Scenarios & Modcomps

I've just been doing a little browsing too, and I've found a good one for American cities. Here.

Also, in the CFC FAQ, I fount this:
Population: The total population of each city added together (1 population point equals 1,000 people, 2 equals 6,000 people, etc.). To see a city's population in terms of people, just mouse over the city's name on the main screen and look in the bottom left.

I've got this so far:

Very well done! Here are another useful link, with a lot of info about the period. This one shows a thread where some guys discuss about something that call "LiME", maybe it's another game. The case is, it features some maps of the period. And, finally, this one shows a discussion about China discovering America in 1435. The first post represents the historical reference I wanted to make for an alt-reality scenario with this background.

any use?

well since i am too slow on research, what can i do to help? (unfortunaly, i am almost completely computer illiterate, so can't help you guys there)

Well, the thing is to play a game until the year 1800, save it in the worldbuilder, and later start modifying it, according to history. I'm not sure, but it might be possible to make some civs being renamed -and a CityList added- to reflect their nature at that time, without making the entire game to crash. I'm thinking in Rome -renamed as Italy-, and maybe we can use Celts -now minor- to make them the Dutch. In Vanilla, the Dutch will have to be Malinese or Egyptians :( . Aztecs can be renamed as Mexicans, and Incans as "Latins", and make them near to uprise. This should be the only coding needed to do, apart from moving entire cities of place -what is a question of cut and paste-.

Probably the hardest part will be when adding buildings and armies. I doubt we find data about it, so on this point we will have to make use of common sense, and think on game balance.

Exactly. I think we'll have to wait for the game to be finished before actually creating it, so that we won't have to update it. The planning can start now though :D

I've still had no luck attaching the maps, even in a zip.

You can use the "Easy Upload system" (the red button to the right that shows a pick-up triangle and two lines under it). Size limit is 10.00 Mb, hope is enough ;). You'll be given an HTML adress when done. Paste it in your post so we can easily download it.

BTW, I'm actually playing a game with Frenchies. I'm nearly 1650. I'll play 'til 1800 and try the code modifications I mentioned above. When done, I'll upload the WBsave, if everything works (there's no bugs or CTDs), so we can have a sample to start with.

Great maps, Talkie Toaster :goodjob: . I noticed there is none of South America and of Australia. And I have one doubt: in the maps of Asia, there is one named as "1760", but it shows (apparently) the campaigns of Alexander the Great. Am I wrong?

I think there should be some map of South America by 1800 in my Enciclopedia of the History of Spain. I'll check, scan and upload it.

Ah, sorry, error on my part. The map was made in 1760 and showed Alexander's campaigns. I was just getting really desperate for stuff in Asia since I only had the Ottoman empire actually close to the period.

Well, I'll look on my books for some maps of Asia, also. Hope I have something for tomorrow.

Hey everyone, just stopping in to see how the mod's been doing lately. The progress looks absolutely amazing. Rhye, you never cease to astound me :D

Just to help you guys out a bit I would suggest this site: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/historical/ to find a bunch of great historical maps. At least to my knowledge it is the best source for them on the internet.

Of course if you're actually serious you should consider buying or borrowing an historical atlas book. Thats what I've found to be most useful overall.

I think the best is to wait the mod be finished (It will be in the end of february?)

And rename the name of this Thread :)

I think it's better to wait, too.

BTW, here are the maps I promised. I haven't been able to upload them, until now. But after reducing their size, and compressing them to maximum, I've been finally able:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/103080/maps1800.zip

Despite the fact that they are in Spanish, I hope you find them useful.
