Welcome friends to the next Role Play Challenge, the Next Generation which focuses on charaters other than CIVs 52 leaders.

Today, we start a tale of OBSESSION. Yes, the story of Nikola Tesla, perhaps one of science's most misunderstood and frightening characters. A name that is near and dear to my heart, the original MAD SCIENTIST. I say a tale of OBSESSION, because Nikola is obsessed in being the first in as many things as possible, first to any tech, first to free items (techs, great people), and foremost first to Space. Yes friends, Nikola wants it all, technology and Wonders, science and production. That is why friends we have come up with a grand combination for our friend.

Nikola Tesla start with a superior combination of traits, Financial and Industrious, the powerful combination of the powerful Incas. However, to better work with Tesla's superior intellect we have chosen the Korean Civilization, giving Tesla a UB with an extra 10% beaker boost, although his civilization is called Cromerica (Croatia + America)!

So let's see our game conditions

Emperor Difficulty, because friends Tesla can handle it

Epic speed, because friends marathon is too slow for a Mad Scientist but normal "interupts" our sometimes necesary war machines.

Hemispheres, because too many people disrupts Nikola's thought process.

No Tech brokering, because our OBSESSED leader does not share his findings so easily.

Unrestricted Leaders, because how else could we play Financial/Industrious as the Koreans.

Rules:

1) After alphabet Nikola MUST research only techs that are unknown. If all options are know he has a choice then. He also CANNOT trade any tech he has a monopoly on. Tech stealing via espionage is not allowed by Nikola.

2) We plan to wonderspam as much as we can in the capital while fully cottaging the remaining empire.

3) He can only run Scientist Specialists, and every Great Scientist MUST build an academy. NO BULBING. Other Great People that pop up must be settled in the wonderspammed capital.

4) War is always an option, HOWEVER, Tesla is very unforgiving and will never trade with anyone who declares war on him (after a peace treaty). In fact it turns into an Obsession to eliminate that rival by the end, and I mean ELIMINATE!

5) He MUST be the first to complete the tech tree, and it MUST be done before he lands the Space Ship.

For flavor, since Nikola was Obsessive/Compulsive, we should try to fixate on the number three is possible. I will see how this aspect plays out.

Now, onto our leader

And the start

A good and bad start for wonderspamming. Not much food, but a landlocked city with plenty of choppable Forrests.

So friends, how do we begin this tale of our OBSESSED Tesla?

All these research rules make me think tesla will enjoy building the internet. I think your photo is the first time I've actually seen the actual man, any more when I think of Tesla the picture that first pops into my mind is David Bowie playing him in The Prestige

what happens if you pop more scientists than you have cities to build academies ? Settle or delete or what ? You could use one for the first GA, but since you are settling all other Gpersons, you will not get a 2nd GA that way.

Also, can the GG and GSpy build their special buildings ? Or settle all of them too ?

Hang onto them, capture a city, academy.

At least you'd get culture then .

Sounds like a fun set of rules there, might give it a go. I do love me some wonderspamming even when its not the most efficient strategy :)

Yes what TMIT said, hang onto Great Scientists for future academies (trust me I will have enough cities).

Both GGs and GSpys get settled.

You should turn on that option which makes it so that you have to kill all units before the civilization is dead. That would make the game... trickier.

Also, why not just settle the GS who're unable to build academies?

Ahhh....Nikola Tesla, a true genius! :worship: Subscribed. :)

So if Tesla is beaten to a tech he is currently researching does he have to change his mind? Want to make sure I shadow this one with all the rules firmly in place!

That's a bit unproductive for our leader, he was no fool. Yes, you can finish the tech if someone beats him to it.

Huh? Vladimir Lenin has been chosen to rule? So better end the RPC here, as you aren't playing it. CIV decided to put someone else in charge for a change.

*paranoid blinker*

Oh great mad one!

I would settle in place :) Not enough production if settling 1e, or so I guess.

What's the deal with only one resource there? How many more should we expect to be hidden, and what could they be? Of the eight hidden tiles, it looks like at least five and maybe seven of them are wooded, which would mean that you might have a bunch of calendar resources, right? I think I'd be hoping that one of the "might not be wooded" tiles ends up being corn or wheat. If not, I think you'll need to use all those forests to help produce workers and settlers and not so much for wonders.

Nikola Tesla: The Beginning!

The Tale of OBSESSION begins......

Nikola Tesla looks across the land his people have. What people you ask, a smattering of all types and personal beliefs. But that does not concern him, he cares only about what each of his people offers him in ability.

"But what shall we call ourselves", the people ask. "But how shall we name our cities?" a frightened aged woman asks. Nikola realizes he must do something here.

"People, we are Slavic and shall name ourselves accordingly." and while Nikola knows this is not true, it is good enough as the people seam relieved and satisfied, ready to work and to study.

GOOD, thinks Tesla. Now I can move onto important matters.

Tesla sends his warrior north to explore and decides to settle in place

Not much of a city he thinks but it may just suffice for our needs. Only cows and spices, but there are 2 floodplains. Farmed they are 4 food, with Biology 5 food. With so much forrests we can make good use for this land.

The warrior begins moving in a circular pattern, collecting 220 gold for the Cromerica treasury. The warrior also comes across

Tokugawa of Khmer, an odd combination. He seams unfriendly and aloof which suits Tesla fine. More time for research, less wasted on idle chit chat.

Tesla begins his research

Agriculture/Animal Husbandry/Bronze Working/Wheel/Pottery/Masonry/Hunting/Archery

In Belgrade the build order starts

worker/warrior/warrior/warrior/settler.... Then begins the Great Works.

As Tokugawa came from the SW we sent our warrior off in that direction and soon locate Khmer.

Close but some poor lands between us. Perhaps we can leverage this to our advantage.

After finishing Animal Husbandry we look around for any horses

To our east, far enough away from Tokugawa to lose them. Very good, that leaves us a chance to send our next settler due east towards the Khmerian.

Very soon, a flash of brilliance in Cromerica occurs

Tesla is happy and proud of his people!

And as we explore more to the west we find.

Another source of horse. closer to Tokugawa and along a river. Excellent!

Infact we explored alot of the south and just at Bronze Working

A very nice looking area down there. Coastal/copper/stone/sheep/river. Yes, but can get settle it quick enough and more importantly get a reliable trade road.

But first things first, Tesla decides to lock up the horse resource first with Sarajevo

This effectively blocks Toku from the north by land with one border pop, and blocks him by sea with 2 border pops. Not the best rivered city as there are no food resources and few grasslands, but enough of a strategic city and of valuable use if destined to be low in population.

We meet the next leader

Wang Kong of India! Very interesting, competition for our Seowon UB! As with Tokugawa he appears Aloof which suits us just fine.

We manage to build our first wonder in Belgrade

After finishing archery, which we could use to defend against any Khmerian agression, we saved deciding what to research next.

I think writing next, followed by Iron Working as there was an unforrested hill and grassland in teh capital BFC thus I am assuming we will have iron readily available (at least hope).

And as you saw we managed to finish

Our second wonder! So barbs are not a concern, but Khmerian military is.

I started dot-mapping a bit to the north

And looks like plenty of good cottaging land there.

But I think we need to expand south very soon and cut off Toku a bit more. 2 settlers next, for the copper and a bridge city. Neither would be a perfect city, but enough to lock up alot of land.

A look at the entire continent

That is alot of good land if we can block it off.

Our cities

Belgrade

I think a few settlers and excourts here, then a big rush for the pyramids (36 turns) which I think Nikola Tesla REALLY wants!

Sarajevo

Is pretty decent. A few farms to grow the population are in order and I think this city builds all of the Military for a bit.

And just a reminder about what rules/civilizations we are dealing with

So the plan for the next segment

1) Settled due south to block off Tokugawa

2) Pyramids.

3) tech, writing/IW/fishing/sailing. Toku won't open border but Wang will and he's not on our continent unless he is behind Toku.

4) Military. At emperor level I am not about to be out military produced and vulnerable here.
