Role Play Challenge: Alexander, Greek God of War II

No, I mean we dont have copper and horses for early deffence/rush. In my game(yes this game) was too late for iron. Of course I know the iron situation, but I will write in spoliler, so you can read if you want.

Spoiler :
Yes we do have iron in the BFC

Archers and wall's can hold out Immortals...

I did so in my game...NO spoiler, I got attacked before I teched bronzewoking even, I stole a worker...I couldn't resist.

Cyrus founding Jewdaism and me being a buddist didn't help, I swtiched to Jewdaism, but still war, went back to buddism as 3/4 cities had it.

But archers with City Garrison 1, behind walls, can hold out against Immortals..I had a Ohhh..70% sucess rate, but swords..only 35%..So balances out..lol

Defence is what you really need, archers/ Tech for metals/ Longbows if no metals..

No spoiler, just my opinion.......P.S. I actually do know..but that's the path your faced with, depending on resources..

I still say hook up Ele's, if only for the +1 happyness......

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part II

Well what a round!!!!! Alexander lived up to his namesake this round, but thatay not last that long. Still alot of fun!

First of all, we teched wheel and pottery to hook the cities up and get some cottages going. After that we went stright for Iron Working, and to speed things up

ReplayAlB0000.jpg

Utilizing all the commerce tiles we can. And as we finish teching it

ReplayAlB0001.jpg

Yes we have Iron!

Very quickly I use our three workers to chop out Phalynx, swords, and spears.

And quickly move in on Cy.

ReplayAlB0002.jpg

Now we had converted to Buddhism so Isabella is friendly with us but Cy adopted Judaism.

As you can see we aretrying to capture that Persian city to free up the Jumbos

ReplayAlB0003.jpg

We then ask Isabella to join in and she agrees!!

ReplayAlB0004.jpg

And we capture the Persian city

ReplayAlB0006.jpg

We continued along pillaging resources, expecially the iron

We went arround the capital to attack Susa and capture it

ReplayAlB0008.jpg

Although later Cy recaptured it.

Finally we get a truce

ReplayAlB0009.jpg

Which did not last long

ReplayAlB0010.jpg

We moved our stack NE to a shore city that was weakly defended

ReplayAlB0011.jpg

And captured it

ReplayAlB0012.jpg

Now south of this city along the river is Cy's horse city which we very much wanted to take but did not have the manpower for. So we accepted a peace deal mostly because Isabella took peace also.

I saved here, the map

ReplayAlB0013.jpg

OK we have 4 cities now, but Cy is very well deveopled and has alot of land. We also have noy gotten a single GG yet while Cy has several between us and Isabella.

And finally the power graph numbers. We are doing fair here. Also our economy is terrible but have 6 turns for writing then we can chop out some libraries. We are also doing decently in happiness as we have religion and Jumbos.

So I am open for any ideas! Remember, I am a Monarch player who loses most of the time on Emperor (the level of this game) so I make no promises.

Damn that Phalanx icon! My first thought was "Just swords and spears, no axes, what are you doing, mad?"

Good job so far. Chop or whip out the monument in Gordium so you get the fish tile soon. Spam cottages around Pasargarde and Sparta. Rebuild your army and try to get Persepolis (great production city from the looks of it) and Susa. With those cottages running, you should be able to handle that much economically, and it should cripple Cyrus enough that he won't become too difficult to fully annihilate later. Declare war again if Isabella asks you to, to suck up to her, you don't actually have to go on the offense until your army is strong enough again. Defense shouldn't be too difficult with her distracting him.

Good round! Don't despair too much about the economy right now, on Emporer I find the cash drop much bigger at the 6-7 city mark but it recovers easily once those cities get going. Your GNP will go up bigtime once you get a few libraries up and running with a pair of scientists in every city.

Continue the war with CY asap, if only to make sure to take Susa back, and Persepolis with it's iron out of his hands making the 'wipe him off the face of the earth' phase easier. It'll push your gold economy right to the edge but it'll pay off in the short by relieving a large source of cultural pressure of those cities you captured. It will also be great for the long term since it's a pretty nice hammer/cottage location. It might be worth moving the palace there for bureaucracy

BTW. If you do decide to move the palace the city should be renamed Alexendria!

Damn that Phalanx icon! My first thought was "Just swords and spears, no axes, what are you doing, mad?"

I thought exactly the same thing

I think things are looking alot more optomistic now, glad you found iron, otherwise this would have been a very short RPC! bide you time and take Cyrus down once and for all.

I assume you will have to run the companion game with pericles on emporer too, just to be fair?

Take out Perseopolis, It will make a great city for anything you like. If Cy has settled his GG's then you will have quite a nice lil military city. Gordium will too. With the fish and wheat you can work 2 plains hills and 2 grassland hills until biology. That is a good amount of hammers for a size 6 city. You can crank out troops at a fairly nice pace.
Take Susa again and raze it for cash. Resettle the spot later for a miniGP farm from the piggies and rice.

What did you lose during the strike? Last time that happened to me I lost my best Keshicks. Which was rubbish.

I can't tell from the screens, how big is Issy? If she's large enough to hold off Cy on her own for a bit you could get her to DoW to draw some troops away from you leaving Persopolis lightly defended. Then go in take his iron and its basically bye bye Cy.

@ Meousa. Yeah they are annoying but I ampretty careful in which I use. The question is IF Issay goes after him again. I already got the free DoW on Cy from her.

@ Barbeerian (gotta love the name!) Yeah a little patience to regroup. SOme how I gotta take the capital on a walled hill. I am thinking of about 10-15 swords and just rush it in a suicide fashion. And I agree on Alexandria.

@ Groogaroo. Not sure yet with Pericles. These RPC's normally are on Monarch, so an RPC on emperor is a sever challenge for myself, this game's level was an accident. Still to be fair I probably will try Pericles at emperor but still with always peace (hey, Al did get 1 shot at always war) and a 6 city limit.

@ Civ Corpse. Yes, right. Another remimder, take Persiopolis. Top of my to do list.

@ BB. Nope, Not sorry for backstabbing the zealot lunatic.

@ Grandad 1982 (what exactly does that name mea???). I do not recall which unit I loss so let's assume it was nothing big. Not exactly sure how big Issy is but she's tops in Power numbers so I assume the lady can handle herself.

The big question is whether I can get Isabella to dogpile Cy, and probably yes. BUT it will probably require a DoW by myself first and then there is no assurance she joins.

Soory, I just realized that teh image for the powergraph numbers never made it into my post.

Basically it goes Isabelle>Cyrus>us with Cy and us closer to each other than to Isabella.

Just a reminder Mad....Take perseopolis

My name is a nickname from uni - I liked cordaroy trousers - combined with the date 1982.

Are you really a scientist? Mad or otherwise?

How about beling jumbos? You could use some scientists from your chopped libares for a quike science fix.

Get Alphabet and you can have a spy incite a revolt to make that a bit easier.

@Grandad, thanks was always curious. Yes I am a scientest although the MAD question I reserve for the wife and kids to decide (the jury is still out there). Yeah Jumbos, after teching Math/Construction/HBR before Cy does

@ XURR. Excellent idea!!! Finish writing, chop libraries, bulb alphabet.

I think you can be pretty sure Isabella and Cyrus will clash again, or at the very least that it shouldn't be too difficult to get her to declare again when you want it. It worked the first time, and she should like you more now and him even less than before because of the war (well, and he still doesn't share her religion, and you know how she thinks about those fiendish heathens).

looking good again after finding the iron and taking a chunk out of cyrus

if isabella has a powergraph advantage and a different religion she is very likely to attack

for the pericles game i'd rather see it played at monarch without always peace. the AI is rubbish at always peace, it just churns out pointless armies

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part III

HA HA HA!!!!!!!! What a grand round. We spnt most of it as you would expect the Greek god or War to do, constant war and bloodshed!!!!!

SO at first we finished teching writing, and whipped libraries in the three main cities. Once we had those we started the SE work which we certainly need!!!! We also set our main cities to producing swordsmen and a few Phalynx.

Soon we have a large force which is collecting a handsome salary so we decide to put them to work.

ReplayAlC0000.jpg

After quick work of a well fortified hill capital

ReplayAlC0001.jpg

Alexander laughed as the viscious Greek soldier ravaged the former Persian capital. A grand time all the way round. After a slight rest period Al called his soldiers to organize themselves and prepared to recapture Susa.

But first, we got our first GG which we attach to a Phalynx getting CRIII and leadership promotions. OK, I will rename him as soon as someone tells me how???

ReplayAlC0002.jpg

Our smaller stacks heads towards Susa.

ReplayAlC0003.jpg

As far as strategy in assaulting these cities, I basically attack first with my least promoted Swordmen and once the defenders are weakened move in with teh highly promoted units.

Very soon

ReplayAlC0004.jpg

It is a well placed and high resource city so I decided to keep it. I know some recommended razing it, but dammit we had it once and we shall reclaim what is rightfully ours!

Our stack is dwindling here a bit but we press on with some reserves from the Greek core cities and assault the Persian Horse city.

ReplayAlC0005.jpg

And just on th eve of conquering the city we send our general in to deal the final blow

ReplayAlC0006.jpg

Glorious!

ReplayAlC0007.jpg

One problem is that the horses are still within Cyrus cultural borders. No problem as we send what is left (after healing) southwest.

ReplayAlC0008.jpg

Note we picked up a few more reserves here, with 2 archers defending it was fast work.

ReplayAlC0009.jpg

We razed Ecbactra, we do not need cutlurla pressure from Issy.

Speaking of which wher is she. well first of all she would not join in on the festivities. Second, soon she had "We have enough on our hands" and I will assume she's goiung after Cy.

At this point I decided to see what Cy has to say.

ReplayAlC0010.jpg

Peace for 10 turns. He has 4 cities left and I believe no military resources. I saved here to cool my barbaric feelings here and decide whether to proceed with the war or peace.

Our cities

ReplayAlC0011.jpg

Power numbers. My look at Isabella go!

ReplayAlC0012.jpg

OK, what does everyone think here?

Our economy is in tatters. We have 1 turn for Math. We did get a Great Scientists which we used for an academy in Athens.

My feeiling is take peace, CY is no longer a threat to us and I am pretty sure Isabella is ready to go after him. We can redeclare later.

Teching, do we got alphabet, construction, or currency. Also remember War elephants need construction AND HBR.

Also to note, Isabella founded christianity. Also alot of GGs are being founded overseas. Good times, Good times!!!!
