S-02 Learning to Ride

Thanks Rowain I find that interesting and creative on the gamemakers part. So east/west poles and that is the east pole. WOW....

EDIT: Soooo half way through the MC I realized that Paper would have been a better choice. Since we want to get Liberalism. I was following consensus but in my heart I would have preferred Paper too after some thinking.

I predict he will change the library build in Hastings for workboat (and whip this), and give our national epic city some specialists.

Can't whip just yet don't have enough pop. I was thinking that but wanted to expand borders. When it came out of revolt it didn't matter what you started building everything was excessive (CH 120 turns). Once we get a mine built there it should allow quicker for WB and with bananas pop should grow quickly for whipping.

Moscow should have specialists excellent point. Lots of room to have at least two scientists. Even with out GL we are doing pretty good science wise. We need scientists for sure to burn for Education-->Liberalism since artist will only give Drama and after that Divine right (ARGH) Perhaps we can find somebody and trade for that.

What, a guess what mike will do game ? :)

I predict he will close borders with Louis in 2 or 3 turns to block his silly galley with a settler on board

Got it. I'll play tonight.

I predict I'll do at least major change of strategy that no one sees coming (not even me). It seems to be the way things have gone in my SGs lately.

Soooo

Now that you mention it there were scientists there so the AI must have changed it as I remember looking around from city to city before I started. I do recall noticing that and seeing the level of science pretty good and felt no MMing was necessary anywhere. I just hate that when the AI does that as it has screwed me up in some SP games. I thought once you manipulate the specialist they stay that way. It couldn't be too long as I do notice when the science drops for any reason and check. I did have to reduce science due to coin bleed. This was pretty much a bulding round as we need some economy.

Also having the Epic still makes it a crapshoot even with scientist I have found but of course the odds are better with two scientist in there. Maybe to counter the effect we might consider caste system for a turnset or two and put three or four scientists in Moscow to better our odds. I think we have enough excess food for three and if we push it mm a bit even four.

Moscow can have 5 specialists when it gets a lighthouse.when market comes in i would assign 4 specialists ( 2 scientists & 2 merchants), it's not a disaster if next GP is not a scientist. Great Merchant is OK too

I predict Mike will also make a workboat in London and get furs from Hatsheput.

After a while I realized what happen in Moscow. Towards the end of my turnset I moved HA out to discover the land mass east of us and it went unhappy for about 2 turns until the next HA was built. Maybe then it pulled off the scientist so we only lost a few turns of their influence.

@Asperge I like that and the Lighthouse will only take about 3 turns to build. Also could you predict the lotto numbers too I wouldn't mind winning a cool 10 million. Please, please......

If you predicted that Mike would forget that his friends from California were in town, then head out to meet them after playing golf, and end up hideously drunk at the titty bar, you win!!!

But that didn't stop me from playing once I got home - I wouldn't want to let the team down.

820 AD Cancel Open Borders with Louis, which strands his galley near London. As it turns out, that probably didn't matter too much, since Bismark is on the land to our south west, but at least it keeps Louis from trading with him, since they still haven't met.

I also trade Bananas to Hatty for Fur, and Music to Louis for Priesthood (will need the happy) and Construction (which will help with engineering) and 30 gold.

We might want to do something about this (though I didn't):

860 AD Finish researching Metal Casting and start Paper. I built either forges or courthouses, with the exception of one workboat in London. I probably would have built the workboat for the city east of Moscow from Moscow, but the new city was already nearly half way done.

920 AD We meet Bismark, who is on the land west of Canterbury. I sign Open Borders since he doesn't have a religion, figuring ours will spread to him, but forgetting that Taoism is the only religion we might be able to build a shrine for right now.

Here's how Bismark looks:

Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

960 AD I make some more resource trades.

Clam to Hatty for 5 gpt
Corn from Bismark for Cows
Spice to Bismark for 5 gpt

980 AD We have a second Great Artist in Moscow. He can discover Drama. Instead, I make the following trade:

Civ4ScreenShot0008.JPG

Either GA can discover Theology, which we can also get from Hatty for Philosophy or from Louis for Paper. Bismark will also give us Feudalism for Polytheism, Code of Laws, and Civil Service. We might want to take that one soon - I'm assuming he's partly done researching Civil Service anyway.

1000 AD There's an Arabian galley off the German coast. I give Saladin cows for 4 gpt. He's founded Hinduism, and won't make any tech trades with us, probably due to religious differences.

We need a plan for our great artists. If we trade for Theology, what comes next?

We're researching Education currently.

Organized Religion seems like a good choice, since we're building infrastructure in most cities. I made a few chops with our workers, but nothing inside of our fat crosses. I also did some MMing of working tiles, mostly to get the forge in London done quicker and to increase commerce where production wasn't imperative - feel free to change things around though.

The continent to the east pretty much sucks since we already have copper. I got 34 gold from a hut, but nothing else to report. The galley got cut off by ice, and is heading to the west coast of the eastern continent to get around it.

There's also a marble site available to the west of Germany, but I'm not sure we can get there in time.

Edited to add:

Anyone who predicted that I would use the whip was wrong. (though maybe it might have been appropriate somewhere - I just didn't think of it). Likewise, if you thought I'd be MMing our specialists, I didn't even realize we'd built the National Epic until after I posted everything above!

Great Artist
Literature
Drama
Music
Polytheism
Monarchy
Mass Media
Radio
Mysticism
Monotheism
Divine Right 2 (GA gives us 2/3 of it)
Alphabet
Meditation
Priesthood
Theology 1 (easy to get)
Nationalism 3
Writing
Philosophy
Printing Press (prereq. machinery)
Liberalism 4
Pottery
Horseback Riding
Democracy
Education
Military Tradition 5

Research plan:
1. education,
2. liberalism, to get for free:
3. nationalism,
4. gunpowder,
5. divine right (trade or burn 1 artist),
6. military tradition ( burn other artist, only possible if we don't have machinery).

to be discussed.

We also can start with burning 1 artist for DR and found islam , chance to get it traded later from an AI i estimate is little.

Doh, that artist in Moscow is annoying.

Asperge is up! I like your idea of using the other artist for Divine Right. It would be nice while we are waiting for some better troops to build a settler or two and expand onto neighboring islands.

Ten turns. We have got education and +1 circumnavigation, we met Tokugawa and pleased him....We have two extra city's just for science, doubt if everyone is satisfied with their placement but we can't raze them anymore :D Another settler is waiting near Canterburyon a galley for transport to the marble-place or what else next player (Blid) may decide.

Also did some trading:

Bismarck: Feudalism for CS and CoL (he refused Alphabet in stead of CoL)
Saladin: Theology + 20 for Music,
Bismarck: Compass + 20 for Music (bit expensive but i wanted harbors).

Cause nobody seems to be intested to build the Heroic Epic i did it in London (almost finished);)

After 3 or 4 turns our horse archer almost circumnavigated the world, almost...and it didn't see a possibility to complete it, look:

Civ4netniet.jpg

the horse can't jump to the island south-east, so i decided to get Bismarck's worldmap to get the +1...

Civ4Worldmap.jpg

Handshake, and the guy begins to laugh at us .....WHY ??????

Civ4Bislaughsatme.jpg

That's why...

Civ4thatswhy.jpg

The island wasn't an island....i could have gotten the +1 without him...

but we got the +1 bonus:)

Few turns later we met Tokugawa:

Civ4Tokuappears.jpg

Few turns later he already threatens me:

Civ4Tokusthreat.jpg

I give in and he's pleased and wants to trade everything with me wich i does.

I have given Nottingham two scientists, for a few academies in the future.

Blid good luck! save

Glad to see our team hasn't lost any of its speed! Blid is now up.

Sounds like good turns Asperge. Glad we have got some settlers out and built the HE. Some good trading too.

Sounds good Asperge. Now I think you ... are ... trying ... to ... slow ... the ... game ... pace ... somwhat

Or is it just a new game : guess where the save is ?

Asperge, seems like they have problems with the upload server
Can't you zip it and attach it to the post if it's below 500k ?

Yep everywhere I try to download from uploads12 get the same thing since last night. mmmm what's up civfanatics. No post at the top either.
