Role Play Challenge, The Next generation: Yes we Can!

Pig is not possible because it is a plains tile.

Gold is not possible AFAIK because it is flat land. Gems are possible on flat land but not on plains.

Stone, marble, and Iron are possible, as is copper/horse/later resources.

You have to ask yourself which of those resources are worth -1 flood plains and rice though. Horse is good because AH is a priority anyways with cows. Iron? Probably not worth it (you'll have a 2nd border pop by then anyway). Stone is more important as a BFC resource than marble, unless you want something weird like FAST ToA...but is it worth more than what we're giving up? I'm not convinced.

I am :crazyeye: by this post. I know you have played the game, so you know it is a plains tile (it's impossible to see it at a glance) yet you do not reveal the resource. I don't know, I have a hunch to SIP.

As Minister of Change I suggest that you reform the way this discussion goes by stating that the capital will be one-off-coast only.

Seriously, though, 1S would do it for me. You'd keep the river and the burgers, but get another ressource.

You can "read the fog" and get a very good idea as to what tile type is being covered. The tile in question for instance is very clearly a flat plains without a forest.

FP is one of the easiest tiles to read in this manner as an example. You can clearly see the river continuing and whether or not the graphic for the green river bank continues as well. Forests are also easy as the graphic overlaps into the greyish fog area very readily. Flat land of the same type of the bordering tile is a bit tougher, but when you spend as much time staring at city starting spots as some people have... well you can guess with a good bit of accurracy.

In this case passing up on the rice/FP in order to gain a not sure thing resource that can appear on flat plains is to me not such a great gamble. Your best bets for settling in place would be horses or unirrigated wheat. A resounding "meh".

While we are at it picking apart where to settle, does anyone see that if I do settle 1SW I am keeping the 3 floodplains, getting rice, but possibly getting one or 2 desert tiles in the capital BFC????

I agree with you that you should settle at 1SW.

However, some say you should settle 1S. Is there something I don't know about settling on food plains?

A FP is just like a forest in that it is a um.. I guess passive tile improvement. If you settle on one it reverts to a desert tile so the city square still yields the base 2f1h1c.

So no. Nothing you are unaware of or at least can't figure out.

Mad - With that much food at size 18 or w/e instead of working desert you can hire specialists. However, what type of specialist would Obama prefer in Washington? I'm thinking regular citizens since he's a man of people!

Are you kidding! The man will definitely want as many tax-collectors, I mean merchants, as he can get!

Settling south costs a food over south-west. However, it also gains a turn and two hills. This city should be oriented towards production, which tips the decision towards 1S. The lost turn and the desert tile only serve as further pointers in this direction.

yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
something to look forward to when visiting the forums. glad ur back.

Thanks for pointing this out to me!

EDIT: why is the desert tile good?

You're welcome!
EDIT: why is the desert tile good?
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, sorry. Of course, the desert tile is bad. If you settle SW, you will have it in your BFC. If you settle south, you won't. This isn't a huge consideration. Two or three useless tiles won't affect early growth of the city - and early growth is what counts. The lost turn is not very important either. We are playing Marathon, after all, and a turn is worth a lot less at this speed. Still, both these factors also point towards settling south.

The main issue remains one food vs two hills. There is plenty of food in this city already so I'll take the hills. The capital should probably be moved later to a better cottage region.

The Obama hates england BTW. And America is one of the largest muslim nations in the world or something, so be sure to make that the state religion. You should do a lot of deficit research while you are at it.

No make him predisposed to hate the founder of Islam
Barack Hussein Obama's father and step-father were both Muslim and he grew up in a Muslim country. Hating Islam doesn't exactly seem to be something which would be in character.

But Mad doesn't have a history of going ONLY for accuracy in these in the past ;).

I forget who got DR in my version of this but I definitely remember being forced to trade for it due to the RPC rules .

I know but the average American doesn't necessarily agree if ya know wut I mean...

Actually (being British, and thus blissfully unaware of what the average American thinks) I assumed that the average American doesn't give a . .. .. .. . about religions (or atleast enough of a . .. .. .. . to hate people because of religious differences), but it's only the racist people who the media focus on.

Also, since Obama doesn't appear to hate muslims, I see no reason why the RPC version of him should either.
