) for wines.

1605 AD - English declared war with absolutely no provocation. They razed El-armana, Giza, and Heliopolis.

1610 AD - Captured city west of knossos and razed it, of course:crazyeyes Iriquois declare war on us because of MPP:mad:

Pager went off, work flooded(no joke). Must leave soon!

Do not remove me from this game please. I really do have to leave, I am not running from my favorite thing(war) but this can be counted as my turn. This is bad, I wish the best to the next ruler. I wan't a piece of the action next time through though. Good luck and have fun. I'll be here for my next turn unless I post otherwise.

Thanks

Here's the file!

 Well, it sucks that your work place flooded.

But it is HORRIBLE that the English declared war! We are going to die! After such a good age of prosperity, the English had to declare war:mad: ! I hope it isn't bad, oh man. I really hope the English don't kill us:o .

BTW- I hope the pipe is fixed:)

To whoever is next- Since they England declares war, DRAFT. We absolutley need more riflemen, so get training! Cancel all peace improvements, and build military! We have a chance! I suggest we mobilize if they declare war. Remember- Replaceable parts coming, so when it does, mass produce infantry and artillery!

This is happening too soon... Oh no!

Well, I found out my work just wanted my office key so they could get in. What a waste of a round trip. The door is already doomed so they shouldv'e busted it down.

We've got a real prob in this game. If we live through this, then we will be in one of two possible positions.

1. We may have abolute military success and raze many cities. We would be the rulers of the world! :)

2. We could barely be able to fight off the English and end up taking many losses before suing for peace. :(

Let's approach this slowly and intelligently. We can win if we just pay careful attention and take this war one turn at a time(with a common goal at all times of course;) ) Maybe, we can just organize a drive to take 5-6 english cities and not raze any of them. By then, they would cry for peace and we would have them held back to help our rebuilding process. This could be done if we changed govts and mobilized in maybe 5-10 turns or so. We must be able to build cavalry, they are crucial!!!!!!!

Let's do some damage:rocket2:

Dont switch governmets now! Oh no! Then we cant produce units during the anarchy!

Fight a defensive battle in Greece, save Corinth at all costs! Thats our second capitol!

Man, what a sh!t sandwich. I hate England!

Maybe the Germans and Russians would attack the Iroquois? Lets ask them. Nicely.

I know this sounds crazy, but if possible, load some ships and sail over to London. Raze the fu@ker! If we can do it, they will undoubtedly sue for peace.

Die, you English bastards!

I'm an English bastard :( ;) . I think churning out the military and holding them back/frustrating them might be our best option at the moment, hopefully forcing them to sue for peace, enabling us to build up our forces for a more decisive offensive. Course, tanks will help if we get that far :tank: .

Knight-Dragon is up, then it's my turn again!:) It's been awhile since I've played this one. I'm still fighting the Greek Wars - guess I'll have to catch up quick.

Are the English refusing our envoy? Sounds as though we should make peace ASAP as long as we don't have to give up any cities in the deal.

Only played 5 turns. Highlights : -

1615
Rushed production of riflemen in Edfu. Hoped our cavalry will hold until the next turn.....

Captured 2 Eng workers along the border.

Drafted citizens in Sparta, Thermoplyae, Veii and Cumae.

1620
Distant Edfu was captured and razed!

An Eng cavalry recaptured one of their workers back and killed our cavalry. Then our cavalry counterattked and killed it. Our knights recaptured the fleeing Eng workers (again).

Allied with the Germans against the Eng; exchanged communism with electricity. We also got all their 101 gold and 74 gold per turn. :D They probably didn't expect us to last long....

1625
The English attked along the border in force! A horde of cavalry attked Herakleia, killing two of our riflemen. But the city held and we did kill 2 Eng cavalry. [dance]

Massive civil unrests erupted everywhere.....

Then we counterattked. Knights killed one cavalry outside Herakleia. So did our cavalry. [dance]

Our ironclad sank a Iroquise galley near Pithom.

Rail fr Rome to the border completed!

We also have inf now. Upgraded some border units.

1630
The Russians and Iroquise signed an MPP!

Upgraded our catapult to artillery in Herakleia.

Destroyed Iroquise caravel near Pithom.

Upped tax. We need more money; not more science. ;) Also going on war mobilization.

1635
France has allied with the Eng against Germany!

Killed 2 cavalry near Herakleia and 1 spear.

1640
The Iroquise landed near Mycenea; all slow units. But we have nothing to hit them with.

Captured Leicester! Killed 2 spear.

Killed one more Eng cavalry outside Pharsalos. The Eng are massing outside the city. Attk is imminent. We don't have rail to this city....

End

Good news is we have 6 rubber tiles within our territory; 4 unconnected. :D

I think we can hold for now, except for Pharsalos maybe; we got inf now and some more factories about ready. Worse comes to worse; we can start conscripting citizens - we got a few cities at full cap anyway. ;)

But in the long run, this is going to be a tough game. :(

Do we have an intelligence agency? We could use it to see how many cavs the English have

Here's my plan: Stay on the defensive until the English are wrecked. Conscript inf, en masse; use them to destroy strategic resources in the British empire (nothing can kill them until tanks). Either once the English are repulsed, or once all our cities are in unrest from the draft, switch to Monarchy IMMEDIATELY! Our empire is small enough to not have a long anarchy period methinks...hope we get tanks before they do, and hope our inf has torn up their infastructure enough for them to fall behind.

At any rate, who's up after KD? I wanna take my shot at those dirty English ^^.

<Phew>

It is going to be alright! I sure am glad I picked replaceable parts, and a am REALY glad I upgraded the border pikemen:) . I think we can hold our own for a while, with our infantry. This happended too soon... I do hope you found the couple of cavalry in, uh, one of the border cities. Thankfully we have rubber
:D . I agree with Joe, we should send a couple of galleons to London and raze the F***er:D . Unless of course they have infantry :(

Yet another suggestion- BUild artillery, and lots of it! 10 or twelve divisions minimum, I have realized their necessity in the German Game;) .

Knight-Dragon- Good luck... Its going to be a cold, bloody war. Even worse than the German game, because we are a just industrialized nation, while England is the leading power.

Our great Roman soldiers have a good morale, they are going to pursue their glory and are serving their nation with greatly inflated nationalism:) . If only their were a nationalistic smiley:( .

I found this cute little song, here it goes:

"Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word, over there,
That Rome is coming..."

Sure, its an american song, but I thought it was cute:)

I would advise NOT conscripting infantry unless its an emergency.

The civil disorder from war alone will be very severe, conscripting will compound the problem causing unhappiness for 20 turns.

I think London might be too big a bite for us to chew, but from experience, razing one good enemy city is usuualy enough to get them to make peace.

Find an English city we can assault and raze it! Maybe it will end the war. Just dont double-cross our lone ally, Germany.

If we get to Motor Transport, trade it to Germany for whatever they can give us. Germany will roll their panzers into Iroquois and get them off our back.

So its Rome and Germany against the world. Sounds familiar...If we had Japan in this game it would be perfect. :D

Lets call ourselves the Axis powers!

The war came far too soon. I think that the conscription thing will work if we start losing cities. I don't know our military status, or England's, but from what I've been hearing it seems desperate enough to start conscription.

It's my turn now but I'm at work for another 5 or 6 hours so I'll gladly swap positions with Toasty. It's usually easier for me to play in the mornings anyway.:)

So, go ahead and play Toasty and good luck!

Hehe, lucky me, I had played because I wanted to see how the war would turn out (I kept my mouth shut so that whoever went wouldn't be tipped off).

I got the Germans to declare war on the Iroquois, but that in turn resulted in a Russo-German. Also I got Saltpeter from the French for Iron and Horses, and also an alliance versus the Iroquois. Our saltpeter supply was short-lived as the Iroquois destroyed the French before the deal expired.

The Germans are doing fine but can't do much against Enland. The good thing is, we DIDN'T need their help in any way. The English have absolutely pitiful defense with musketmen, pikemen and spearmen! After I killed about 20 cavs with my infantry, I turned to the offensive and took Ester, Manchester, and one other city. The English decided to revolt and aren't producing anything, and as far as I know we'll be getting the Universal Sufferage.

Speaking of war weariness, the conscription didn't hurt and helped me fend off the cav attacks (god bless you for those railways Ohwell). The thing that would turn around and bite me in the behind was war weariness. I just appeased them all to keep the production edge against England.

I'm pushing up the Western coast of the continent. I'm still having fun so I'm not gonna post the save file...I've played 14 turns so far.

The Infantry are coming.

UPDATE:

In 1710 made peace with the Iroquois, and now we have an MPP with them! Only regrets is I can't attack the English this turn...

Also got saltpeter and some silks from them for gold & dyes. Our economy still owns at 293 per turn ^^.

The Germans don't care at all...I just have to hope they'll make peace so we don't have to war them too =/.

I'm still hoping for domination or conquest.

Another update; after the Russians declared war on, and subsequently attacked the Iroquois now too the Russians are on our side. We also got a GL, Hadiran! I want to save him for theory of evolution as we have Universal Suffrage in the bag now.

Final results of my turn:

The English recaptured Ester, but we had taken Abydos. After a long string of defeats, I signed peace with them. That didn't make the Germans happy, even though we cancelled our alliance a couple turns ago.

The war turned out pretty level. We now have Cambridge, Manchester, and Abydos, retaining all of our cities except the one on the saltpeter island. We are now on VERY good terms with the Russians and the Iroquois and have a definite edge in tech. The intelligect agency was started in Corinth but after we GL rush theory of revolution we might as well build it in Rome.

We didn't crush the English in this war but once we get motorized transportation way before everyone else (all of them are now commies) we can crush the English and take our continent.

Get culture in our new cities, donsig; we'll need it.

I guess last time I only played eight turns or something, cause now I played 19 ^^. Sorry if I overdid it. Watch out for war with the Brits again, we have an MPP with the Iroquois (I didn't expect the English to recover...).
