S-02 Learning to Ride

I just tried now and same thing??????

Asperge,

I try again and get server offline and even tried "save target". Perhaps NA servers differ from European?? You're last one does work so thank you.

I just looked at the save. A couple of trading options are open that we should take advantage of.

Renegotiate our resource for Gold trades with Bismark, Hatty, and Saladin for additional gold. Toku is also has 7 gpt available that we should pickup. This will let us bump up the research slider another notch.

Also, we could reopen borders with Louis. I had closed them to trap his settler off our coast, but it looks like Hatty and Bismark are sending galleys with settlers through too. I guess we should let them all sail.

still don't work for me  . Flushed my DNS cache for no avail. Don't know what's happenning

EDIT : I see you have used an attachment. Thanks. Got it

Turn 0 : like mike pointed out, I renegotiate all the deals we have for +1 gold and made new ones with Louis and Toku. Seems like we have an overabundance of resources. Thanks Liz

I had a hard time finding you new cities Asperge (used F1). I like Yekaterinburg but Yakutsk ... Oh well

:hmm: We can trade for machinery and have nice windmills and watermills everywhere. Maybe not :p

Turn 1 : St Pet start a uni. York starts a worker. Seems like there is too much jungle to chop

Turn 2 : NovGorod finishes aqueduct, starts a HA. Nothingham finishes a HA, starts a uni. Glad to see Asperge didn't neglect the military. I try to keep it going. Sally Got Islam, well at least it will make it cheaper for us to research. Don't think he will trade it anytime soon
We got an ...engineer in Moscow. Don't know what odds he had but they were slim at best. He wants to lightbulb ... machinery
Any interesting wonder to go for ? Maybe Chichen Itza for the 25% defense

Honestly, I can't see what's best. Burning one engineer for Taj is only half the cost of a specialist golden age so I don't like it much. Maybe Versailles, I like Versailles and its gardens. Guess I'l let this for the group to decide. There is Notre Dame, which helps with happiness too

Turn 3 : Sally asks to stop trading with Hatty. WTH, why would he care about our realtions with our neighbours. I check F4 and Hatty has Divine right now and it is tradable. Send Sally home

London finishes heroic epic and starts a jewish temple. It is near the happy cap. It has some surplus food and will need to hire specialists soon. Since this is our production city, it can use an engineer and a priest.

Turn 4 : Rostov finishes harbor, starts a university. Notre Dame is completed by Louis IX. Whip lighthouse in Yuroslav'l. Fire some auto assigned specialists. Man, I hate those

Turn 5 : NovGorod : HA->Uni. York : worker->HA. Yuroslav'l : lighthouse->granary
Hatty changed her mind about Divine Right. I guess she's building a wonder. I check and she brags something about personal reasons ...

Turn 6 : London : jewish temple->HA. Bismarck finishes Chichen Itza

Liberalism is due in 1 turn. All AI lack paper and only Sally knows philo. Can we say that the slingshot is safe for now ?
I go for divine right. My plan is to get divine right and nationalism with the help of artists then use the slingshot to get ML which has a higher cost

Turn 7 : Hastings : lib->granary. We have Islam in Yekaterinburg.
I settle the marble city, Vladivostok.

01-MarbleCity.jpg

It will have a hard time growing. I did not use the blue circle, hope this was not smoking. Can't see us grow to the point when we use all the water tiles anyway.

I take some fresh money from Louis. The world map was a filler

02-Trade1.jpg

Turn 8 : London : HA->harbour. Islam spreads in another city. Louis is still sending his missionaries
Artist finishes divine right and we head for nationalism

Turn 9 : York : HA->Uni. Hatty is willing to pay for our knowledge of the world

03-Trade2.jpg

Turn 10 : Moscow : uni->Theatre. War is upcoming.
I burn the second artist. Nationalism is due in 1 turn. Which means, ML is due in 2 turns. Then 5-6 turns for gunpowder and cossacks will start their slaughter. Would it be Louis or Hatty ? My guess is to aim for the most advanced one to keep our cossacks competitive
BTW, warlords nerfed cossacks, they are now only 15 str.

Keep in mind that we have an engineer to burn. I vote for Versailles in former England

Sooooo, still some builder turns for ya :) -->save<-- (upload server is working now)

I guess none of the other players would have made a city like Yakutsk but it's close to the capital , grows quickly and imo can soon pay for itself and then contribute to the treasury.

I vote for Versailles in future former Egypt, which also means i prefer Hatseput to be our next victim cause Louise i backwards compared to she & Luoise is willing to help us against Hatsy. Also Versailles uses marble so it's better to wait till we got that. After Hatsy at once Louise...

Soon we must change civics > Theocraty & vassalage or free speech?

Honestly, I never looked deep into how number of cities maintenance works. It's just that I've been avoiding filler cities, for the good or for the bad, I don't know.

That woulod be risky. The Versailles part that is. Sally can steal it and we'll just be loosing money during the war with Egypt. I propose to build Versailles in england and FP in egypt. We haven't built it yet don't we ? It is not possible anyway if you never build courthouses ;)

I see it, but have been at a wedding reception all day. I think it would be best for all involved that I play tomorrow :)

Was thinking about merging GE into heroic epic city, but maybe versailles is better.

I lied, I played today instead.

IHT: Whip granary in Yakustsk.

T1 (1210 AD) - Nationalism comes in, start liberalism. Order theatres in places where we have nothing to build, as I anticipate a lot of WW soon :). Louis keeps spreading Judaism to our cities - I'll have to buy that guy a beer sometime.

T2 (1220 AD) - Liberalism arrives, and we take Military Tradition. Start research on gunpowder. In places where we have nothing to build I start a few monasteries.

T7 (1270 AD) - Gunpowder is in. Revolt to theocracy + vassalage.

T8 (1280 AD) - Anarchy . Trade paper+150G to Hatty for machinery.

T9 (1290 AD) - Order up some cossacks! I didn't pre-build them by starting HAs as this feels exploitative to me.

T10 (1300 AD) - We pop another GE! This one is heading to London to build West Point when we get a level 4 unit. I haven't done anything with the other GE yet. Trade away DR and paper to Bismark, who gives us engineering, optics, 140 gold and his map. Cancel selling spices (6GPT) to Bismark. Instead I sell him our only pigs (we have no health problems) for 8 GPT, and trade our spare spices back to him for dyes (+2 happiness with a theatre).

Cosmichail is up to build some cossacks!

Good stuff sooooo. Let's get ourselves lots of cossacks and see if we can take enough territory with them to be at or near domination. Without siege units we are going to have to take some crappy odds. To get the level 4 (and 5) units we will have to use the least experienced units as suicide units.

I agree with blid on building the Versailles sooner rather than later. The FP can go to the west later.

We should make sure Louis is in the war with us if we don't go for him first so that he doesn't stuff us up some time and close borders on us as we have to go through him to get to Hatty. Some scouting would be nice to see what we'll be up against with her.

I'm available this round to play.

Soooo

Wow that was fast and I was hoping you wouldn't play until tomorrow as I can't get to the game until Monday. Now if Kikinit wants to take my place he's more than welcome. Some RL stuff and thought the computer I was at would handle civ4 but doesn't. Will be home Monday back at my own machine and can play then.

Sooooo, did you notice we have a marble city ;) It needs still a worker to hook up the marble.

Another argument to wait with building Versailles is when Hatsy is building it sthat city is't building military. Saladin has so few city's i doubt he's building it. (i am used to swallow halve of the thing i have to say).

Next player please bring the promoted horse archers to the front and save some cash to upgrade them, let the unpromoted HA do garrison duty.

Hatheput made a city east of our land, at a place i didn't think of but in fact it's probably the best place on that island .

We also need a few caravels to protect our waters (fishing boats).

Great Engineer
Machinery
Assembly Line
Industrialism
Combustion
Metal Casting
Mining
Iron Working
Engineering
Replaceable Parts (After PP comes in we can use a GE for this one....)

OK, Kikinit is free to pick this up today if he wants. Asperge: Yep, sorry, should have sent a worker over there. After PP do we want frigates? They require astronomy and chemistry. There is a GM available from Economics too, but we will have to get guilds and banking first.

I'll get this today then. I'll use a GE on Versailles, save some money and build lots of cossacks. Hopefully the next player can be ready to go to war. I'll see if I can bribe Louis to start a war a few turns before we are ready to go so he can distract her and maybe kill a couple of her units for us.

I like the idea of getting Taj with GE. Personally never bother much with Versailles but a great moneysaver and that's what we need as warmongers.

Asperge don't hold back I always find you make good points. You're what I would call a good detail man and every good corporation needs one of those. Thanks for picking it up Kikinit as I don't want to hold up the team since we like to move along at light speed just like those cossacks.

Didn't Blid say they got nerfed in Warlords. ARGH...

Oh I agree on the caravels too since I always notice AI just loves to pillage the fish resources.

Managed to get Versailles and the Taj with our Great Engineers. Golden age was started on my last turn and we have an army of Cossacks that I think is enough to start our war.

(0)-1300AD - I start Versailles in Nottingham. That should have a bit of an impact and I send a GE over to help add 740/800 :hammers:

I must say I'm a bit surprised by the National Epic in Moscow. Surely we had a better choice for a GP farm than that. Our discussion about that must have got lost in my head somewhere. I steel a cell (farm) back from Yakutsk to allow another specialist there.

(1)-1310AD - Tokugawa comes along and cancels this deal with us as well as open borders but he left one other deal we have with him open. Not sure what's going on with him here.

Civ4ScreenShot0259.jpg

I burn the GE on Versailles in Nottingham.

(2)-1320AD - The first cossack is finished in London. With the heroic epic it'll be producing one every 2 1/2 turns.

(3)-1330AD - Versailles is done and it gives about 25gpt gain.

Civ4ScreenShot0260.jpg

(4)-1340AD - Some intel here on Giza.

Civ4ScreenShot0261.jpg

I asked Louis what he wanted to go to war with Hatty and here's his response. Bit expensive methinks.

Civ4ScreenShot0262.jpg

(5)-1350AD - I upgrade 2 level 4 horse archers to Cossacks. I can't see too many other units that are worth upgrading to be frank. And we haven't got a lot of spare units without emptying our cities anyway. With our current civics some cities are starting to rely on the garissoned units for happiness!

(6)-1360AD - We need to put Oxford somewhere. I vote for St. Pete but didn't start it during my turns. I'll toss it up for discussion first.

Here's pics of Alexandria and Thebes.

Civ4ScreenShot0263.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0264.jpg

(7)-1370AD - We hit 10 million souls. Some more pics of Hatty's cities. Abydos, Heliopolis and Byblos.

Civ4ScreenShot0265.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0266.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0267.jpg

(8)-1380AD - Yet more intel. This time, Elephantine and Memphis.

Civ4ScreenShot0268.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0269.jpg

(9)-1390AD - Printing press comes in and I go for Chemistry to get us towards steel and railroads. Actually as I write this I'm thinking we may need to veto this and aim for replaceable parts to get those lumbermills going.

I start and finish the Taj Mahal in Moscow. Finishes by the GE of course. I chose Moscow to add the great person points to the small amount that we can get from specialists.

(10)-1400AD - Taj is finished and we've got 8 turns of Golden Age.

Civ4ScreenShot0270.jpg

I boost up research in the GA by 10% to 70% and we are still +22gpt.

We have 12 cossacks primed and ready to go. We can go now I think as we'll have a number more to follow up with soon and they should have a decent advantage for a little while yet. Lets make the most out of our UU. I'm a cossack, get me outta here.

Moscow will give another GP in 4 turns. GA 18%, GS 36%, GM 36%, GE 16%. Quite a spread there.

The save. Enjoy your war. By the time it gets back to me it'll be builder turns again.
