---------------------->The Story<----------------------

Welcome! This is the Out of Character (OOC) thread for a new storytelling roleplay game about England. We will be following this civilization as it progresses through the individuals that make up the world. I, the gm, will be in charge of playing the turns and relating events to you in town-crier/newspaper/radio-host/tv-news-anchor/internet-tabloid form. Please follow the link and enjoy our story! Any questions, comments, or concerns please post in this thread. If you wish to join us on our adventure, please read the rules below!

You will be in charge of acting out the life and role of someone in this civilization. This can be literally anyone from king down to pauper, president to average joe, big brother to prole (1984 anyone?). If your interested please read the rules below and post what character you wish to play! Please be sure to check the list of what is already taken before you post your character choice.

The game will be run over two threads: an in-character (IC), and out-of-character (OOC). No OOC in the IC thread and vice versa. The ooc thread will mainly be used for actual discussion by the players about choices made in game and about the story. I will reveal information about the game world in the OOC thread, but the only real "updates" (we'll call them chapters in the IC) in the OOC thread will be save files, as I plan to divulge all of the information needed about the game world in the IC thread, but I still want you guys to be able to make screen-shots or get a better idea of what is happening by accessing the save itself. The OOC will be just a normal thread, but the IC will have rules. Posts must be in paragraph form with at least two paragraphs of proof-read roleplay in them. There will be no godmoding or the like (for those of you unfamiliar with roleplay, godmoding is the controlling of another persons character(s) without their consent). All posts will be subject to approval by me, and if found to be in anyway against the rules I will ask that you please either revise or remove your post. Though I have set all these rules they are mostly a formality, but are to uphold the quality of the story to make it better for everyone.

Who plays what role and what each role has power over in the game could potentially cause issues, but I hope in the interest of fun we can all be reasonable about this. Everyone can play multiple roles if they wish (and I heartily encourage it). I want to keep everything fair though, so if one person is playing the king, the great general, and the missionary and another wishes to play the great general, the first must give it up because they already are controlling two other high-profile characters. Though multiples of the same kind of role are ok (multiple peasants, multiple merchants). If there is enough demand for a single high-profile role (for example the monarch), we would simply take turns controlling the ruling family upon the death of the king. For roles involving great people and the like we can always have a waiting list that would be first-come-first-served. As for what power the role actually has in the game, it will just be common sense. The king will obviously at the beginning have the most direct power over what happens in the actual game, though for instance a mutiny on the part of soldiers would give direct control to the leader of that group. Though a great profit or missionary would choose the next religion, or scientist the next technology. It really just depends on the role, and any conceivable role is open. However, I reserve the right to veto any actions in the interest of the story. For example, if strategically in the game it would be best to sacrifice a unit that another is controlling but they don't want to kill of their character the action will be vetoed. Or obvious "beelining" of technology will also be stopped because such an action is unrealistic in the context of a story. Some decisions could possibly be announced in the roleplay but others can simply be put in the OOC thread, or left for me to make. Though we are centering the story on the game, it is not going to be the main focus.

Currently Taken Roles
dot80: Storyteller
Bfoxius: Governor of York, Barbarian Chief
xnira: Regent, Cartographer
Heerlo: Wardens

A note to the writers: I think it would be best if we all agreed to use the title box of our posts to give the perspective we are coming from. If you don't get what I mean, look at my first post as an example.

In addition, to make things easier, the story is going to begin on "Year 1." So in actuality, turn 150 is going to be year 1, and each subsequent turn is going to be year (turn#-150).

If you guys can't use the save file just pm me and I can give you screenshots and information. Xnira, you can do the king thing in 2 ways: Kill off the old dynasty in some way and start a new, or you can just continue on with the Cerdic dynasty. I'm good either way.

Here is the save: View attachment Saga of the English (Update 1).Civ5Save

Here is a link to the google doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Au84m6DGBwLydGJlSTBDVUp4alZHWFBzUGIxVWhHdXc&usp=sharing

I am going to do all the OOC updates in this manner.

Sorry about my first post. I had written a ton, but stupid Google Chrome wouldn't load, and in the end I lost it, so you have a crummy first paragraph of my post. Another thing, Civilization is crashing on my computer after about a minute, so can one of you post some screenshots here for me to use, for I only have two.

There, revised my post. A quick guide to it:
Grante River: River west of York.
Oakwild: The forest east of York.
Grand Countryside: The country just outside London.
Wildfolk: Englishmen descended from the native barbarians in the Oakwild.
Pastureland: Cow pastures around York.
Aengland: A name for England.
Wardens: The scout-archers.
I also came up with somewhat of a rough idea for acaste system for England. Basically: Highfolk: (Government of Aengland.) Cityfolk: (Wealthy traders and merchants in London.) Countryfolk: (People in the Grand Countryside.) Wildfolk: (Explained above.)

Could you also use screen shots? I don't have the DLC to open it :/

Also, can we not go overboard with the spellings? I think the œ and ae are more Celtic anyways..?

Yep Ill get some screenshots and pm them to you guys. Xnira a map base off of the screenshots and Bfoxius' descriptions would be nice :)

Chapter One

Ælfwine, a popular story teller. (dot80)
Ælfred of Cerdia, the founding monarch who began the Midsummer Festivities. He died suddenly while on a hunting trip and left his kingdom without an heir, or so Ælfwine says. (dot80)
Eadweard, the next monarch who saved London from ravaging and pillaging barbarians (in the aftermath of Ælfred's death). He was from a tribe, now long gone, known as Cerdia and began the Cerdic dynasty in England, or so Ælfwine says. (dot80)
Nyle Rodrickson, the governor of York His father was the commander of the Wardens. (Bfoxius)
Elrod, a Wildfolk who lives in York. (Bfoxius)
Ninian of Cerdia, also known as the Old King. He is remembered for initiating the movement that led to the founding of York. (xnira)
Ethelred the Unready, is the son of the Old King. He was originally considered the heir until the Royal Advisor, at the last minute, changed his inheritance and it instead went to his nephew. He is of the gambling drunk sort. (xnira)
Elgar of Cerdia, is the grandson of the Old King who inherits the throne as a 3-yeard old. (xnira)
Sir Audric Helty, is the Royal Advisor who insures that Ethelred does not inherit the throne and instead gives it to the Old King's grandson. He is appointed Prince Regent until the king is of age. (xnira)
Yyrik, the leader of a barbarian encampment.(Bfoxius)
Rukil, a self taught archer in the Warden who was orphaned. (Heerlo)
Godwine, the town crier of York. (dot80)
Leofwine, a farmer. (dot80)

Can I be a barbarian chieftain?
By the way, in my York story, I meant that Nyle's father was the captain of the Wardens, not Nyle. Sorry for unclear writing, I'll redo it.

That would be interesting! You could be the leader of the camp the warriors are near or you could choose a plave and I could add one with the editor!

edit: Got your pm Bfoxius. Im out right now so ill send you the screenshot when I get back.

Second Guide!
Ferusnygh: Horse plains east of the barbarian encampment.
Barbari: Denizens of the barbarian encampment to the south of England. The people who coined the English name: Barbarian.
Barbarinygh: The barbarian encampment. Literally: Barbari Place.
Barbarifylr: Literally: Barbarian Folk.

Sorry I haven't been here yet. I was gone most of the day yesterday and when I tried to check up on this last night, my internet was messing up.

Anyway, looks good so far, but I've gotta get caught up. I haven't even looked at the IC thread yet!

Also, if this has DLC (besides Mongolia), I can't load it.

I have G&K, but no DLC. :(
