Just a weather ballons. The alien autopies were faked (Of course it was; it was Fox. They only make good comedy, and little else of value.). It only alive now because the town of Roswell makes a forture out it, as well authers of books about the subject. Many UFO believers themselves have said it was not real.

I've done a lot of 'researching' on this, and I can confidently say (as an extreme skeptic) that it's not a weather balloon. For starters, why cover up a weather balloon? If it was a balloon to spy on nuclear testing - why cover that up? It's not like they were impeding Soviet air space...and it wasn't exactly a technological marvel.
I'm convinced that it was either aliens (there was plenty of proof of visitation long before the 'wheel' let alone the 40's), or top-secret aircraft (either the nuclear space-bomber [used in the 40's] or an early stealth prototype [project started in 40's]).
