S-07 The Fishermens' Shuttle

Turn 0: I take the talked-about trade with Qin to get the most out of our GA research. Research is set to Steam Power. I also follow Rolo's advice and queue Oxford in Maastrich.

Turn 1: Normal large-empire stuff - order up new units, worker commands, scout with ships - not too exciting.

Turn 2: Kill a barb galley with our privateer. Golden Age ends. We now have a second GM.

2gmsse2.jpg

Turn 4: I find yet another GM in a caravel way down to the south. What's up with that? Anyways, I'll send him towards a trade mission I suppose.

Turn 5: SP is in. Democracy due in 5 at a slight deficit. I will trigger a GA now however, so we get GA turns both for Democracy as well as the SoL. Dike's go up across the empire. Only the cities under cultural pressure maintain their previous builds.

lottadikeah7.jpg

Turn 6: I get my first Privateer action - we sink an American caravel.

Turn 8: Our Privateer sank a galleon. I guess this isn't Colonization, where I got to pick what cargo I wanted to steal first.

Turn 9: Democracy comes in. I set research to steel, but there will only be one turn invested. I hold off on the revolt to Emancipation...well I was going to say because we're in a GA, but then I remembered our variant :) SoL is due in 13 or so turns.

Turn 10: Privateer sinks galley.

I don't really have any insights - we're in great shape. Steel can be done in five, if we continue that route. There were no fair trades during my turn, but maybe one will open up.

Er, loading up the save I notice we are in all the wrong civics. Free market should be good in an economy based on trade routes, right? And free religion has got to be better than paganism. I revolt to those, plus representation because I plan on hiring some specialists later on.

Also I notice we are lumbermilling all the forests in our city designated as the national park/national epic city :smoke:. Forest preserves?

Also, I change research from steel to scientific method, since it is on the way to the best tech on the tree in our variant: biology.

Actually, then I notice that Qin has Scientific Method, so I give him chemsitry and economics for it. Qin is researching constitution, so we have chance to steal the free great scientist from physics from him.

We have the luxury of having 2 merchants and 1 engineer free. Since we will be getting a scientist soon and our northern city will soon generate an engineer or an artist, we can afford to use these GPs now.

So on the first turn the engineer trade missions the ToA city he is next to (Seoul). The engineer is going to finish the statue of liberty and the other merchant will board a ship to Seoul.

Science to 100% in anticipation of trade mission revenue next turn.

First turn Cuzco (the city that's generating 100GPT from its shrine) asks to go back to incan control . Next turn the same for Tiwanaku. Needless to say I turn them down. Also Wang asks us to stop trading with Rome, I also refuse.

So we get the GS from Physics. Actually I think I will save the GE because we don't need it to finish the SoL first. I use the scientist to make an academy in top science city Middleburg and will use engineer for another golden age.

Then I realise that we don't need slavery right now, so I change to serfdom in order to build lumbermills and windmills quicker.

Finish some dikes, security bureaus etc, start some airships. We get a priest, so as soon as the GA finishes we start another one with the engineer and the priest.

Once biology finished we started electricity for better windmills. We are one turn away. After that, I think we have all the important techs for our variant and the next players can go in whatever direction they want. Corporation could be good for wall street, but we have plenty of options like communism etc. We finish the national epic and start the national park in vilcamba.

With our GP generation and mauseleum, we virtually have the spiritual trait.

There is a merchant on the way to Seoul in an East Indiaman with a Go-To order.

The possible use of the engineer are rushing Wall Street, establish Mining Inc. (or Aluminum Co. if we don't have it) or Golden Age. I would prefer Mining Inc. (Railroad and Steel needed). No big hurry to build Braodway, but we can plan to build it in a border city.

I built a lot of EP buildings, our espionage graph is skyrocketing :D
This could slow down the AI research rate ;)
High production cities should build some infantries for safety.

Looks like great progress, got it for tonight, about 8 hours from now, if you have any comments let me know before then.

Looking good! I don't think I've actually founded a corporation before, so I'll leave it to those who have experience with it to decide. I presume we would found one in Wall Street city (Cuzco) and spread it mostly to the AIs? TBH I'm not even that concerned if we don't have aluminium. It's normally research that is more important than production in a space race.

We can have cities on wealth if they have nothing better to do.

Try to build our military in our Heroic Epic city (this is amsterdam) and any other cities with military academies (put signs up?). Also with the number of people required for golden ages increasing, and so GA are less useful, we should try to get at least some more merchants as their trade missions seem really helpful.

EDIT: Ha, just read the log and saw that you left out the part about JC declaring on America!

Maybe we should save a GM for sushi corp... It's the earliest corp avaliable, gives food and culture in exchange of seafood ( that we don't lack ) and money and AI love to spread it. Mining inc sounds good too ( more :hammers: )
Corps should be founded in the WS city IMHO ( + 15 gold per foreign city with corp instead of + 5 ( supposing Market + Grocer + Bank + WS ))

Save

Boring turnset all around.

Techs:Industrialization (1 alu), Medicine, Steel, Almost done with Railroad, used Communism to trade for Military Science, 180 gold and map from Korea.

GP:Got a scientist, noticed the city with Oxford didn't have an acadamy :nono: so now it does, the engineer is still living in the city with Wall Street planned (not done yet) and can found Mining Inc if we want next turn. The 2 spys are living in the capital waiting for orders. Still waiting for a GM to found Sid Sushi.

Foreign:The age of pirateers is over as people got frigates, we have enough spy points to have LoS in everywhere but China and Germany, this would be a good use for those two great spys. Everyone is still slow on the research, America and Rome are still warring.

Domesitic:Built a lot of industrial parks, started pentagon in capital, started Broadway in GP city, still waiting on Wall Street (needed a temple). Inca cities have a 6 unhappyness in each wanting to return to Incas and are unhappy, get a flood for a random event and lose a temple in one. Have West Point queued in capital as well (of course can be changed). Started Inf and replaced some of the warriors and archers in our core but still need many more. Workers finished improving and started roading our land.

Got it and will play in the evening....

After a quick look at the save, I would say that we really need the sushi corp in the ex-incan cities to push back the border.

About the GSpies: I think we should keep one ( or even both ) to make GAs in the SS parts build time frame.

I'm leaning to found Mining corp ASAP. Anyone against this?

^^That was my idea: use the corp primarily as a money collector ( and a AI economy crippler  ), then spread it carefully to our lands, choosing wisely the cities where we spread it

Mining spread to anywhere we need production and to all the ai. Sushi spread everywhere because we always need food, likewise spread to all the ai.

When spreading it to the ai just bring it to just to one of their most productive cities, they will then pay the cost and spread it around just as fast as we can spread it. Spies can help us if we need to change others civics.

Turn 0 – MM Tiwanaku ( the city that will spawn next GP in 4 turns ) to maximize merchants (ATM we have 20% GM )

Turn 1 – Railroads is in, Research set on Combustion ( would be very sad if we don’t have oil... ). And.....
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Turn 2 – IBT QSH builds the Kremlin and Frederick gets a Gspy ( Casanova BTW :p )

Turn 3 – IBT Wang tries it again....
Spoiler :
Again.0000.jpg

Defied it again, but not sure if i did the best thing...
And sold PP per 70 gold to Lincoln ( just to clean his money... he lacked 1 turn to discover it )

Turn 4 – Discovered Combustion and research was set on Radio ( we have oil under a ex-incan city. We got a GS ( grrrr.... ) Next GP will come in 7 turns in the NE city and most likely will not be a GM

Turn 5 – Ceasar captured a American city....

Turn 8 – We captured a Roman spy.... Radio is in, research set in Plastics

Turn 9 – Sold SciMet to Lincoln per 120 gold. Same trick...

Turn 10 – JC and Lincoln made peace... made this deals to clean wallets:

Thoughs

We have some wonders waiting to be done: Eiffel (IMHO should be done in the Hague, where IW is being built ) and Rock n' Roll ( should go to one of the ex-incan cities IMHO ). TGD will be avaliable in 3 turns @ current tech rate ( 80% :science: + 23 ATM ) and IMHO should go to the Capitol.
The GS is still avaliable. Uses?
We should build some more modern units now that we have oil ( especially naval ones ). I lacked in that regard to try to resolve some :yuck: issues.
Maybe it is time to finally capture that barb city that is south of Haarlem...

This is getting in cruise speed to victory... and turnsets are starting to need :coffee: .... but that only proofs that the team is a good one ;)

Blimey, we really are on cruise control. Didn't I say that this would be more of a challenge on emperor? :p

IMO we should not defy resolutions. Just vote no or yes or whatever, it doesn't matter. But we don't want the hapiness hit for defying things.

Wang Kong sure got a good deal for buying combustion for 160 gold ! If this was a close contest you'd get a :gripe: for that one but in this position I'll let it go :smug:.

The turnsets seem to be easy and quick - I'm impressed with the team's pace :goodjob:. Sunrise089 is up now.

Wang was getting the tech next turn ( as well as all the tech trades in my turnset )... :p This is not the stupid tech trade contest, I think ... ( BTW that would give a good SG.... )
