do you need to connect roads to farms , mines, ect like you needed to do in civ 3? I know some resources like corn need a roads, iron, ect. but do normal terrian improvments need them?

thanks.

yes, every land resource needs road to connect.

You only need to connect special stuff with roads to let your empire have it. Roads on other terrain without any special stuff do nothing.

umm actually not all need a road. If the resource is in a tile next to a river and your city is along the same river then you have access to the resource when you build the improvement, as long as it is within your cultural border.

A resource only needs to be connected to a trade route. (ie river, road, (after tech) coastline)

Hi,

It still provides faster unit movement, which can be critical during war-time.

Be careful witrh that. VERY careful. Building too many roads leads to easy access for the enemy. Build a single road that connects all resources and one road to the north/south/east/west border of your territory.

This way, you prevent the enemy from using your roads to move quickly accross your land as you can easily block the path to your city. But at the same time, you can still easily move your armies across your territory to all the vital spots.

i confirm that resources connected by rivers will give you the health or happyness bonus.

I thought enemies didn't get that movement bonus in your territory. I know I don't get it in theirs...

also rivers appear to behave just like roads, if a route of trade goes from city A to a river (beside it) then goes on on a road and onto a river agains which then connects to a road which ultimately connects to city B it will have a connection

also if you have a resource not directly connected by river you can build a road from the resource to the river (it doesnt matter if the road goes through neutral areas or your own borders).

i suppose this can be used quite well when you dont want enemys to use connections that you build in neutral zones (or commando units in your own area o_O)

O.o

Well, thats new to me. Granted, I never paid real attention to it, so i might be wrong. :p I still find it ******** if what you say is true. A road is a road. Whether it is in your territory or in that of your enemy. :mischief:

What about railroads, do any improvements benefit from them?
Cottages?
Lumbermills?

Or do you only need to discover technology for the benefit.

Commando promotion (after combat four) allows that unit to use enemy roads.

Railrods increase the output of lumbermills and certain other improvements. They also increase the movement of units by 10. So its not necessary to build railroads everywhere like in civ3.

You get an extra hammer of mines as well with railroad. And the enemy cannot use your infrastructure unless they get the Commando (I think) promotion, which requires Combat IV.
