screenshot issues with f12

I assume you're using Steam? I would just change the hotkey.

I use Screencaptor. It's free, and you need to press alt+prtscrn.

So... does anyone have trouble using f12 to take screenshots?

I'm trying to do one of these screenshot-playthrough-story things in the Stories and Tales forum. My print screen + copypasta into MS Paint turns up a giant black box of nothing. Ok Steam, fair game, we'll play by your rules... I look up the screenshot key and it's f12. I take a few pics of my starting settings, no problem, screenshot the loading screen for the leader I randomed, still good.

But in the game itself, when I try to screenshot my starting location, F12 takes a screenshot (I hear the shutter) but then immediately starts loading an old saved Gandhi game I finished playing long ago. I try it again just to confirm that this is legit, then open Steam to see if I can change my screenshot keybind.

I find it, change it to take a screenshot when I press P (I'm staying away from the f#s), exit steam and restart it, open up CiV, and load my initial save. I press P, and nothing happens. No shutter sound, no SS in my steam folder.

FFFFFFFFF- does anyone else have this issue? Or know a different way to take screenshots? Doing all these screenshots is gonna get old fast if I'm being confronted with Ghandi's derpface every time I press f12. :c

Edit: still fiddling with binds, shift+f12 doesn't work, none of the numbers work, -/+ are bound to zoom, and it doesn't help that I can't change CiV's keybinds or even know what they do. I don't even know why F12 chooses to reload old saves. :s

I immediately rebound my Steam client to take screenshots on shift-ctrl-alt-f12 instead because of conflicts on another game. If you can't find a decent key to rebind it to, doing something like that will at least keep it from making inadvertent screenshots when you are really trying to do something else.

By default, "Printscreen" is the key that takes screenshots in Civ5. You don't have to copy & paste them, they will show up as Civ5ScreenXXXX.tga under <documents>\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ScreenShots

F12 reloads an old save because in civ 5 that key reloads any QuickSaves made with the F11 key (although this was broken for a few patches.) You can try deleting the files <documents>\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Saves\single\quick\QuickSave.Civ5Save and <documents>\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ModdedSaves\single\quick\QuickSave.Civ5Save if you don't normally use that feature.

Or, if you don't use Ctrl-1 and such for units, you can always make 1, 2, or so on your key. Of course, gotta remember to change it for next time.

I use a software called FRAPS (download it at Moderator Action: Fraps.com; link replaced for a better one. ) for SCREEN SHOTS, GAME VIDEOS, ETC...
Pressing F12 on Steam is very buggy.
On FRAPS you can do what you want, anytime and anyway you want it :)

Cheers everyone ;)

And, when using FRAPS, remember to change the keybinds (just like you have to with Steam). Otherwise you play Civ for a while, then discover you have a Fraps folder with tons of screenshots and videos you took - without knowing/meaning to.
