I can win Monarch reliably, usually by:
--Oracle/metal casting/Pyramids/GE/Great Library. Can usually get Oracle even without marble, and I guess I've been lucky e few times in a row on finding Stone.
--Absorb someone else's early religion.
--5 to 6 cities; usally all my econ will support. Usually in 1st place by this point, due to getting out settlers faster than most of the AIs.
--Develop peacefully. Often have cities with c.15 before my first war. Does cause me WW problems.
--AP, mainly for the bonuses.
--When I have trebs, overrun the holy city of the absorbed religion.
--Maybe one more war, maybe two, until I have easily the largest civ.
--Cruise until convenient to win by some available method (diplomacy excluded as cheesy).
--I also suspect that I chop moderately less often than most in these fora, and whip slightly less often. Can't find enough situatiosn where they seem worth it (or maybe I'm missing something).
I suspect that much of this won't work on Emperor, so I seek advice.
Constraints:
--Shaka. I rearely play either Aggressive or Organized. It's time.
--Judaism. Never done it, never seen the movie.
--Mausoleum, Zeus (if at all possible). Never seen these movies.
I plan to try a strategy that I once saw described that involves going to war VERY early, with c. 2 neighbors in order to steal their workers repeatedly. The idea was to get Woodsman II or Guerrilla II by fighting barbs, then use the fact that the AI usually fails to take into account the movement implications. Impis should supercharge this; downside is easy meet for enemy Axemen. Tried this on Monarch, unsuccessfully, maybe because I built a settler and 2nd worker first.
Have at me!
