second UU

Hmm but how do you explain that the :hammers:s that were going into a building have just become people? I know it doesn't really matter, but I am quite happy for it to become money as is now (in Civ4), but I would prefer if you got some kind of bonus similar to what the wonder would have given you, perhaps if it was the great wall it would keep barbs out of that cities fat cross. The Pyramids would give you +1 great person point (engineer), Temple of Artemis (25% trade route increase), but of course whatever bonus you get would depend on how complete it is. only 10% complete, you just get your :hammers: back, 20% you get gold, more than that sliding scale of wonder specific bonus.

You can just as well ask why you can build only one Colossus in your empire. Why not 2, 4, or 20? I would however welcome a way to save the hammers put in a wonder someone else built. Maybe there could be a national wersion of some wonders (like for example National Wall and Great Wall), so that the first civ to build it receives the full version and the rest can build now and later a smaller version. This of course would not work for wonders like AP or UN, but might make sense in most other cases.

well, your smaller AP or UN would just be some sort of cathedral or parliament type building. Obviously wouldn't get as much international sway, but maybe just gives like extra happiness or something.

They haven't become people; they have become equipment and training for some number of people you already have that is insignificant compared to the number of people represented by a population point.

So by building a pyramid they learned how to handle swords and spears?

Ah I get it. So when your units engage in combat they do not fight, they stockpile "the force". They die only once a battle is over. It's abstraction like math or Guernica.

It's abstraction like numbers in a game representing units rather than actual people out there fighting, yes. That's kind of the whole point.

Although it may sound strange:D I prefer my? version of an idea of small wonders for everyone, rather than this abstact abstraction. It seemed wrong in Civ 3 and I'm glad that they changed it in Civ 4. Even if it makes building wonders more annoying.

Well I personally prefer MY idea of big wonders and smaller versions if you fail to build it in time.

Mine is better.:D It's easier to handle. It's not like if you built a foundations of a Pyramid and someone else built a whole Pyramid then the foundations are worth being able to choose Monarhy as your civic, but you can still build a Grand Tomb on this foundations.

Maybe Civs should still only have one uniquie unit, but the name of the other units be that name for a particular civ. Such as the suggested "Composite Bowman" he would be called that if you play as Egypt but act just like a regular archer.

So it would be the same unit with a different label, right ? That seems particularly pointless to me, it neither does what I want from the game nor prvoides meaningful UUs for people who think that's a good idea, no ?

No I think it would be silly too, I want unique units, I just want you to earn them.

We had a taste of something along these lines in Civ 3 wiyh Statue of Zeus and Knight's Templar and it was a real fun, having units noone else can have as a reward for doing something noone else managed to do.

This is probably the wrong thread, but I think that there should be a unique scout for someone. He gets better rewards from goody huts and is capable to scale a mountain (and can't be attacked while there), although it takes 2 turns to get up and 2 more to come down. Scaling a mountain would be similar to getting a map of the region from one of the tribal villages.

I modded extras in thus, and kept all the originals:

UK: SAS (Paratrooper)

USA: Continental Army (Rifleman)

France: Légion Etrangere (Marine)

Germany: Heinkel HE 178 (Fighter)

Russia: Red Guards (Marine)

Zulu: Boers (Rifleman)

Vikings: Longship (Trireme)

India: Khasla (Swordsman)

How about one UU for the nation, and one UU for the leader?

For example:

American UU: Homesteader (replaces Worker, +100% farm and pasture build speed)

Teddy Roosevelt: Rough Rider (replaces Cavalry, +25% vs. Machine Guns)

Abe Lincoln: Blockade Runner (replaces Ironclad, +50% city bombardment)

George Washington: Minuteman (replaces Rifleman, drafts without draft anger)

I'm sory, but I just don't see how a second UU would anything useful to the game. Some UUa are overpowered as it as, so wouldn't they just get bad seconds. The ones with already bad UUs get good ones then. That isn't fun, just bland.

I agree about the option to make UUs based on play. But I thin it should be technologically based.
Example: You are the first to discover Rifling! Choose a UU:

1. Redcoat
2. Not now.

Obviously, it needs balancing, but I think with work it wold be better than just adding a bunch of units that add little depth.
