Searching

Why is the searching option so limited. Sometimes you just have to have words that are less than 4 letters long!

You can add a * to fill it up, I believe.

But I could be wrong...

Didn't work I only got 3 hits when i searched for Civ*.

Do a search on 'search'. I remember reading threads complaining about this same thing, and the suggested solutions in Site Feedback.

I disabled that wildcard * feature a while ago to save server resource. I will consider re-enabling it...

Didn't there used to be an option to search / view all new threads? I wish we had the option to search a particular forum for all threads since X, where 'X' is a date --or-- had filtering options inside a forum such as "show all threads from the last N days".

If we already have this and I'm overlooking something obvious could someone throw me a clue?

Most of the time after I hit the search button I forget what I was searching for anyway

All right, here's a clue: Look at the far right pull-down menu right under the list of threads. This may or may not be what you're looking for, though.

"Far right pull-down menu under the list of threads"? The only pull down menus I see are the forum jump list and the CivFanatics Quick Links. Am I missing something?

Oh, sorry, I guess I wasn't quite clear. I mean right below the list of threads. There are 3 pull-down menus: what to sort by, descending/ascending order, and the one you (may) want: show threads from ___ (the last year, last 100 days, last 2 days, etc.). At least that's how it is in Classic style, and I think Ancient is the same way.

The problem is that some short words are essential to limit the search results. For example "windows XP" is not allowed, and just imagine what you get if you search on "windows." Why can't we have at least a search on an exact string with spaces in it?

Yeah, just try "Marla's World Map", and the search goes ballistic.

Oh, I'm well aware of that, but that applies to threads and what I'm looking for would apply specifically to posts.
