I saw on someone's sig 'I love Rugby League.' I am a Union man myself, which bringsme to the question, what is CFC's opinion? Are there many rugby players / lovers here? If so what do you prefer? League is too rule-orientated for me, like football (I think most people here would call it 'soccer'.) Any opinions?

Roll on the next World Cup - lots of sleepless nights and too much beer.

I definitely prefer rugby union . A much more flowing game than rugby league.

The whole mindset of rugby league seems to be

1) run at the nearest opposition player 5 times
then
2) kick the ball as far down the field as possible

Any league fans care to enlighten me?

Man, I wish I knew more about rugby. It looks pretty cool and it is the grandfather of the modern NFL game, but I just can't seem to understand what in the heck they are doing when I see the game on ESPN.

Love to play rugby with friends in the park....... so much fun yet can be ever so dangerous last time i left with a cut arm a cut head and a popped out knee cap.

I like any type of rugby basically i find it alot better then football :D

I am occasionally forced to play Rugby League and it's really annoying when you get the ball and start pacing it down the field, knocking weedy little backs aside (I'm what you might call a 'large' chap) and then you are picked up on some poncy (sp?) little rule- that's what I loveabout Union; once the adrenaline starts flowing there's nothing really standing between you and the try-line.

Rugby Union - The players are all very unfit and enjoy a good pile up :p

Rugby League - The players actually try to play the game(ie running around) :)

This is a Biased opinion so it probably wont explain much...

...and im not incinuating that any of the people here are unfit, just that the Professionals are... :mischief:

Rugby Union- You are allowed to get on with things and physical strength tends to win out

Rugby League- You have to obey rather pointless rules which allow speed and 'skill' to usually win out.

Rugby Sevens (Which noone has voted for :() There are seven players ;)

Of course this is a completely fair and unbiased opinion:p :crazyeye:

I wish I could play rugby :D. Sounds like my kind of sport. However, it's not offered in my area, so I'm out of luck.

Still can't really differentiate between the types, though I thoroughly enjoy watching a good bout of rugger on TV. It is certainly a superior game to American or Canadian football.

I have a colleague who is a rugby fanatic, I'll ask him what he thinks then vote that way :D

I should pay more attention, Canada's team is actually somewhat competitive. A rarity for us outside of hockey and curling.

Rugby Union doesn't stop when the ball handler is tackled, whereas in League the play is stopped, the opposition goes back 10 metres, and play starts again. Union has 15 on each side and League has 13. Sounds like subtle variations, but they make a huge difference.

I played League as i was growing up, but decided to have a go at Union at uni thinking they were similar... not so. League is still my favourite, but in union you have to think far more.

Internationals are boring in League, Australia wins everything (kinda like cricket ;)), but in the upcoming Union World Cup, anyone of about 4 or 5 teams are a realistic chance.

Canada and the US always put up a good show. The US captain, Kevin Dalzell, would walk into any Super 12 side.

Rugby Union is a great game that deserves much more recognition in the USA.

It's sad that they miss out on it :(

Rugby League gives Rugby a bad name, it's like comparing Baseball to Rounders... or maybe that's an insult to Rounders?

I'm don't follow Rugby religiously or anything... I just follow the main international games.

I don't think I have ever seen the USA play!

I'm not a big fan of Rugby myself but if I had to choose one to watch it would definatly be Union.

I voted League, but both codes are worth watching. IMHO I find club League better than club Union and international Union better than international League.

Go Salford! (for what it's worth)
