Rise of the Daimyo

Daimyo Cyc clears the last of the bad guys out of the mountains above the Sendai Bay. Well, at least they thought they were bad...

The Warrior Daimyo rests at the foothills of a prior Barbarian battle on his way back to the Capital. He smells the sweet scent of the local plants there. He cuts a few to take back and burn in the evening fire. A reminder of battles won and his empire expanding. They will make his coat smell better, too.

Oh, Xakzen...

Recently I have revied Loulong's thread about PBEM etiquette again in order to make sure I don't violate any of the accepted rules amoung you. (In ROJ I had omitted to anounce the completion of a Great Wonder, which apparently is an unspoken rule amoung the PBEM community, and Blaze called my attention to that.) I had read it more than half a year ago, when I started playing PBEM, but since then had already forgotten much of it...

While reading "akot's rules" I noticed a lot of points, which appeared a bit "unnatural" to me, meaning: he listed quite a few "exploits", which I don't consider "exploits", but rather "valid strategies". I guess this is because I'm so used to playing under the "GOTM rules", that these rules have become my seond nature and I don't even realize it consciously any more when applying them. Other people may have the same problem, for example Calis is a very active HOF player, so for him the "HOF rules" may be natural. Therefore I decided to highlight a few of those akot's rules here, which I think may become significant for this particular game. Perhaps we can agree on whether we want to ban or allow them for this game. (All of them are allowed under GOTM and HOF rules.)

  • 3.2 - Hitting F1/back-forward to change production
  • 3.5 - Chaining naval transports to quickly move land units across water
  • 3.8 - Staying at war to upkeep War Weariness but not actual fighting
  • Palace Jump
...
Or do we want to keep the "sneak attack" procedure? I'm ok with both ways.

  • 3.2 -Clearly cheating, I'd vote no
  • 3.5 - Have done this many times, in my view it makes up for the lack of realism in the game's treatment of modern naval capabilities. Even sailing ships can sail completely around the world in less than a year, but take 50+ years in Civ3.
  • 3.8 - War weariness goes both ways, if you can't stand the heat.
  • Palace Jump? Not sure what this is?

I'm fine with either approach to the DoW, but to adopt it now would seem rather unfair to Blaze. In fact I've already been playing conservatively with my daimyo since that unfortunate incident.

As far as SoD they're not really my strategy, but I'm okay with them since they are part of Civ3. CivIV did a good job making them more vulnerable with the siege weapons.

I haven't played this scenario enough to have an option on Yambushi's, but the one time I played the AI, they are a none issue since the AI is so stupid. I'd agree with the one per town rule if that is the general consensus.

  • Palace Jump? Not sure what this is?

You simply disband your capital and then (if you made the right preparations) the palace jumps into a better suited city. In Age Of Discovery we prohibited that, because it is clearly an unfair exploit in that scenario: instead of sailing the treasure units 10-15 turns over sea, you can just produce them right in your capital and in the bordering towns, if you jump your palace into the New World... :D

In Sengoku, however, I think it does not constitute an exploit, because it just doesn't give that much of a benefit. In fact it may not pay off for most of the clans.

I'm asking this question though, because in this particular game it could become a factor: the early death of the Miyoshi Clan "freed up" one of the best starting positions available. And it's still early enough in the game that someone with a lousy start position might streamline his strategy towards an early relocation of his capital.

Come on guys. If you remember to post yer gps, we won't have to baby-walk Hawk through his save playing. ;)

Well the chaos is over, I'm no longer living in the crazy house, I moved out last thursday. Now its a new kind of chaos but a better type sadly enough

Ok, got it and played it last night. But sorry guys, I just tried to send it from the office this morning, and found that the USB stick on which I saved it, has apparently broken down. Will send it in the evening, when I get back home.

:wallbash:
Finally got this out. Hope you're still up, Calis.

Have met the Date Ashigaru and offer your Daimyo the knowledge of Mysticism. Peace brotha.

So much for your rep, Calis. You have been talking peace and trading techs all game in emails, even here on the boards. Now you enter my lands with a warrior. Remove him now or die.
