Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII (PS2)

Officers like that don't hang on to their weopans for long though. Usually they will got caught and their weopans seized by opposing lieges. In the early scenarios, you can buy the Swords of Light or Heaven (+10 War  ) for 2000 gold, fr the merchant. ;) Somehow they'll only be set for Cao Cao in later scenarios.

Sometimes when you're patrolling, you can find items too. Once got Way of Piece this way (+10 or 8 intel and Mystic skill :)).

Alright KD. I'm pissed. My name would not show up on the Hero Fame list for glory acquired in battle no matter what I did. What's up with that? I should have been number one easy and I was not on the list at all!?

Also, I was LuBu in the second stage, Dong Zhuo's Tyranny, and all the little 'cutscenes' went on for me to meet the chicky and same for Dong Zhuo, then I did not kill him? He just kept going like the 'cutscenes' never happened until he got himself caught in a battle and was executed... I wanted to kill him dammit. What's up with that?

Easy. Other people are more famous than you. So you need to gain even more fame than them, if you want to make it to the list.

And to gain fame - the fastest most consistent way is to do domestic commands. That's why you can see the top people are usually more of prefects and admin-types than generals. Fr my judgement, more fame can be gathered doing city commands than going to war. ;)

Also rulers when they do every other little thing, they seem to get a whole lot of fame for it. That's why you have all those lieges in the top list. When I was playing a ruler, was administrating all the time, recruiting ppl, moving them around, improving my own city, rewarding ppl. In no time, I shot to the top. ;)

I didn't manage to fight much in battles, except for directing others (as ruler you can order your prefects to attk and you can command in the field :)).

Ahh... So if I understand you correctly, my glory could be 35,ooo from battle which would put me higher than anyone else's glory from battle, but if I don't have a high enough level of deeds/fame, it won't matter? Hmm... I did better with my created character.

I haven't played as a liege yet. Do I have to pull the trigger on all expansion/battles? I guess I will have to try it. I always start as rogue and highest I can get is Prefect or Warlord depending...

No, glory fr battle will be translated into fame/deeds (not sure what's the difference). But the translation factor is smallish; maybe like 1000 for 100 fame or such. But if you continuosly fight and win, may be significant. Stick to domestics if you want a continual reliable supply of fame. ;)

You can start as liege using a created officer as well. Better this way, since you can pick 9 other created officers to serve as your first officers. ;)

I don't know what triggers you're implying but you can pick any scenario and choose any ruler. The game's very open-ended. You can even pick a created officer and claim an empty city and become ruler. ;) I did that to gather lots of gold before resigning and enlisting with another ruler.

Liege seems awfully daunting. I have to bond with ronins and hire them myself? Lack of officers is a problem. Can't do much of anything but write letters, make visits, and hire. Someone invades me and 4 of my officers become his. Back to hiring? Ach!

Get a warlord with intel 100 and when you personnel-recruit, he'll always give accurate advice. Then try to personnel-recruit with every officer you have - sometimes even the lousiest officer you have can recruit a good one for you. ;) You need to write a letter first or have a bond of at least 1 with the guy you want to recruit first though.

The way I do it - write one letter to all the potential officers I want to recruit all over the land. When wars break out, spy on the attacked city to see loyalty stats. Then try to personnel-recruit those with low loyalty (those who went over to serve the victor). 'Cause I'll always have accurate advice fr warlord, so every attempt I try will be successful. No need to do bonding. ;)

And, like I said, if you start out as a new created ruler, you can picked 9 created officers to serve you. That's a very good starting point and you can start your recruiting phase fr there. ;)

KD! I played a bit as a liege and I got it now. Even as Warlord you can do the hiring yourself and get your own advice... :goodjob: I'm still tryin to get all the site and items... Oy vey. Messed around a little with 8 characters at once, but that took forever. Well, seemed like it. :king:

My method - played as created officer in last scenario, served Cao something, then rebelled. With my one officer army (20k troops 'cause I'm a liege) and based inland, began a one-man sweep across China. :D They never counter-attked, even those territories I had left vacant behind me 'cause they had no officers. Some provinces don't even have a prefect. And I was using a really really average char (testing you see)! :D

In no time at all, got all the items but the last 4 I got randomly in other games (you know the dragon, phoenix etc that you can get after winning duels with tigers). ;)

I finished up the sites and items over the weekend. Majority of items I got from shops and war. I didn't realize at first but as a liege, waging battles, I checked to reward and had a list of stuff. Duh. :D And then I got a list of the where the sites are at gamefaqs and just started visiting like a mofo. As for the 4 creatures, maybe I cheated a little. :satan: I created the character Crazy Horse who comes with Duel and Bless and all I did was make visits to people with Duel. So all the items and sites do help a bit when making a character.

I hate working for a liege that doesn't use me wisely. And the Chi Bi thing you mentioned previously... Heh, I played as Guo Jia in a game for Cao Cao, and one turn I just up and died! Yah the guy did die, but I had no warning! So I got a choice to continue the game as Dian Wei or to not continue at all. I started a new game. :p I'm readin the book/books now. Good stuff. Didja know Outlaws of the Marsh has some small connection to Suikoden?

Suikoden is simply the Japanese rendition of 'shui hu zhuan', the Chinese title of the Outlaws of the Marsh epic. ;)

Had read that in my school days I think. Long time ago, maybe time for a refresher.

According to story, Guo Jia died young I think and didn't manage to help Cao Cao much.

Yah, 28 I think. Northern climate was hard on him and he never recovered.

Lot of people dyin from "spewing of blood"... What the hell is that? Starts as a cough, gets worse, eventually there is blood, gets worse, death comes. I forget the name but I'm thinkin maybe that is what it is but they never say it in the book. Compression, Congestion, Compaction... I don't remember...

Consumption! :D Essentially tuberculosis. But I thought Chinese people had a vaccine before anyone else did. Apparently not that far back eh? 'Course, they never use that word or TB...

I don't know about the vaccine part - even if there is, I doubt they can afford to vaccinate everybody. The Chinese are just as subjected to diseases as any other peoples, more so 'cause of the high population density of the Chinese core territories.

Must have been Discovery Channel, and this was what, 1700's or 1800's? Black plague was over in America killin everybody and their mother, but the Chinese people had a vaccine already and it did not affect them. Well, not like America. People were lockin each other in their houses, burnin bodies in pits, epidemic stuff. Maybe they had local docs workin OT back then? :crazyeye: Off topic we are. :p

Interesting.... But personally never heard of such a thing.

Maybe it's simply traditional Chinese medicine though. T'is making a comeback nowadays as well. Here, the govt is beginning to require the Chinese sinsehs (Chinese medical practitioners) to go thru coursework and certifications and being members of a body and all that - like the normal doctors.

Off topic we still are.... :p OK, enough on the intricacies of traditional Chinese medical practise...

Hey that's the damn book online! :) I saw a real nice set, it was 5 hardbacks and it was a Chinese/English version from the Chinese Library of Classics I think? Really nice, but it was like $130USD... And I already bought the Moss Roberts paperbacks for $45...

The best part about that site is they have commentaries or explanation points on specific points/lines of the novel. :) But I don't like reading on the screen....

Moss Roberts translation has like 20-30 pages of notes in each volume, so each chapter gets added info/historical background. And the site mentioned all the maps already. I'm with ya on reading the screen. I need printed books. I read enough as it is between here and work on screen.
