Road to War - Historical

1.07 is the last official version.

Even today, I enjoying playing.

Looking to make some minor changes for 1.08.

1: Stopping the culture expansion of the British and Canadian Dieppe/D-Day landings with a couple of coast squares.
2: Giving British Commonwealth, Canadian Infantry, US Infantry and Marines unrestricted access to sea tiles (not ocean), to all them to make amphibious landings to harass the German defenders.
3: Commandos and Ranger and Paratroop forces to have invisibility to cause more harassment to the enemies.
4: Researching the history of Iraq a bit more, I have decided to make on Mozul the location of the Iraqi AXIS rebellion (as Hungarian forces) and the rest of Iraq will be made aligned with Allies (as Scandinavian forces)
5: Reset of combat values for Land Units to be more aligned with what their composition is.
6: Additional Generals and units added to the game
7: Commonwealth Infantry Divs and Commonwealth Corps to be built in Kuwait, to reflect the transport of these units from India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

I'll scan for more changes as well.

Testing is going great. I have created several starting files for both the Single-Player and Hot-Seat for the German player.

There will be a version 1.09 ... which will likely be my last European Campaign.

It will mainly consist of unit naming refinement and additional units missed from the earlier releases, e.g. British Brigades.

:D Hi. Does this mean you will work in the Pacific next? :) Also have you thought about reworking the mod graphics? Not that I really mind it, but it would be nice to see more country specific units besides the main players of WW2 or at least see those in a nicer looks, so goes for terrain and buildings. A lot of people have a made a tons of new assets since BTS was released, I think they would contribute to a better experience (mainly because some look very dated nowadays, like some artillery).

I'm surprised to hear you enjoy a lot playing your own mod, I thought most modders didn't! Very stupid I know:lol: If anything else I could say, I love how your scenarios are always full of cities and units, it's chaotic at first but eventually turns into a very fun and immersive experience.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have nearly finished 1.09. The changes have been comprehensive and extensive, with many units (there are nearly 6,000), having had some kind of changes. The biggest being a massive reduction in starting promotions. The BLITZ promotion, will now take some effort to get on units and many units will not get it all. It just seems strange that the larger units, Army Groups. Armies, Corps can do multiple attacks in just one fortnight, which seems unrealistic, so I have reduced the promotion to divisions.

I have being playing war games for over 50+ years, and this mod is my life's work to combine this interest with my computer skills, hence why I enjoying playing it, apart from also Play-testing the game thru.

As for the Pacific, my interest has always being with land combat. In addition, the AI seems to have a problem with using island hopping type combat

Excellent! can't wait for it then :) nice job! I agree with this, the idea behind Blitz and it's use on combat is very costly, although mighty effective, so it makes sense limiting it.

And it shows, this mod can be very challenging but once you get the hang it becomes a blast! Just like any other war game. My favorite aspect of this mod is how certain aspects of the nations on WW2 are emphasized.

Fair enough, the European theater as it is happens to be already an excellent campaign, although I would love a Global Assault of this but given what you say it might be better to just leave it on Europe. Thanks for your efforts Kiwitt.

What are your plans for the future after no more work is to be done in your historical mod?

I will leave you with this quote "A designer knows when he has reached perfection, not when there is nothing left, but when there is nothing to take away."
I am looking at a 1.09 release date to mark the 80 years since the end of World War II in Europe - May 8
I was thinking about playing another game, Steel Division II is on my radar now.

Playtesting 1.09 is proving great ... still need to make some minor changes to the units XML re. promotions.
