Ya know what I hate about the game? The fact that the lovely terrain gets filled in over time with roads and railroads. I much prefer the classic "cities linked by roads" motif to the "continent-sized industrial complex" look of the later game. I also hate how the roads link together in ridiculous complicated patterns where they intersect. I also hate that me, the player, is responsible for implementing this. Even with the aid of automated workers it's a chore and a bore.

You can do cntrl shift n to have workers try to work on your road/rail network if you want.

What I dont' like is that railroads are no longer used today, now we use superhighways, which are no longer represented in the game.

of course we still have trains, but they are too expensive and not localized enough to transport goods anymore, which is why we use trucks and planes.

I don't know. We still use trains a lot for moving heavy goods, etc. Our company uses trains for moving non time sensitive goods. For important items it's either by tractor/trailer or plane.

I don't like the look of the new Railroads either. I'm hoping somebody comes up with a smaller, less clover leaf tile to replace them with.

I agree, Flux. I would like to have seen highways as opposed to rail, but it's a minor issue. More importantly, I think the move rate for rail should be, say, 20...30(?) as opposed to infinite.

Secondly, and MORE importantly, modern naval units should have drastically higher movement rates. It took Columbus, the Mayflower, etc how long to cross the Atlantic? A month? A carrier battle group could probably make the same trek in, what, 3-4 days maybe? Yet a Civ3 battleship can only move twice as fast, at the most, as older ships.

Modern Civ3 naval units should have movement rates somewhere around 10-12.
