I only ever use google. I don't see a need to use another search engine because google always gets me what I want :dunno:

google cus its what firefox has by default. Although now that I think about it, I rarely if ever go to www.google.com anymore. Its just so much easier to type what I need in the url bar.

Every time?

Lately, I've been using Bing when Google doesn't get what I want on the first try. It catches what I want a lot of the time, but I suspect the situation would be similar if I was using Bing first, with Google as the backup.

Pretty much - I can't remember the last time I searched for something and didn't find it. I suppose that's because I know after so many years using the internet what I can find on search engines and what I can't, and so only search for things I know I can find easily...

That's a good point, it's also interesting how much more effective some people are at finding stuff on the web simply because they have a better idea of what to use as keywords for searches.

However, there are still some searches I'd expect Google to get, that it doesn't.

One thing I've noticed is that sometimes I'm searching for the homepage of a site, and google will bring me a bunch of subpages from the site, without linking to the actual homepage.

google for the same reasons which have already been mentioned by Mise. i can't remember when google last failed me

Google is what I go to first because it's integrated into FF. If I don't find what I want there Bing would be my next choice.

Each is better than the other in their own way.

I am using Opera's default homepage which is Opera Portal. Mainly I have every webpage that I use bookmarked and Opera Portal is a fairly good search Engine.

You guys realize it takes <1 minute to swap that over to either Yahoo or Bing?

And why change when the default is already good enough? The only reason Id change the default search engine was if I had localization problems.

Any of the search engines are "good enough"; I'd much rather use the best one, and since it takes very little time to use any search engine, using the default because it's default is a poor reason for using the default as opposed to a different one.

I use Google, because it generally has a better page rank order. When you start using advanced features(like searching for exact pharses or ommitting keywords) Google kicks everything else's ass.

I find Dogpile to be an adpt name for it's owner. Yahoo ain't much better.

Wait, so you prove my point and contradicted yourself. If any of the engines are "good enough", why switch? They will all work fine.
