What do you guys think of these 3 new wonders?
I personally like them and I especially like the idea to export music, plays, and movies.

I'm somewhere between like and ok. Music and theater is very important, and modern versions shouldn't be included. Hollywood and Broadway are both great examples (although I'm sure some will think its too Amero-centric, but removing the Hoover Dam balances that). Rock and Roll, as much as I like, is a little strange, since it isn't exactly something physical, which most wonders are (obviously cure for cancer isn't, though, but that actually seems like something that would require more state sponsered effort than Rock and Roll, which gradually developed on its own out of earlier forms of music).

rock and roll is an important evolution of music, but it's not like every evolutionary step of music is represented. nor should it be. same with broadway.

however, i think hollywood is actually a legitimate addition, as (like it or not) their products have a huge cultural influence around the world. it is definitely a significant product and culture which the USA is exporting.

but to have all three of these seems a bit redundant, in my opinion.

frankly i think these were included to help casual (read: new) players relate to the game and interact with the things they feel personally affected by. not my cup o' tea but i see why they did it.

Poll answer: Yes, I love them! because of their gameplay effects (late game new luxury/ressources)

On the other hand, I think leto's post summarizes it greatly, but I am rather indifferent on the topic: I don't really care.

Hollywood is def a good addistion. (Unfortunately?) It's huge, the Hollywood culture is exported all over the world.

The Beatles makes even less sense, imo, and, as great as they were, there is a whole lot more to Rock and Roll than John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr

If I would want to be sarcastic, I'd say that somehow they felt inferior that none of the 'real' great wonders originate from America, so they feel they need to introduce those.

Hollywood? What benefit does it give you? Easier to penetrate other cultures? Or a faster rate of reproduction given the prolific rate of marriages amongst hollywood celebs?

Well, they did get rid of the Hoover Dam, so having a broadway or hollywood replace it makes sense to me.

Well, for starters, Rock and Roll came from previous genres of music, so sometimes its difficult to draw the line of what is rock and what is something else (the Saxophone, for example, was an early intrument used that would never be used in modern rock, but reflects the roots from jazz). Like Jazz, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues, which were originated predominantly by African American groups. However, at the same time, country music inspired people like Bill Haley (who wrote "Rock Around the Clock", which is the first number 1 rock record) and Elvis Presley (Bill Haley was listed as a Country Western musician when they didn't know what to call him).

A lot of people came out at the same time as Elvis, so it isn't really fair to single out Elvis as first. It can be argued, however, that rock and roll goes back all the way to the 40s, with people like Fats Domino, who definately have a rock and roll style.

EDIT: I read a little more into it to refresh my memory. Rolling Stones magizine considers Elvis to have the first rock and roll album, so I suppose its more of a matter of opinion of who is first, rather than any kind of consensus whatsoever.

On the one hand, it's nice that they included abstract cultural exports like this. On the other hand, I wish they'd filled it out more to include more manufactured exports and cultural export.

Hollywood is marginal.

The other two are absolute rubbish, and i don't know what kind of substances the devs were on when they dreamed this up.

I like the idea of wonders creating exports. Appart from that i couldn't care if the wonder was willy wonka's factory and made purple jelly.

Rock and Roll, Hollywood, and Broadway, three American pastimes. Yet the entertainment of other countries is ignored. They do have a point though, the world is becoming more and more Americanized by the day.

The addition of Hollywood is something I don't mind having in CIV. I agree with those here that have said that Hollywood has certainly contributed to the world in terms of media.

However, Rock and Roll and Broadway? I dunno... I live in New York and I doubt the addition of Broadway. And as for Rock and Roll... well, I think that, overall, there is too much American representation in CIV, versus previous games.

I do like the addition of luxury resources that can be exported as a result of building the wonders though. :smug:
