SE/SSE experts needed!

I play on Emperor and do a bit of both. I bulb if I see a big advantage - such as an opportunity to leverage a religion or help win me the race to liberalism. Otherwise, I settle or build an academy. If there's also the need for a large civics change and I'm not a spiritual civ then I might even use a GS to facilitate a GA for the anarchy-free change. :D

Late game that is probably the best use for a GP (barring a GE or GM for Mining Inc or Sid's respectively0. At that point bulbing only shaves off one or two turns of research and there is not enough time left for the culmulative benefits of settling. On epic speed late game civic changes are atleast two turns, so you get the value back that way plus the increased science output for 10 turns is nifty.

Yes, late game golden ages are the best way to go. Most domination games will be over by that point, so that usually goes hand-in-hand with space race victory which goes hand-in-hand with running a CE.

This thread has been very helpful to me, and not just for the SE.

Before this thread I had never really put much effort into great people, and rarely even assigned specialists. Now my super science/great person city is one of my first priorities in every game, even if I'm running a CE in the rest of my empire.

Actually, now that I'm more familiar with the basics of specialists and GP manipulation, I think I'll give Elizabeth a try and explore the virtues of the hybrid economy.

Thanks to everyone for the tips!
