Saints 1 - A Genuine Prick

Micromanage :)

Weird game so far...I guess the AI's so busy trembling at our eminent prickness to bother building military or wonders.

Micromanage :)

Weird game so far...I guess the AI's so busy trembling at our eminent prickness to bother building military or wonders.

Can't believe I couldn't figure that out. XD

Okay, I'll play my turns tomorrow. I was too busy tonight with writing. 10,000 words out of 50,000 done! Woo!

Anyways, yes, micromanaging...not my strong point. XD

1. Nothing
2. I raised a barb city on my second turn.
3. Nothing
4. Nothing
5. Nothing
6. Nothing
7. Our Keshiks continue to get stronger.
8. Sailing is complete. For our next technology, I choose Iron Working, only so we can get to the sailing techs after it. We really don’t need the military from it.
9. Nothing again.
10. Nothing.
11. Killed a random barbarian swordsman. That’s about it.
12. Nothing
13. Continued with doing nothing!
14. I’ve decided to start scouting the area surrounding our boy Julius out of boredom.
15. We complete the Oracle. I take Metal Casing as the free tech, though I really should have grabbed Code of Laws.
16. Nothing.
17. We have a million d00ds in our empire! Woo!

Civ4ScreenShot0004-1.jpg

Jules has his praetorians out. :O
18. Nothing again
19. Nothing.
20. And nothing again.

I see Christianity was FIADL. And a Praet and an Axe is for defense is downright competent ;) So perhaps the rest of the world isn't as bumbling as Shaka and Izzy.

Got it for tomorrow or Sunday. I want to head toward Alpha and/or find some other civs, so we can start prickishly demanding techs.

[Edit: Saint Rising, I assume I'm playing 20 here?]

I played 16, to get us back on an even turn.

0- Our economy is floundering again. 45 gold, and losing 17/turn at 50%. I take us down to 20% and hire Scientists in K, Besh, and Ulundi.

1- Fortunately, there are two opportunities for more gold near Madrid:

7- Both barb cities razed.

8- Trying to find some new targets.

11-

No Iron in our borders, but there is some near Madrid and Ulundi.

15- And now, for my prickish move of the turnset:

Civ4ScreenShot0029.jpg

Scouted this out ahead of time. Arretium is defended by a lone Praet. Our Keshik is Combat 1 and Shock. Feeling lucky, punk?

16- Julius doesn't attack, and our Keshik and new Worker are now safely out of range :D

Most units left unmoved. I've started building Forges (Ulundi's just came in). Did some chops outside of BFCs. Not much else.

Maybe someone can help me. I never know what to do with all the extra workers. XD

Nice prickery at the end.

Got it for tomorrow. It seems pretty straightforward; keep building ships and hope to find someone else to bother.

This was a pretty boring set. I had nothing to do but waiting for cottages and cities to grow, except for razing a barbarian city for some cash.

I took peace with Julius since he is too far away and his prets are still dangerous. But we'll be back ;)

Our galley explored the coast, but we seem to be isolated. By some reason we had already invested in Alphabet (why, Julius is unlikely to trade?), so I finished it. We could now either go for currency (good for the economy), or bee-line for Optics (let's find the cowards overseas). It is up for the next person to decide.

I also found another barb city and our Keshiks are eager to strike...

First I have to say that it was a pleasure to continue on such great setup that Yena had left the game. I only changed couple of tile assignments to speed up forges.

I decided to go for Currency, because Optics is not enough to get anything really evil done on other continents :p We better get our economy fixed first and I think we're heading to right direction.

Turn 1

Nothing else to do besides burning the barbarian city. We get a lousy sum of gold for it, but the pleasure is prize enough

Turn 2

Karma strikes back with this event. I pick the middle option as we were not working the mine and saving it would have cost a half of our treasury :D

saints20.jpg

Turn 3

Capital finishes a forge and starts a settler for that juicy gems site.

Turn 4

We get a great prophet, meh :undecide:. I'm wondering if I should bulb him for Meditation, just to piss you guys off (:mwaha:), but ultimately decide to settle him at our capital. Shrine might have been a better choise in practise, but that would have increased the change for religion spreading. And I really have no intention to give our citizens that pleasure.

I also decide to declare Julius again, mostly just to amuse myself. Well, that also let's our galley to continue exploring.

saints21.jpg

Turn 11

Capital finishes the settler quickly with 2 forest chops and starts another one right away.

Looks like we're not completely hopeless on techs. Nothing that little trading wouldn't fix later.

saints22.jpg

Turn 18

Old Sarai settled. We already have an army of workers ready to farm the rice. Let's try to get those gem mines online asap.

saints23.jpg

Turn 20

I'll close my turns by leaving a keshik and Julius's former worker in a tight spot. Barbarian axeman and warrior are also wandering nearby, so if it seems hopeless, just execute these guys.

saints24.jpg

We also have a settler ready, and here's what I propose as our site. But should we delay settling?

saints25.jpg

Then couple of random notes:

Capital is set to max growth, but we should employ scientists back once we get the additional citizen.

Turfan could definitely use more cottages, but our workers were busy with preparing new settlements. Should be looked as soon as possible.

I also started couple of more keshiks, but no hammers are invested.

I would continue to Code of Laws, courthouses would be helpful.

Good luck :)

See, this is why I really should have got Code of Law instead of Metal Working. courthouses. *headdesk* What was I thinking?

Nobody has input eh?

...are we allowed to build temples? I see Karakorum has one. They would let us grow the cities more, but I'm not sure if making a happy (and culture) building is very prickish.....

The way forward is pretty clear, isn't it? CoL, courthouses, and then onto Optics to get some trade going; at least until we get Astronomy and are able to launch an invasion or two

Answer would be no :) Direct quete from starting post:

"We can't use hammers or turns to make our people happy."

Played 23 turns, to finish out CoL. Here's the skinny:

- reconfigured some cities to stagnate and produce more hammers since they were at happy cap. This cost a bit of commerce, which I made up for by temporarily lowering the slider to 30% research...didn't really affect our # of turns needed very much. (I was later able to move it back up to 40%)

- I founded New Sarai 1 space north of where the settler had been sitting. That forces us to share some tiles, yes, but it also gets rid of some crappy plains and gains a banana and more grasslands. Overall I think it will be a good commerce city, possible to run lots of specialists if we want.

My second turn, we got a quest!
Spoiler :
t361_quest.jpg

This led me to tech Masonry before CoL, thinking we could get the GLight (good for economy and the quest). Plus, only cost 5 turns.

Being a prick, I didn't feel like making peace with Caesar since he wouldn't give me anything for it. So instead, I went about pillaging his fishing nets:

Turn 367, killed a barb axe and masonry comes in:

t367_masonry.jpg

Code of Laws was next!

Lots of boring turns, hooking up resources for the new cities, building some defense so we can send out our chariots and keshiks where we want (maybe burn some roman cities...)

This was a pleasant surprise:

Of course, soon as I start the great lighthouse in Karakorum, we get this:

t377_GLbuilt.jpg

...ok well I guess we can just build the Triremes then.

Now that Madrid had some archers in it, I sent our cavalry towards the barb city that had been rebuilt nearby.

pillaged the nets again...

...and Caesar attacked our galley...and lost

You'll have to skip me, guys. I'm leaving for the weekend and I'm a tad busy this night. =(

One love!
