Welcome to the Schizophrenic Asylum.
This serie of game was inspired by a discussion in the Nobles's Club bullpen thread. The goal here is to
play the same map with 4 different leaders. In this thread, we will discuss the plan for the rounds.

We will keep almost the same boilerplate than Noble's Club, the audience for this serie will be Noble players and up.
Since there's already a lot of games going around, we will do a SA game once every month.

Spoiler for leader list :

SA 1 - Pericles - Staline - Saladin - Hannibal
Schizophrenic Asylum 2 - Joao - Ragnar - Willem V.O. - Roosevelt

Next game, TBD.

For map creation, we will use the same guidelines we are using on the Noble Club serie, since it works well.

I will attach to this thread a zip file with a set of scripts to generate the appropriate text for a post here on the forum, and an other script that will generate game files for the provided map and selected leaders.

PS: please feel free to correct my english since it isn't my native language.

Content:
CFF_post contain a script to generate the starting post for a NC/SA/IU game.
extracted_civ contain extracted informations for all civs, traits and UU/UB.
generate_game script to generate a zip file containing the game for various levels, w/o huts.
Schizophrenic_serie script for the SA serie, which take a map and generate zip for each selected leaders at various difficulties.
XML Originals Civ IV XML files, used to extract informations.

I never set execution bit on my scripts, so you may need to do a chmod 700 to execute them without invoking sh.
I tried to create those scripts with compatibility in mind. I developped most of them on a Solaris 10 box, and it should
work without modifications on linuxes, *BSD, AiX 6/7.

If you have issues, let me know, I will maintain those scripts.
I'm playing Sid's games since the Civilization 1 got released in France, more than 20 years ago. (damn !). I can't
see when I will stop playing it :-)

Here are the first 4 leaders I picked for our first run:

Pericles of Greece (Cre/Phi)
Hannibal of Carthage (Cha/Fin)
Saladin of Arabia (Spi/Prot)
Stalin of Russia (Agg/Ind)

Every traits are there. I'm unsure that it will be possible later on, but at least, we could try to have various traits for each
leader.

If everyone is fine with those leaders, I will prepare a map, and generate games.

Good idea. If the goal is to figure out, which leader is the best in long run, during many games, the rules should include, that at least first moves were made simutanously with all leaders. That would exclude knowledge of map as an advantage for civs You are playing after the first one.

Who should we run for our next run ?
Once again, a combo of 4 leaders on the same map.

I think we haven't play a water-heavy map since a while on NC/IU games, that may be interesting to select one.

Any suggestions ?

Obviously, Ragnar. No water map comparison is complete without him. Financial on water is hard to beat. Both the trading post and the beserker are great uniques for water maps too.

Sun Tzu Wu

How about:

Willem (renaissance powerhouse with an excellent UU and UB and top tier traits to help him get there fast)
Ragnar (excellent warmonger pick for water maps, amphibious rifles are yummy)
Joao (can probably get the most out of GLH)
Churchill (perhaps the weakest, but if you can somehow produce 8EXP units out of the gate, a powerful "CR3 Maceman into Redcoat" upgrade becomes available)

How about adding Roosevelt over churchill? With his traits he can get to the GLH the fastest of all the leaders. Plus, if someone takes their game to the later stages, navy seals.

There shiuld be at least one organised leader for cheap lighthouses.

Fair enough. Churchill wasn't that great of a pick for a water map anyway. Besides, IND trait really shines on these maps since production is scarce and outproducing AI's production modifiers when building key Wonders can be really tough...

What is favoured with water maps? And we want to check, what can has the biggest impact on win propbs
1) easy acces to main watermap building --> organized
2) utilizeing sea commmerce --> financial or industrial
3) set of nice sea UB/UU
4) huuuuge food
5) fishing start technology
6) maybe creative to reach those fish and create "bridges" between islands

so we need leaders who compose these favours, but not take them all

For me choice should be:

a) Ragnar : financial + trading posts + fishing
b) Roosevelt: Ind + org
c) Elisabeth: financial + easy food -> great people + fishing
d) Willem: late UB but very strong on the map + financial + creative
(e) Huayna / Darius)

If one more leader needed, than Darius being the only one financial/organised or even Inca as the power of Quecha is weakened on an island you start alone, but the traits Ind/Fin is very powerful (and in fact creative after pottery)

I really wonder how GLH strategy (+ToA + Collossus) of Rossevelt can stand against financial trait. Or it is better to capture it useing Ragnars +1 movement ships?

Portugal is not a sea civ with cheap settlers and workers, so I will keep him for later games. Feitori=a is nice but comes very late and makes only this, what other listed leaders have from the start. Joao is not an equal leader to those listed above when playing island maps (though he is great for Terra, Continents, Medium and small, Big and Small, all mapscripts then create few bigger landmasses and nice coast). OTOH additional hammers from workers/settlers overflow can spoeed up GLH, but he is still not a leader for this game.

updated first post.

Eli could be a nice choice, but we still have time to decide, the next game will be in 2 weeks.

I bet you haven't seen this. If anyone can exploit GLH to its full potential, it's definitely Joao with his massive settler/worker spam capability.

Besides, I really don't see a point of having 3 Financial civs. Where is the variety?

The variety is 2nd trait/uniques. If we have to use leader once in a cycle, I will keep Joao for medium/small map, not a typical archipelago

Ragnar may be slightly different if you rush berserkers but Lizzy and Willem are pretty much identical in their playstyles: Build a tall empire with a focus on science, eco-up, Lib something along the Rifling path, attack somebody with CR2 rifles paired with cannons preferably. From there, either go space or beeline a solid military tech (Arty/Rocketry/Industrialism).

On the other hand, Joao is all about going wide. His traits really compliment a brutal REX after GLH is secured while at the same time making a deep Astro beeline (skipping anything that isn't absolutely necessary). I will try to demonstrate it if Joao gets picked.

Map rolled and tested with Ragnar.

Spoiler map details :

It's an archipelago map, with high sea level.

playable civs:
Ragnar (Fin/Agg)
Roosevelt (Ind/Org)
Willem VO (Fin/Crea)
Joao (Imp/Exp)

I selected Joao to have a different gameplay versus the others.

Cool. I can't wait to see the map. Since I've made a pretty compelling case for Joao, I will pick him for this round.

I look forward to it.
I will replay the map with Willem I think, it was fun to play with Ragnar, but a bit too easy IMHO.

Next round will be in the 2nd week of July.
What kind of map and leader would you want to play ?
