Running old DOS programs

I recently upgraded my PC. Along withn the upgrade I paid out for WinXP home version. Unfortunately some of my favorite old DOS/Win95 games won't run. I used the compatability wizard, but even in the best I have been able to do with that, some things will only run to a point and some not at all.

In particular my favorite chess program will not come up and will not say why it wont come up.

This DOS emulator thread is just several threads below, in this same forum. I warmly invite you to have a look at it. It emulates even the SB card with it's IRQ and DMA settings...
yesterday I just played Speed Ball 2 again :) wow that was fun.
If you can't still make it run, then i only see one choice left to you: use a complete and real emulator such as VMWare or Virtual PC. But they are not free contrary to dosbox.
