Saviors Of A Broken World 1.5: Sending A Message

Okay, you listening? Good, 'cause I'm not repeating this. Gotta break in the fresh fish before our next job.

First real job in this place ended well, I'd say. Frenchie almost blew the whole gig when he got spotted, so I felt it was necessary to intervene. Threw a car in the place. You should have heard those guys squeal! I finished off the rest of them and scrammed with as much firepower I could. And I could carry a lot, hehe.

Then I ran into one of these heroes. Some pansy in a bird costume. I would have snapped this pipsqueak like a toothpick, but the coward had some gizmo in his suit that made him tougher. Cheater. I showed him though. Apparently Fear was peeved at me for some reason, so I just threw them both in a dumpster. Fear wasn't too happy afterwards, but I really don't care. What's he gonna do, hit me?

So I sold my share of the weapons (Keeping some nice ones for myself), and I wandered around until I found that some street trash was following me around. Turns out they were a bunch of anarchists who heard about my awesomeness in the warehouse raid and thought they wanted to kick around with me. I didn't want them slowing me down at first, but when they told me some of them were former soldiers and gang members. Hell, one of them was an ex-sniper, pretty good from what he told me. How could I turn that muscle down? More hands make more chaos, more chaos make more fun, know what I mean? I led them to an abandoned Jackal warehouse (ain't those guys generous?) and set up shop. Armory, security system, strongroom, pool table, the whole works. The sniper suggested we name it Amity Island. I like it.

After everyone got comfortable, I got a message from someone. Observer, it called itself. Wanted me to raid some billionaires house. Why not? Good money in it. I told the gang, and they seemed happy about it. Ecstatic even. Seems a lot of them had a bad run in with this Belliam character and wanted a bit of payback. So I set a time and we're going to head over and trash the place, make off with all the gold we can carry. Good chance for my little army to show its stuff.

Our sniper called back. Seems one of the fish is a crier. Can't miss that. I'll catch up on this later then. Ransack out!

Well that was an interesting two days. The first day I took a trip back home to get some new clothes and headed around to Belliam manor. It wasn't really something I'd planned out, but I'd seen her on TV talking about the hypothetical of me turning up on her doorstep tomorrow and my sense of humor demanded I do so after that. We had a fairly long chat, including a bit about the Mockingbird and Raven, as well as an introduction to her apparent genius of a ward. After she left we moved back to our little game of words, and soon I found I was staying the night...

We had a fairly rude awakening the next morning though. I had barely finished dressing when a bunch of Night Stalkers thugs barged into the room, and Anna contacted me to say she and some others were attacking the place. Would have been nice to know beforehand something like that, but oh well. I surrendered like a good boy so as not to raise suspicions, and it became clear their main goal was to kidnap Belliam. The police arrived, and Anna agreed to leave me behind as they escaped with Belliam; which was a fairly close call from what I saw.

Belliam was released within a few hours after soem apparently very fast ransom negotiations, which I later discovered had ended up as $30,000, as well as the value of the other stolen objects. After I made sure everything was alright with her, and gave my part of the story to the police, I headed back to the apartment. Anna seemed to be in a bit of a mixed mood about what had happened; alternately getting angry at me for 'ignoring' her, telling me she wasnt going to hurt me, and getting mad at Belliam for some reason I still have no idea about. The girl knows how to send mixed messages I'll say that much; I got lost about half way through and I still didn't understand the end of the conversation after she went to bed.

It wasn't hard to buy Gerani Industries a few small buildings around the city, from which they could begin the long task of establishing thier position. What was hard was sleeping in them. For all his attempts to justify it, Fear found he couldn't use those buildings as bases; his work was to morally questionable now for a medical compnay to be linked to it, no matter how remotely. He wouldn't, couldn't even, do that to the buisness that was his fathers legacy.

But it was clear now he would be in the area for a while. This was going to be no easy task to establish a position in the city, and while he was tired of sleeping in derelict buildings he had no intention of flying the FEARJet half way across the world twice a day just to sleep in a comfortable bed. A new solution would need to be devised. When he thought about it, the awnser was simple really. He was well known to dissapear at times; would anbody really be suprised for him to establish a second home?

Fear leaned against the wall and considered it. It didn't need to be a big house, just somewhere he could sleep. And Anna could sleep. And somewhere to park the FEARJet. And somewhere else to put a car or something. A backup hidey hole for his equipment. A security system to keep people coming in, maybe some guards too. Alright, it might have to be bigger than he was used to. After all, changing the system took more resources than working within it.

After a long while lost in thought, Frederick pulled out his phone and dialed in a number. His planned new building was going to make quite a splash on the Metro City skyline...

Houston Powers wandered his way through the crowd to the blackjack table. Leaning against the vibrant green countertop were two people. The first looked over his cards carefully, his thin frame clad in a white blazer, a stark contrast to the black eyepatch that was strapped to his head. The woman to his right Houston immediately recognized, her golden, shimmering dress attracting all of the attention, and her beautiful body and face taking away the breath of every man. "Hold," the man stated in a baritone voice. The dealer flipped over his card. "15," he sighed, drawing another card. "25. Bust. You win again, sir."
The crowd erupted in claps as the dealer grudgingly handed over a stack of chips. Houston slowly clapped as he approached the table. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, staring at the woman, who casually sipped her martini. The man nodded, and Houston took a seat. Reiterating the game so Houston knew the rules, the Turkish-looking dealer statedin a monotone, "The name of the game is blackjack, gentlemen. $100 minimum bet." Both placed down the minimum bet. Sliding a card to the other man, he said, "King for you, sir," and to Houston, "and three for you." He himself had a king, with one card hidden to the side.
Flipping over a second card, Dealer slid it to the man. "Seventeen," Dealer said. The man held his hand in his chin, and looked at the deck. Moments later, the man said, "Hit me." The dealer gave him an odd look, but he replied while looking at Houston, "I like to livebdangerously." The dealer lifted the card, and shook his head. "21." The crowd erupted in applause, and even Houston clapped slowly.
Turning to Houston, the dealer slid another card. "Five."
"I'll stay," Houston said, to everyone's surprise. The dealer gave Houston an odd look and stated, "I suggest you hit, sir."
Houston looked at the other man and replied to the dealer, "I also like to live dangerously. The dealer simply shrugged and flipped over his own card that was facedown- a Jack. "20 beats your five," the dealer smirked. "I'm sorry, sir."
"Well, I won't lie to you," Houston joked, "Cards are not my thing, baby." Turning to the couple at the table, Houston said, "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Powers. Houston Powers."
"My name is Number Two," the man in the white shirt stated, "and this is my Italian secretary, she's Alotta Fagina."
Houston paused and said, "Come again?"
Alotta replied, "Alotta Fagina."
"Ah, sorry, I thought you said she's a lot of...um...never mind..." Houston snickered. "Funny to see you end up here, Alotta."
"And you," she sighed, sipping her drink. "I thought me bankrupting you that night would keep you out of the city."
"No way, baby! I still got my mojo, despite a lack of money currently..." Houston glanec away for a moment. "Number Two, I have a proposition that will benefit the both of us. Why dont you come to the room I rented, and bring Alotta Fagina with you?"
"Gladly," he chuckled, and the group left the blackjack table.
----
"I can tell you are a man of great wealth," Houston told Number Two while he finished sweeping the room for surveillance devices. Finding none, he sat down next to Alotta Fagina on his bed, and continued on. "Also, you must have heard of me before. I was the owner of a massive, international anti-crime agency, until I did Alotta Fagina, who took almost all of my money without me knowing it. However, what many people don't know is a secret that must not leave this room unless I say otherwise. Besides, I can tell that you aren't the cleanest of men. That eyepatch obviously has some computer installed that includes x-ray vision, but I digress. Do I have your promised silence?"
"My lips are sealed," Number Two replied, and Alotta nodded.
"At least half, if not three quarters of that crime was perpetrated by my personal men, who would be hunted down by the recruited secret agents. It was a brilliant plan, but you know what happened," Houston sighed, taking a sip of his tequila. "I want to re-start this business, and I would like your help."
"Count me in," Number Two replied quickly.
