What have we ascertained? asked Indhira Gandhi to the Director of Indian Intelligence at the National Security Council Meeting.
Unni Krishnan leaned back at the table and folded his hands before answering We have carried out a investigation into the bomb blasts and from interrogation and other sources we have determined they were carried out by elements of the UIS military likely on orders by their government.
The places that were struck include a car bomb in Marahastara which killed 10 people and injured 5 others, one in Delhi with 7 killed and 3 wounded. It was carried out in Northern India mostly with approximately 30 dead and 50 wounded.
We have captured and interrogated several terrorists and from what we have gathered they were trained by the UIS in training camps in Pakistan and Iran before infiltrating the border and carrying out the attacks.
What of these accusations by the UIS of Hindus blowing up mosques? questioned Indhira Gandhi
A hoax Madame Prime Minister Krishnan replied, We have found out that it was carried out by the UIS themselves.
Her brow creased They kill their own citizens but why?
Krishnan sighed, Its quite simple. The UIS faces massive separatist problems and the hold on their alliance is tenuous. They just started a disastrous war on the USE and Greece, which they can only lose. They need something to unify their people a war against us would be the perfect. However they need an excuse to attack us and by blowing up their own mosques now they have one.
My god Indhira Gandhi whispered Theyre insane
Actually that may be true Madame Prime Minister said Krishnan The government of the UIS is not exactly one would call reasonable. They detonated a nuclear bomb in their own city killing 4 million of their own citizens, they started a foolish war against Greece and the USE over a land that is not even Muslim, they carried out terrorist attacks against us and blew up their own mosques. Now they present us with insane demands such as getting rid of our nuclear weaponry, which is one of the main defenses, we have against a UIS invasion. Then they demand Kashmir and Bangladesh and that Sri Lanka is independent and that we create a 50 mile DMZ on OUR side of the border. None of these lands are even Muslim all are either Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, Jain or one of the other groups yet they demand it as they did Cyprus.
They know we will never agree to such demands, said Indhira Gandhi What do they think they could possibly hope to achieve?
Again they want a excuse to go to war said Krishnan They know we will refuse such mad demands so they hope to get yet another excuse for war.
Alright now how does China fit into to all of this?
As we know the UIS and China are cooperating. Notice how skirmishes with China broke out at exactly the same time as skirmishes with Pakistan broke out? China and the UIS have an agreement clearly. If the UIS attacks us China will too.
Gandhi frowned But Im convinced China does not want war
Chief of the Army Staff George Fernandez spoke up I must agree China would be insane to attack us. The entire Chinese border is heavily fortified with bunkers, land mines, and in addition to that it is mountainous. The last time the Chinese attacked they didnt get far. This time they wont either. Our troops are dug in the Chinese will have to advance along the mountain pathways and ledges which are narrow. The men have to walk in single file if they slip and fall it is certain death. If we pin them down with machine gun fire there is nowhere to flee. Once they are out there the units will be cut off without a radio link. And of course there is the cold and thin air, which saps the strength of the men. Our soldiers are already there and acclimatized to the region know the area and are fighting for their homeland. China cannot win.
Unni Krishnan replied, That may be the case but China will push us as far as they can go to threaten us to give them Aski Chin. We own Aski Chin our troops occupy it and it is ours yet China claims it. China hopes that by allying with the UIS it can get what it wants.
So in short said Indhira Gandhi This is the price of peace that the UIS and China want. We give Kashmir and Bangladesh to the UIS, give Sri Lanka independence, give up our nuclear weaponry making it easier for them to invade us, and hand over Aski Chin to the Chinese. And it will go like that chiseling away at us to make us the weaker power in Asia.
She paused lost in her own thoughts for a moment then summed it up It is not the road that India would seek to go down
