Sea or Landmark Sea

What is this? What is this terrain? This is what I have been looking for.

I want this desert terrain. I gotta gotta have it PLEASE. :please:

Guardian, are you sure this is the Civ3 terrain? This game doesn't seem to be a Civ3, but terrain, suppose, may be converted if we beg to Pounder.

What do you think I'm doing! I'm begging, I'm groveling, I'm pleading.
Pounder if you can deliver on this, yours will be the only name on my Xmas list. :D

Does Slitherine pay you for that? He's been known to steal material before.

It was H.Balck's terrain for Panzer Corps, he was using my mod on his terrain, I wasn't planning on asking if I could use his desert terrain.

I was just saying I was flattered that he was using my birds, dolphins, whales, contrails, etc..... in his mod for another game.

Strange ????? I see no mention of your name in this thread.
Is it possible, that he didn't make any of the terrain himself?

These look very good. :goodjob:

I was thinking, with someone else posting typhoon/iceberg/monsoon graphics (who was that?), how to use them? Answer: making them barbarian units and restricting them to landmark terrain sea. Would this work?

Would this work?
A reasonable question.
making them barbarian units
Yes, this will work.
restricting them to landmark terrain sea
No, this won't.

There's a trick with making some of water terrain types impassable for wheeled units (unit property in the editor) - and make some naval units "wheeled". Yes, it works.

A few screenies (as promised long, long time ago ). Best to open them in their own window rather than with lens pic.

Rio with a sea lane attached to it (the minimap shows that my map has become a bit lane-happy): The gulls mark the spot where Sea tiles meet the LM Sea tiles nicely. Unfortunately then its a bit empty.

Northern Atlantic Pics 1 and 2. Now in the more northern picture things are perfection (using your file without the atoll, since I am looking forward to use it as a resource). The other picture is a bit empty, yet it works quite nicely.

Thinking about using the gulls randomly on either coast or normal sea tiles and leaving the whales and more clouds to mark the LM sea routes. This was there'd be gulls where there is land nearby and "far travelers" where there are currents. Good or bad idea?

ps. any ideas how to best implement a Sugarloaf or Gibraltar Rock?

How did you do the North Atlantic Ocean? Bonus resources? Same could go for the Gibraltar Rock. For the Sugarloaf I'd recommend a bakery.
That Greenland looks a bit too fertile to me.

Sorry to be a bit OT!

@ W.i.n.t.e.r: What is the base map you're using there? I've seen you post various screenshots in a couple of threads now, and I don't recognize the map :)

That Greenland looks a bit too fertile to me.

That's just the tundra graphics he's using :)

I would guess that he doesn't use ocean tiles in his game.

He probably only uses: coast, sea and lmsea.

Like you said: he would use bonus resourses for the text.
Hi guys. The letters are indeed bonus resources that are just there for decore. No actual bonus is derived from owning a tile with these letters. And they are mostly out on ocean tiles which I use but only as a filler.

Ocean tiles simply separate continents from one another and no trade is allowed via ocean tiles. That's what the sea lane tiles are for (trade = coast at start, later sea and lmsea). Block a sea lane and intercontinental trade effectively collapses.

Also, do sea lane tiles offer quicker travel over ocean tiles for most ships (except large capital ships that will ignore any detrimental movement variable imposed on ocean tiles).

@ Virote_Considon:

Yep. Its the tundra file by... by... :| mhhh I edited the files a bit to feature the sandy coast edges. Hence my map lacks snow but it looks quite realistic when one adds a few puddles of marsh land. Just what the coast around Canada looks like in summer, before one gets to the lakes and forests.

The map I am using is a heavily modified 362x326 map by EL Mencey's. Most people preferred his larger version but I never liked having the South Pole there. If like I could upload it. Would need the respective terrain and resource files along, though.

There's no such thing as too much modding material.
