Hey Civ fans, guess what? I got a PM from Jeff Foley of Atari (sr. brand manager) regarding the policy for the next patch release :)

This was in response to my message to Firaxis posted in the expansion thread.

Jeff states that patch's are sometimes held up by 'various scheduling issues' but (and this is the good bit); 'No longer'
Apparently the next patch is all but done, and is being held back until QA is finished across 'all versions', at which point it will be given a worldwide release.

I have replied telling him from my POV this is fantastic news for future releases, and I am happy that this will be their policy.

Now folks, I know we are still waiting for a 1.21f patch for europe but at least we know that after this we will get a better service.
We also know that Atari is reading these boards and responding to the communitys requests.

Just thought some of you here would like to know this :)

That's good news to hear, I mean, read. :)

I'm in the States, so I've already got the latest patch, but I think that the hold up on a European patch is a disservice to customers on both sides of the ocean. It's obviously a larger disservice to Europeans, but we Americans are feeling the affects on the multiplayer environment as well...

This message from Jeff Foley pertains to the next patch, let's call it PtW 1.29 for convenience. If they are holding that back to synchronize world-wide release then that's a very wise step. :D I guess that means they'll skip 1.21 for non-US, but they could have told people so. Kudos to Alimentado for the appropriate letter that prompted this response. :goodjob:

Hehe, just as soon as the Euros get 1.21f the Americans will get another NEW patch :p

That's my take on it, too. The point I was trying to make is that they need to get both sides of the pond on the same patch! It's a tremendous disservice to both continents to have a 'segregated' multiplayer environment and an even bigger disservice to Europe to be a patch behind just for the sake of good gameplay!

They need to get a global patch out to even everything up. I can't believe the patchwriters haven't discovered Navigation yet...

I think they're looking to trade Communism for that.

~ Oh yeah, and last I saw, Jeff of Atari actually registered as a user here.

Most probably between 11 and 13 Mb.

A patch for what? CIV3 or PtW?

It shall be for PTW. They stopped making patches for vanilla Civ 3 long ago.

cool i didnaw even know they were workin on another PTW patch, i can't wait

This is GREAT news to hear. I'm sure that most US version users will be only happy to wait to be fair to the Europeans.

And I am very suprised to hear that Atari actually lurks here! A lot of it would be for copy protection, I assume, but they must listen to what we say, maybe even what we want for games...

This is good news. Thanks Dr Alimentado for getting this information (and possibly causing them to take this decision in the first place)

Not that I have a Mac, but when are they going to release PTW for Macs? If they don't any time soon people that are using Macs are not going to be hapy with Atari and Firaxis.
