Ignore the man behind the green curtain. ... er ... I mean ... All Hail the Machine God!
Inherited Turn (1580 AD)
I took a quick check of our cities. They are all sick and we can really use the Hanging Gardens to get them growing faster. In Bejing, we're cooking up a Great Engineer in about 13 turns. Hanging Gardens is due in 18 and I don't see any way to speed it up. Whipping would require 8 population. It will probably be a waste of the GE by the time he is born so we'll probably end up using him for research or stash him for a different wonder? I switched a riverside grassland farm from Beijing to Nanjing to get Nanjing growing again.
Shanghai grows: 9
IBT: At Uzbek:
While defending, Maceman loses to: Egyptian Catapult (1.85/5)
Uh, did the Machine God dictate that we have a war with no army? Where is our army? Please don't tell me that an Egyptian catapult just wiped out half our army?
Also, an Egyptian horse archer appeared outside of Guangzhou, our northeastern-most city, threatening our wounded maceman there. I retreated him to a hilltop to heal and back him up with an axeman from Guangzhou.
Turn 1 (1583 AD)
Axeman promoted: Woodsman I
Catapult promoted: Barrage I
Catapult promoted: City Raider II
Longbowman promoted: City Garrison I
Cho-Ko-Nu promoted: Combat I
Cho-Ko-Nu promoted: Shock
Catapult promoted: Barrage I
Catapult promoted: City Raider I Did I mention I turned on AutoPromote?
Ratz, I see we're not using slavery anymore. There's no whipping us out of the sickness or speeding up military units. Can we discuss conditions under which we can change civics? Maybe after a certain number of turns operating under a Machine God suggested revolution?
Guangzhou grows: 9
I shut down research to begin upgrading our army to macemen.
IBT: At Uzbek:
While defending, Axeman defeats (1.60/5): Egyptian Catapult
While defending, Maceman loses to: Egyptian Crossbowman (6.00/6)
Isabella comes looking for a trade:
That went well. How about this?
Kewl.
Turn 2 (1586 AD) Uzbek comes out of revolt, pops its borders and gives us horses. We were offered the choice of building either a horse archer or a library:
Uzbek begins: Horse Archer
Oh, I found the rest of our army, outside of Giza south of Uzbek:
I don't think we brought enough to take this city. Man, we are pathetic. Nonetheless, the bombardment of Giza began.
Bactrian grows: 5
IBT: At Uzbek:
While defending, Catapult loses to: Egyptian Crossbowman (6.00/6)
Also, a pillage-minded barbarian swordsman appeared outside of Nanjing, down south.
Turn 3 (1589 AD)
At Nanjing:
While attacking, Cho-Ko-Nu defeats (6.00/6): Barbarian Swordsman
Finally, a longbowman arrived to garrison Uzbek. That crossbowman had been kicking our butt, there.
Shanghai finishes: Catapult
IBT:
While defending, Longbowman defeats (2.58/6): Egyptian Crossbowman
That's the good news. Bad news is that an Egyptian Horse Archer and War Elephant appear outside Giza next. Our horses may be at risk, or the city itself.
Turn 4 (1592 AD)
Longbowman promoted: City Garrison II
Catapult promoted: City Raider I
Catapult promoted: City Raider II
Shanghai begins: Catapult
Turn 5 (1595 AD)
At Guangzhou:
While attacking, Maceman defeats (1.20/8): Egyptian Horse Archer
Guangzhou finishes: National Epic
Also, the Machine God has an astute, timely and strategic idea:
IBT: at Giza:
While defending, Longbowman defeats (3.18/6): Egyptian War Elephant
While defending, Maceman defeats (1.60/8): Egyptian Horse Archer
No more threats to Uzbek ever showed up after this.
Turn 6 (1598 AD)
Maceman promoted: City Raider III <- this was the one who killed the Horse Archer outside Guangzhou.
Guangzhou begins: Catapult other choice was a Confucian Academy. Brilliant! Sheer brilliance!
Uzbek begins: Catapult
Upgrades are completed and I crank up research again. Philosophy (PHILOSOPHY?!?!?) due in 9ish turns. "o/~ o/~ Hear that train a comin', comin' round the bend. I ain't seen the sunshine, since I don't know when ... o/~ o/~
Bactrian finishes: Longbowman
Nanjing finishes: Cho-Ko-Nu
Turn 7 (1601 AD)
Cho-Ko-Nu promoted: Combat I
Nanjing begins: Cho-Ko-Nu other choice was Library.
Outside Guangzhou:
While attacking, Maceman loses to: Egyptian Horse Archer (0.72/6) dang! 78% odds
While attacking, Catapult defeats (5.00/5): Egyptian Horse Archer
Another pillaging Horse Archer dies.
Meanwhile, the bombardment of Giza has completed. As they say, no guts no glory. I begin the assault of Giza by sacrificing two catapults against the defenders, a Garrison II Longbowman, another Longbowman and a Spearman. The third catapult fared better:
While attacking, Catapult loses to: Egyptian Longbowman (5.10/6)
While attacking, Catapult loses to: Egyptian Longbowman (1.74/6)
While attacking, Catapult defeats (5.00/5): Egyptian Longbowman
While attacking, Maceman defeats (6.56/8): Egyptian Longbowman
While attacking, Swordsman defeats (5.10/6): Egyptian Spearman
Captured Giza (Hatshepsut)
Kushans grows: 7
Turn 8 (1604 AD)
At Giza:
Catapult promoted: Barrage I
Maceman promoted: Combat I
Ratz, I figured out Hatty still has a supply of horses, but her Iron supply will belong to us when Giza pops its borders. I pillaged the mine there too soon, doh. I start healing and moving the surviors back up toward Uzbek and begin building another stack.
Turn 9 (1607 AD)
Shanghai finishes: Catapult
IBT:
Outside of Guangzhou:
While defending, Catapult loses to: Egyptian Horse Archer (6.00/6) And we get another farm pillaged.
Ghengis Khan offers a sweeter deal, but won't help us against Hatty.
Turn 10 (1610 AD)
Catapult promoted: City Raider I
Catapult promoted: City Raider II
Tech learned: Drama
Shanghai begins: Catapult The other choice was -- you guessed it -- a theater! Perfect!
Giza begins: Lighthouse The other choice was a 90-turn Cho-Ko-Nu. Awesome! Giza's never going to amount to anything but it will control Silver and Iron and will never require much defense.
Folks, war is hell and I'm beat. I don't need another relapse so I'm going to call it quits after 10 turns. Alexander will declare on Hatty in exchange for Paper so we should probably discuss. Here's some screenshots:
We are no longer last in score.
Isabella must be struggling against Hatty.
But fear not, we're still firmly planted in the cellar of the power rankings -- our Machine God continues to guide us well.
