RomeoRedux Altruistic Americans (Sid)

In my experience Iwo is very lightly defended, like ~ 1 flak or so. We might not even need to bombard it, and a free airbase that close to the mainland would be quite nice.

Pre-flight – Dec 1943 – I move the North Pacific sub screen westward about three tiles. Iwo is in fact defended by an MG Battalion.

Our cities are nicely managed. I think we should invade the Japanese islands on the north end of Honshu at Akita. Iwo Jima will be a critical bomber base.

I wake up our carrier based bomber off Saipan and bombard Iwo Jima. Two zeros are destroyed and the MGB defending is redlined.

IBT – A IJN fleet sails south of Manila. Two marines are produced.

Jan 1944 - @ Guam – We lose a bomber to flak, but kill the five defenders and capture the island.

@ Iwo Jima – John Wayne (playing a marine) dies once again, but his gallantry opens the door to Mount Surabachi and our marines prevail, capturing one artillery piece and destroying three zeros.

I start moving our fleet northward towards Akita.

IBT – A Wildcat based out of Manila shoots down a Japanese bomber. The IJN Fleet sails past Puerto Princess into the Coral Sea. The Commonwealth responds by sending most of its fleet to the south. We build a Wildcat, four marines and an airport.

Feb 1944 – We have a lot of Marines airlifting into Iwo Jima, but no transportation. I rush a transport there for 276G. Start bombarding Akita.

IBT – Nada. We produce a transport, A riot at Puerto Princess, and two marines.

March 1944 – We land seven marines, a GI, and an artillery piece north of Akita, taking out an undefended radar tower. Our bombers isolate the northern portion of Honshu. A Wildcat shoots down a Zero.

After Action Report – I have been airfifting marines into Iwo Jima. Next player may want to rush a few more transports. The Japanese left their backdoor open. Hopefully, there are enough troops to take advantage of their gaff.

If the landing survives, I doubt I will see this back.

Nice work. Grahamaiam is up. I would take Akita then amphib assualt to Sapporo, then dance all around the Island while avoiding Tokyo. Sid A.I. has probably close to 15 defenders in the capitol, (They usually do whenever I try it). OR we can be brave and just storm in the front door, I guess that is a team call.

Let's work our way down the island. Once we get past Toyko, they will collapse. Maybe even consider a landing on the southern end of Honshu. The AI doesn't hand two fronts well.

Preflight check: 28275pts vs Japan’s 33400. Airlift a GI from the Phillipines to Honolulu so we can fortify on that town and at least get points for that VP location.

IBT: Puerto Princess harbor -> transport; Honolulu transport -> bomber; Hilo Marine -> Marine; Seattle Marine -> Marine; Portland Marine -> Marine; San Fran marine -> marine; Reno Marine -> Marine

T1: April, 1944AD Attack on Akita: lose 2 bombers and 1 wildcat, killing 2 fighters, 1 NI, 1 MG battalion, 1 flak, and 1 guerilla.
I decide to attack Sapporo without air support: vet Marine kills NI (3/4); vet Marine kills a flak and we take the metro, destroying a bomber and gaining 27g.
Also decide to attack Osaka: Bring about 7 attack ships over and only damage destroyers, transports, and a fight in the town. Well, 8 marines should do the trick: vet Marine takes 1hp of MG Battalion and dies; vet Marine dies without scratching it; vet Marine dies vs same MG (2/5); vet Marine finally kills it (2/4); vet Marine dies to NI (3/4); vet Marine dies without scratching NI (3/4); vet Marine kills NI (2/4); vet Marine kills flak and we take the city + 2 workers

VP’s: us = 34,940; Japan = 34575 (+1175)

IBT: shot down 2 bombers over the Phillipine’s; Akita riots due to crowd suppression; Aparri transport -> transport; Manila F4F; F4F; Midway bomber -> bomber; Seattle flak ( forgot to change after a short rush) -> marine; San Fran Marine -> Marine; LA Marine -> Marine; San Diego bomber -> bomber

T2: May, 1944AD Attack on Nagasaki: bomber shot down; bomber shot down; bomber shot down; enough of that, bombard with battleships; vet Marine kills 2/4 MG Battalion (4/4); elite Marine kills flak (3/5); elite Marine kills conscript NI; vet Marine kills conscript NI; ¾ marine kills reg flak flawlessly and we take the city + 20g
Attack on Komi: vet Marine redlines but kills MG Battalion; vet Marine kills vet flak and we destroy 1 Zero, a BB, and a CA
Attack Saishu: Marine dies to MG Battalion (2/4); Marine kills MG Battalion; Marine kills flak and we take the town, destroying 2 Zero’s.
Bahh, now we have 40,060 VP’s! And not enough Marines to take Tokyo :(

IBT: Shot down 2 bombers over the Phillipine’s; Osaka riots; Portland Marine -> Marine; San Fran Marine -> Marine; Reno Marine->Marine;

Attached is the save just before the win. This is the second time we've won at this scenario without really doing any research. well, at least we got to play around with Marines this time.

So the next time we play as Japan?

Nice game you guys. Looks like we have this one scoped from the Allied side.

So what's the next step, romeo?

Good question Bede. I would really like to try Sid Domination with Japan. I do not know if it is possible, but would sure like to try it.
If you are interested, please let me know and I will try to get the game set up after the New Year. If we can get 2 teams of 4 we can have land grab competitions, seeing which team gets the most land.
Just some ideas, let me know what you think.

Neat. Won a year ahead of schedule, too.

Guess I expected a Sid game, even a scenario, to be a bit, well, harder. Or maybe good teammates really does make a difference.

I'd like to play the Sid/Japan/Domination game, and would really like to try Sengoku, though from the RBCiv SG thread there seemed to be some issues with it, and a playable scenario never really got resolved out of them. *shrug*

Sengoku is one of the games that I would like to get an SG started on. I was thinking about even a Sid try. I have easily won on Demi-god, and a great challenge would be really awesome. However that would have to wait untill probably after Valentines day.

Wow, that was quicker than I thought as well. I might be up for the Sid/Japan option, but it will depend on my schedule once we get to January. As for Sengoku, the biggest problems are the pillaging Yamabushi, and the invisible Ninja. The Yamabushi can be fixed, the pillage option can be removed in the editor. Ninjas would take more work, and I don't have a lot of experience with that scenario (just started a PBEM, not very far into it).

lurker's comment: if you need an idiot for the B team, let me know. [/delurk}

I have tested the playability of Sid Domination, and found it completely lacking. I played as the Japanese, and with concentrating only on land grabbing I only got to 42% area. I owned all of asia, most of the Dutch and Hawaii, along with many Commonwealth Isles. I do not beleive that on any level domination is possible with the Japs.
I am thinking of a deity level sengoku game starting in the next couple of weeks. There was some interest here, so players of this game get first crack at a roster spot.

Let us know when you want to do the Sengoku game. I'm in.

Too bad about the Japan game, but I'm certainly up for Sengoku.
