Sesn03 - Bad Apple Goes To War

As for the horse, I don't think there are mountains by it. If you look at the large screen shot I took, the hittite city that shows in the lower-left of that screen shot is the one with horses. The horses are coastal, too, so if we had a city on the east coast we could easily keep those horses disconnected with amphibious landings.

Gah! Why oh why wasn't Giza founded 1 tile S to get the iron in our borders? :smoke:

I don't think Giza's location was/is an issue. 1 South of it's current location puts it within 3 of 17-1 and 5 tiles from Heliopolis. From a standpoint of relative city placement we're in good shape. That settler should go S of Giza and park next to the game on the river, that will automatically bring the cultural border around the iron.

I see we're building a road through the woods by Byblios. I'd cut the trees down for shields first since it takes twice as long to road a woods tile.

The lux tax can be dropped 10%.

We can deal with Sumeria for Currency and Polytheism at the cost of 25 gold and 26 gpt. Then we could make a run at Monarchy, albeit around a 10% research rate initially.

preturn,
move IronPack into town, hoping the barbs will try storming it and clearing the way.
lower lux, up sci save a turn.

IBT - get booted out of celtland. notice the crown?

1- Byblos cat > cat,
Sumer is building SunTsu's.
kill a hittie archer in the west. push stack forward.
change Giza to a cat.
kill a barbrider with a chariot. settlers can move in better safety.

IBT - lost that chariot to barbs.

2- Thebes archer > settler, Heliopolis archer > archer,
just moves.

3- Memphis cat > cat, just upped my lux 2 notches. squeezing a worker out.
HEliopolis archer > archer, Elephantine archer > spear,

4- Build Iron Skillet > worker.

5- Thebes settler > archer, Memphis worker > archer, 17-1 walls > spear, Giza cat > cat, We smell good worker > worker.
we smell is still blocaded, so will divert some troop that way.
tweak sliders, compensate for that lux raise.
kill 2 hitties, get 1 E.

IBT - which is immediately attacked and killed (and under another bow, too)

6- Currency in, Poly at 70 in 8 and some change.
Byblos cat > cat,
Kill 2 hittie bows out of GemTown. on its walls with 2 bows now :D

IBT - lose another bow and another chariot to those barbarians and hitties.
Thebes archer > chariot,

7- attack Haran, perfect kill, still no leader.
start roading the iron. got 2 workers on it.

8- Heliopolis archer > chariot,
THE CELT have a BIG BOOK in ALESIA.
up lux to accomodate Heliopolis.
build Gold Fish > temple,

9- Thebes chariot > settler, Elephantine spear > archer,
dodging the hittite bullets.

IBT my cats drew the barbs out of the mountains. now we can deal with them.

10- Heliopolis chariot > FP?, 17-1 spear > sword, Winery cat > cat,

POLY in 4, losing 5gpt.
the cats are protected by a E spear, and have done thier part in trying to survive.
sent 2 iron workers towards smelly.
need to orginze the western front a bit.
in the east archers protect the worker gangs, but too many barbs out there. need more troops there.
we can sure use the hittite GemTown.

also forgot to change the Archer builds to Swords :blush: do that...

Hey if I am up in the next week please skip me. I am defending my thesis on Thursday, and am slightly preoccupied at the moment. As in I have to make my presentation, and do some more corrections. The Thesis is ~1 hour from being done, the presentation, not started yet. That and the course defense is simultaneous with the defense, and I have yet to study.

Got it. Man those barbs sure suck... :(

I notice our east is filling up with the other AIs. Wonder how many more towns we'll be able to fit in with all 7 civs after our backyard. I'll look at it more thoroughly tonight and do my best strategery then.

I'll play this in a few hours. Looking at the save, where should our settler due in 2 turns go? I figure we can either make a stab at the iron up north or at the horses in the east. 3NE of Skillet looks appealing to consolidate our eastern border more. The best land remaining seems to be SE of Skillet, but between the barbs and the Hittites I don't see that as a good choice.

I'm also thinking a run at Monarchy after Poly finishes up. I bet most the AI has it anyway and we'll be able to research that pretty cheap.

I would go for the iron. Iron is the single most useful resource, as well as the most expensive to buy in C3C.

inherited turn

Switch Memphis and Elephantine to swords.
Move the warrior from Thebes to Heliopolis to keep them from rioting.
Gold Fish needs help; that archer won't be the last and one spearman is too little defense for a border town.

IBT
Hittites land an archer by Byblos. Barbs pillage a tile, but mostly seem interested in the Arabs.
Hittites also seem to be pushing north of the Gem town rather than going after Gold Fish.

1) 530BC
Kill two barb horsemen.
Archer in Byblos promotes after killing the Hittite barb.

We burn Harran with no losses.

IBT
Kill a hittite archer. Spearman seems to be heading to pillage our iron.

Thebes: Settler->Sword
Byblos: Cat->Barracks

2) 510BC
Science to 60%

IBT
Kill another Hittite archer; our archer promotes.
Hittites land another archer by Byblos.

Memphis: Sword->Sword

3) 490BC
Kill another Hittite archer.

Our first sword heads east to the main battle lines.

IBT
Hittites have a paradigm shift and turn all their forces toward Gold Fish...
We learn Polytheism. Science to 50% and set on Monarchy, due in 21.

Giza: Cat->Cat
Skillet: Worker->Cat

4) 470BC
Everybody but the Hittites know Monarchy.
Switch Gold Fish to Walls. Hopefully it will complete them, too.

IBT
Kill an archer at Gold Fish

Thebes: Sword->Settler
Ele: Sword->Sword
Smell: Worker->Cat

5) 450BC
Contact Netherlands. They're up the usual.

IBT
Kill two more archers at Gold Fish and our spear promotes

Dutch build Statue of Zeus in Utrecht

6) 430BC
Nada

7) 410BC
All that RNG luck finally caught up with me as our first sword dies trying to kill an archer.
The Hittites have six archers within two tiles of Gold Fish. Nothing in the west.

Redline a spear and kill it with an archer

IBT
Hittites want to talk. They will almost give us all their techs for peace. That's worth considering.

Thebes: Settler->Sword
17-1: Sword->Sword
Gold Fish: Walls->Cat

Arabs are building Sistine's. Man, we are behind...

8) 390BC
We have incense hooked up.

Found Tire Iron 1 tile south of the iron resource. I'm not happy at all with the location of the town, but the alternative just seems too far away.

For the newest settler I plan on pushing the west choke farther south. There is clear land there and I want to grab it while we can.

Hey, there's a cow. Underneath that one tile that we hadn't explored there was a tire. Maybe the next settler can go there.

IBT
Kill three more archers at Gold Fish

9) 370BC
Kill a Hittite spear.

IBT
Another Hittite archer dies.
Memphis: Sword->Sword
Winery: Cat->Cat

10) 350BC
Move troops around, nothing too fancy.

There's a WC from Winery II headed towards Memphis for MP duty. This is to free up the sword that is currently there (because I took a spear with the settler that passed by).

The settler is in position to settle and should next turn. The next settle I'd recommend heading to capture the cow. 3NE of Skillet looks like a good spot to take.

We have two stacks in position to strike next turn; they can either attack or seige and be reinforced.

Marketplaces in Thebes and Helio will be nice, but we need military too much right now.

We may want to consider peace with the Hittites to grab all their techs we can and take on teh Arabs for twenty turns. However, the Arabs do know Chivalry as they are building Knight's Templar atm.

Well, I have to say that I'm happy enough with how things are going for us, but kinda annoyed at this pangaea. It doesn't really give us any opponents with "direct access" except the Hittites. I'm fine with making peace with the Hittites, but the Arabs are too far away, excluding the outposts. Next opponent would have to be the Celts, IMO.

A word of warning though, is that Bede gets a chance at us when we revolt, so I'd have to have our troops on the wrong side of the empire if he redeclares on the Hittites .... :mischief:

Romeo - (skip) GL on the thesis :)
Tomoyo - UP!
Sesn - On Deck

Man, he could do that and ruin our rep, couldn't he? Aw, that'd just be plain mean! :devil:

Okay, got it, will play later "today" (*cough* it's 1:20AM). :)
