Sesn02 - The Bare Necessities, NOT

No 1 if we care to move 2 southish to get to the river, a second town could have the wheat.

No 2 is interesting only because of the ivory, pretty useless otherwise.

No 3 I'm allergic to floodplains in the capitol.

No 4 is one of those difficult start, do you want max tiles and settle on a BG or do you want a couple of useless coastal tiles?

I would pick NO 1 if we move the settler to the river.

#1 settler east if that's agua dulce NE of the wheat...

#2 Statue of Zeus... :mischief: but it lacks freshwater. I'd rather have sweetwater than a lux at my capitol.

#3 Settler south...

#4 Settler NW... lots of forest chops... interesting...

#1 gives us bourbon to go with the branchwater. ;)

I've got two votes, from Bede and Gozpel, both for the "A" start.

Scout made some nice observations, but didn't voice a preference?

Frank and Matt have yet to mention anything at all about them.

I am abstaining, unless there is a tie.

Bede, Scout, Gozpel - one of you guys want to volunteer to start it when we do decide?

I'll go along with Goz and Bede if that'll simplify things. And I'm up in two slugfests (SGOTM and Bede2) so I'd rather not start us off...

I can take it now, Sesn.

Play ten or twenty?

First will play twenty, then tens.

Unfortunately, I'm not at the right computer to post the save. Will you still be able to play it tonight? 7ish our time I can post it.

Sho, nuff. I be hanging in the 'hood.

Sounds good. :)

Incidentally, this will be our roster, unless someone has issues with it:

Bede
Gozpel
Frank
Sesn
Scout
Matt

Well, neither one of the start is a 4-turn settler factory. #3 has the food, but falls short on the shield department. Don't see that often :crazyeye: .

With the variant restriction, I don't mind NOT having fresh water at the start. My #1 vote is A), #2 choice is the one with the Ivory :hammer: .

The vote is for A. Bede will have access to the start in about an hour.

And a prayer for Brother Bede to chant: "Break the rules, or break my bones.

Ok, here's the save.

I might suggest moving the worker W to see if that is fresh water or not, otherwise, I guess we have to move S?

Bede - UP
Gozpel - On Deck

BTW - Did I mention I updated the first post with the roster for easy reference?

Well, being the contrary so-and-so that I am, the worker moves to the wheat and the settler east to the banks of the lake.

3950BC
And in keeping with a threat made to Sesn earlier the capitol is named Hyannis (I can't type Tenowhatever anyway).

Worker digs ditches and the city builds a warrior and the shaman starts looking into moving heavy things without putting logs under them (the old guy is a heavy thing and old so can't keep his balance on the logs). The big chief wants mounted spearmen with his Jags but is too cheap to pay full retail for the knowledge.

3750BC
Two hundred years later the worker finishes the "Little Dig" and decides to put down the road. The town trains a warrior (named Spawn of the Old Guy, Spawn for short) and starts another. Spawn heads south.

3650BC
Hyannis grows, gets pissy so the old guy throws a coin in the muddy street and the urchins fight over it, making at least one of them happy.

Spawn finds a funny looking critter with long white horns growing out of its mouth, big ears, and a really long nose.

3550BC
Spawn locates a really nice place for his brothers and sisters to live, on a hill with a lake and river view, next to the tuskers and some sugar for rum (the kids don't like the old guy's whiskey anyway).

Hyannis trains another warrior named Sprat who sets off to the west and The Old Guy orders the kids to get ready to leave home and go to the lake house.

3450BC
Sprat finds the coastline and Spawn finds a red border in the south.

3350BC
Hairy guy in red(?) furs comes out the fog and confronts Sprat. He calls himself a Byzantine, introduces his leader, a woman named Theodora, then beats his chest and boasts that his people know how to smelt and scratch symbols on stones. Sprat is not innerested in scratching stones, so he first scratches his beard, then makes an offer for smelting, thinking it is another way to catch fish. Theodora is as greedy as a Persian rug trader but isn't much of a haggler, so Sprat tosses the Byzantines a casual salute, bids them "G'day" and shuffles off to the east, looking for a bass pond since nobody would teach him how to smelt without emptying his wallet.

Spawn goes trespassing looking for watermelons to steal. Theo is annoyed.

3050BC
Found Cotuit

Lose track of time (nobody has invented a calendar yet) and accidently hit enter on EOT 20. Save is 2950BC with nothing moved.

So we've got some ivory, and Theo is already encroaching on our lands.

Scout may get to see his beloved pouty face soon. :)

Hyannins and Cotuit, huh? Why do I think we're going to have some crazy city names by the time it's all said and done? :crazyeye:

By my count, Hyannis should be a nice little factory. Hopefully we can get Cotuit to a point where it can keep up with the settlers. Then Spawn and Sprat can have some nice summer homes to build.

Did Theo start building the Colossus for us yet?

gozpel enters the pavillion ever so arrogantly, his beady eyes notices the "Talisman of Succession" left on the floor. Deftly he picks it up and hides it under his jaguar T-shirt and briskly walks out, muttering something about - "Fat kings that can't even read the seasons..."

Got it. Darn Theodora, I feel crowded already.

Gozpelcuhtli (Lord gozpel) walks through his small, but prosperous kingdom, slightly confused why all his people were grinning like village idiots. His treasurer, the cunning old Megapixl, explains how the former emperor showered the Azteca commoners with gifts. That was his way to convince everyone, that he would be the best to rule for another term.

(100% research - it was 20% science and 40% luxes? We need those horses, if for no other reason than planning next city placement)

Fortunately Gozpelcuhtli had stepped in just in time to make great changes. The people were getting fat and lazy, as they sat and chewed roots and leafs all day instead of working the cornfields.

The short era of Gozpelcuhtli's reign is written in his own blood on his serpent skin dressed chimal (shield)

2950bc - Spawn climbs a mountain and there are 2 floodplains closeby.

2800bc - Hyannis pop 3 and set luxtax 20%.
Spawn finds a GH.

2750bc - Pop the hut and get barbs.

2630bc - Hyannis granary -> settler.

2590bc - Cotuit barracks -> jag.
Luxes 40%.

2550bc - Spawn finds spices amongst jungle and marshes a bit NE.

Wheel in 4t at 70-30 and -2gpt, we have 42 in the kitty.

Worker is chopping forest next to Cotuit, so Jag will be available early. We can road the ivory soon. Settler due in 3t.

Spawn like imps before Byz shuts the gate.

Great, moving right along. :)

I don't understand the last comment though. :hmm:
