Rise of Rome revisited...

Great work Toasty! The english must be lambs in wolf clothing! I didn't expect for them to crumble so easily... By the way, the wonder rush was a great idea! We will get tanks very good lead!

- I am now certain we have a space race in our grasp!

Aren't you guys glad you got me. On my very first time on this thread I got into a war and then had to ditch out.:crazyeyes

I'm glad to hear that we've recovered a lot. Hopefully we can wipe this English scum from the face of the earth.:nuke:

Maybe we should establish MPP's with all but england and then go to war. THAT COULD BE FUN!!!!!

Spaceship is a definate possibility. Anyways, I'll be looking forward to my next turn :)

Gonzo you let us get 3 new cities and an edge in tech since everyone else switched to communism for the great war :D. We (or at least I am) very glad you got us into that war  .

Great job guys, and I am in agreement that we should forge ahead in science.

Lets build some artillery and infantry now, then when we have armor, we attack England with combined arms formations.

Artillery rules! They dont call it "King of Battle" for nothing.

Glad you guys came onboard! Great effort from everyone! Things have really turned around. This game was looking bleak for awhile, now we look pretty good!

If my turn comes up tonight, skip me and I'll play this weekend.

I am taking my turn in the German SG tonight, and its at a critical juncture for us. We have pushed into the Egyptian heartland, and stand on the brink of total victory, or a horrible defeat.

I'm gritting my teeth!

If you are interested, check out the German Reich thread.

Donsig - Good luck, use all your know-how and get some more science beakers for the Roman Empire!

Golden Bear: The rotation is in the first post of this thread. I've been updating it as turns are taken. Sword of Leo is next but we haven't heard from him lately...

Sword of Leo: If you still want to play let us know!

So, the war is over? I prefer peace anyway. I'll see what I can do to set you all up for the next conflict!

... lasted one round! We were forced to declare war on England due to our MPP with our buddy Hiawatha who lives across the big pond.

Having only a couple cavalry and one artillery I decided to go on the defensive. Also decided not to break our pact with the Iroquois.

Here's the file. I must go to work!:( Will try to post my summary from there.

Golden Bear or Sword of Leo: Either one of you can take your turns now. Just post when you start playing so both of you don't play at the same time!

Well, the Mrs. got called into work and we must ride together so I am still home. Gives me time to write

A Short History of Rome, 1735-1762:

1735 was a year of peace in Rome. Our cities contemplated building hospitals and such for the citizens as our engineers continued work on the Roman Railroad, which was extended to include Leicester.

The peace was short-lived and our citizen's hopes for better medical care were dashed in 1740 as Rome was once again drawn into war because of treay obligations to the Iroquois nation. The Roman people also suffered more hardship as Russian imports of spices and furs ended. Our workers did manage to include Pithom, Manchester and Cambridge to in the Roman Railroad as that project was given top priority due to the renewed war. We lost a longbowman and cavalry division in the opening round of the war as our surplus funds were spent to train our riflemen in the new infantry tactics.

Abydos fell to a massive English cavalry attack in 1745 as even more English cavalry poured across our borders. Troops were rushed to the front and all six divisions of the invading cavalry were destroyed in counter-attacks. Despite these successes massive civil unrest was known in many Roman cities.

The war widened in 1750 as Bismark attacked Hiawatha's forces and we were forced to declared war on Germany as well. There were no casualties as Elizabeth tried to outflank us by sending her cavalry into the jungles bordering Roman territory and England. The Roman navy responded by bombarding both the east and west coasts of England.

Hiawatha and Bismark make peacein 1752 but Germany refuses our envoy! 15 divisions of English cavalry invade in two formations. We rout 6, wound 3 and force one to retreat as we lose one infantry. All available troops called to the front! We hold the high ground and are fortifying our positions. The Roman Railroad is now complete as it reached Pharsalos.

Elizabeth and Catherine make peace in 1754. English cavalry re-enter the jungles and there are small losses on both sides.

Roman scientists earn their keep in 1756 by devising new research methods. Iroquois ships bombard the east coast of England. Six more English cavalry divisions destroyed in the jungles but English ships appear off our coast north of Leicester! Are cities are undefended!

By 1758 our re-training of pikemen is complete and some troops are transferred back towards Rome. The English ship did not carry an invasion force! We have time to re-garrison our cities.

TOE is completed in Antium in 1760 and we learn atomic theory and electronics. We boost our scientific efforts. Infantry recruiting (still on volunteer basis) begins in earnest to garrison our cities. We lose and ironclad to a Man-o-war but our front lines advance.

Universal suffrage is grantedin Rome in 1762 but there is still a bit of rioting on one of our cities. Bismark is still not talking to us.

Gotta go!

Looks good, donsig. I figured that the Iroquois MPP might come back at us...

At any rate, infantry/artillery will work beautifully. The best defenders in the English asernal are only riflemen and I saw more musketmen and pikemen than anything else.

I vote no peace this time. We will either destroy the English or cripple them.

I agree with Toasty - no mercy for the English. I would cancel the MPP after those 20 turns are up. We must be careful though and watch for an amphibious assault. I did sink a man-o-war and galley off our east coast. And that was at a time our non-front-line cities were defended by only Hadrian. There's another man-o-war north of Leicester. Haven't seen any other ships but you never know. We have to finish re-garrisoning our cities as I only started that process.

I made the line of infantry to prevent English cavalry from getting behind the lines and destroying our railroads. It also bought me time to build some artillery. I killed off alot of their cavalry in the jungles and started advancing the line. I figure we can bombard Exeter and Gloucester(?) soon and either occupy those cities or raze them. Abydos and beyond should also fall if we keep up a steady methodical advance.

I think we can prosecute this war as a republic, keep our science rate decent and even build a city improvement here or there.

i concur. This english scum(I speak of the game's english, not the English people that are in the real world) deserves to die. We should keep going until at least 3 cities are offered for peace. When that happens, we get those cities, reinforce, and backstab them again. This will prove to be England's undoing!!!!! P.S. Tonight is busy so I may not get to my turn when it comes around. I want you to skip me if 2 hours pass before I download the game for my turn and I don't notify you guys.

We should be able to topple England or at the very least cripple them. If we can take them, our victory is assured. If not, well, then that day's not our day. But our day will come, and the day will come when the English are no more ^^.

I'd be more than happy to play again :D. I hope my advance proved my somewhat mediocre capabilities as a general . The English will crumble beneath our infantry because their sience rate is crap under Communism and they'll be getting infantry after we've gotten tanks.

England should be a piece of cake if we use our infantry/artillery strategy en masse. The only thing that could happen should they get infantry soon, but that will only slow it down. The Communists can't stand up to such superior tech .

Well, whoever is up next, no mercy campaign. Seems pretty much unanimous. The English will be squashed like slugs under the boots of our men :king:.

We absolutely must get rid of the English and take the entire continent for ourselves. Now is our best chance to do so.

Otherwise, the English will forever be a thorn in our side and will continually be a threat when we contemplate a war or got drawn into one with another power. ;)

Ha! I love it! Good one, donsig!

Hadrian's wall indeed!

I will be finished with the German game in the morning. I cant wait to slap around the English! :hammer:

Glad to see the Republic still reigns! I love a strong science rate!

Any strategic goals? Taking over the continent sounds good KD.

Are we going to capture all the English cities and assimilate them? The ones near Corinth will still have decent production due to the Forbidden Palace. London has some good wonders in it. I forgot where the other ones are. I think Hastings has one or two.

Lets all agree on a main strategy, and work together. I will follow the will of the majority.

EDIT: Let me know when I should take my turn, we had to skip Leo last time too, if I remember correctly.

I agree with Joe. We need to pick a strategy and stick to it before wading in and getting slaughtered. Post some thoughts here guys before I play my turns.

:)

I wouldn't mind trying to launch a space ship. Haven't done that yet in any of my games. I wouldn't be oppossed to a UN victory either. If one of these don't work out we can always fall back on killing everyone!;)

My turns had a WWI feel to them with the line of infantry. Only there's not much on the other side of no man's land! Still it's tricky. Things were fine when the line was in our territory: we could move at will instantly due to our railroads while the English cavalry was mired in the jungles. Once we enter England we give that advantage to them.

I think we must have cities covering the entire continent or else the civs on the other continent will begin to colonize it. I'm not sure whether we should keep all the English cities, raze them and build our own or a little of both.

Note: We haven't heard from Sword of Leo so I think we should skip him again.

We cant do the UN diplomacy victory because we have broken too many treaties. We would lose the vote. I myself was guilty of one of those treaty violations. If we become so powerfull that no one would dare vote against us, then maybe we could go for it.

Spaceship is OK, but a long, long way off.

Lets take over the continent, and see what happens.

Golden Bear, lets kick up some serious science beakers and get tanks! Woo-hoo!

donsig, a battle group of infantry, artillery and cavalry could be formed to go north of the static infantry and start capturing cities. Then "Hadrian's Wall" can slowly move up into new territory. We'll need some extra infantry to put in the captured cities.

We'll probably capture some workers too, which is always nice.

Lets kick some English @$$!

Bear, you better take your turn or I'll be the one commanding the Hadrian line :D.

I really want to see how this turns out, being my first succession game. Hurry up, wontcha?

Toasty, it's Hadrian's Wall , not line. ;)

And I'm up after Golden Bear, not you.:p Youre turning into another donsig.

It's OK, I'm just making a joke. I am exited too. Glad we kept this game going after all, its turned out pretty cool.

Some usefull information:

I went back and re-read the whole thread (both actually), and it jarred my memory a little too.

*London has the Pyramids, Hanging Gardens and the Sistine Chapel. A good reason to capture it someday.

*Nottingham has Adam Smith's, and deffinately should be captured!

They have the Lighthouse somewhere too, but its expired anyway so who cares.

If we are to conquer all of England, and keep most of the cities, fine. But dont raze Nottingham or London, by any means!
