Sesn03 - Bad Apple Goes To War

You're going to have a tough time doing anything without a save. ;)
You, obviously, have not played many SGs with me. :D

I can't grab this for a few hours, but if someone could grab it, start the revolt, then repost it for Bede, I would appreciate it.

For that matter, if Bede wants to just grab it and start the revolt before doing his deed, that's fine too.

OK got it and will be done by 7:30.

Done. Anarchy started.

Two iron towns gifted to the Arabs.....

Not as subtle as I had hoped. Sorry.

Oh man, that's just mean...

What is the call on attacking the Arabs (after peace with the Hittites, of course)? I remember the call that the Celts were considered a closer neighbor, but does that still apply with the recent Arab aquisitions?

Or... we probably have enough units to stamp out the Hittites for good if we choose to. Still, I'd rather get them to sign over all their techs for peace and change fronts to get back our techs. Yet ansars... ugh

On the plus side, Abu's view of us will never be better.

Two iron towns gifted to the Arabs.....

Good show, old boy, I knew I could count on you.

I can't touch this for a day or so, so in the meantime, maybe people could voice an opinion about the next opponent? I'd really like the iron back, but I'm willing to slog against the Celts too. I don't know, do we feel the Arabs really have direct access to us? They'll prolly sign an RoP against us, except I would ally the Celts first. I guess it just doesn't feel right.

Am I being too stringent here? Can we survive against the Celts? Should that be a factor in deciding how we act?

Well, if it doesn't feel right, then that certainly can't be ignored. Finding the solution to problems with subjective terms like "neighboring" often IMO comes down to a gut level decision. The Celts' core is definitely closer to us than the Arabs and have better chance to get at us.

However, that is kind of a sticky issue as well. In declaring against the Celts (ignoring OW for a minute) what I would ideally hope to do would be to secure an RoP and possibly MA with the Arabs against the Celts so our troops can easily get to their lands. But doing that would prevent Celtic troops from doing the same to our homelands; the only solution would be as you stated -- let the Celts get the RoP deal themselves to get their troops into our territory. This would leave us to shuttling our troops via water to get to the Celtic towns, and may even fall under the definition of "psuedo-war" depending on your take of it.

And what happens should the Celts ally with the Arabs against us? I imagine we could just steam-roll (or be steam-rolled) through in that case as both sides would have ample access towards us. Ha, that seems to be the elegant solution, but not necessarily the survivable one!

lurker's comment: Bad Apple  Arabia is not only your neighbor now Abu's camel has his nose practically in the tent

I would say Arabia should die next. Get peace, techs and whatever from the hittites, then war on the arabs. Can you say G.A?

celts are closer...
arabs can be bought in to fight the celts too...
why not finish Hittites (get techs..) go celtonia... weaken them enough and switch to arabs?
but if we can go for arabia now, im all for it.

We need a little Fe to help our conquesting of the world. Looking at the minimap before the deed, It looks like Arabia has 5-6 cities near our borders. I would definately call that neighborly, especially after they just picked up 2 cities in our territory.

i think the concensus is that "Abu and the Towelheads" is our band of the week, having 2 top ten hits and 5 more top 40 singles.

I would agree. I'm glad it's so unanimous, even with the Bad Apple voting to kick some Ansar A$$. :D

Didn't have a chance today, tomorrow afternoon for sure.

OK, so we just started our anarchy and lost our iron. In retrospect, maybe I should have grabbed the game for a couple turns before letting Bede have it. I would have at least been able to get out a settler for the gem town. Of course, it’s not a huge deal, being REL.

I need to start pulling back the troops, and then switch wars. I’m not sure I can even get the Celts to help us, we don’t have a lot of goods to barter with.

I make peace with Hittites, getting HBR, Writing, Const, 79g, and two dinky cities. (Aleppo and Hattusha). Immediately declare on Abu. Can’t talk with Celts since we have no embassy, and it won’t let me build one yet. Research set at MM.

130 BC (1) – Memphis riots before I realize Bede prolly didn’t fix all the cities for me, huh? :crazyeye: Notice that we have a settler en route to the gems. Still can’t establish an embassy, maybe because of the anarchy?

110 BC (2) – New King Sesn named. :D Establish embassy for 85g. I can get the MA for 21gpt (our entire income), and 67g (leaving us 2). I’ll hold off a turn or so to try to have a little money to work with. WC rides into undefended Tire Iron and auto razes it. :hmm: Should have been our citizen, right? Iron Skillet has a pike in it, unfortunately. Least it isn’t a musket.

90 BC (3) – Dial up Celts again, this time we can get the MA for 20gpt and 84g, saving us a total of 3g over the span. It does leave us with a couple gold (5), and 1gpt. Gonna be walking the razor edge a bit, but I do it. I manage to dig up a couple taxmen to get us up to 6gpt. Gem Warfare founded. Have yet to see an Arabic unit.

70 BC (4) – For whatever reason, the people decide to put a new front on the cave. Sending troops across the continent.

50 BC (5) – Greeks (last civ) settle a city near our lands.

IT – Spear in Gem Warfare defends vs an elite horse.

30 BC (6) – Meet the Greeks, they’re up the same as everyone else. Cats rl an archer near Iron Skillet. Attack and kill it with an elite archer. Send Hittites Monarchy and wine and 6gpt for CoL and Philo. MM was too expensive.

IT – Arabs come talking peace, will even throw in Lit.

10 BC (7) – Not much doing, just moving more troops around.

IT – Lose an exposed WC on defense. D’oh!

10 AD (8) – rl two pikes in Iron Skillet, and archer outside of it. Flawlessly lose a WC attacking Iron Skillet. Two swords finish the job though. Tire Iron too founded, and just like that we have both iron back. :D

30 AD (9) – Gems now connected, can lower lux to 10%, getting us up to 20gpt.

50 AD (10) – Moving units towards Muscat, I want the Dyes. :)

Wrap Up – Well, I kinda had to mortgage our economy for a bit there, but I feel like we are in better shape now. I have met very little resistance from Arabia. They seem to be having trouble getting through the Celts. I was pretty stupid with the WC’s, and had to build a couple more to try and trigger the GA with. Remember that Bede gets another go when we trigger the GA. :mischief: Most of our units are either in We Smell Good, or Iron Skillet. Be wary of the Hittites, I have seen some random units moving towards the area of Memphis. There are a couple Celt settler pairs running around that I didn’t boot, for obvious reasons.

M60 – UP!
SW – On Deck

I won’t be around until Sunday evening, or possibly Monday

IBT- Ragnar wants 22 gold. Ok. Sumer building Copernicus. Up to astronomy, eh? Well that’s what a pangea at this level will do to you.

Turn 1 (70AD)- Sci up to 30, MM in 8. Move troops next to Muscat.

IBT- Reg Arab LB comes from Muscat.

Turn 2 (90AD)- Kill Arab LB with vet horse. Use cats against Muscat, and a 2hp spear still kills our elite sword. Follow-up attacks kill the spear and it’s partner and Muscat is ours. Hattusha gets a scientist. MM in 6.

IBT- Another Arab reg LB kills our spear in Muscat. Arabs finish Leos in Damascus.

Turn 3 (110AD) 3hp horse is redlined, but kills the LB.

IBT- Celts squeeze in a town next to Mansura.

Turn 4 (130AD) Bring up some more troops, but little else.

IBT- A few civs are building Bachs. Reg LB kills a sword at Mansura.

Turn 5 (150AD) Vet sword kills reg spear at Bukhara and then a WC does the same and Bukhara is ours. And it’s Golden Age Time.

Now where’s that Bad Apple? :mischief: The save
