SG Lurkers, ready?

ok let me stare blankly at teh wall and I'll get this save out soonish... may lay down first... bad I dea liq bad idea do not lay down nooooooooooooooo:xmascheers:

cheerszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Okay. Since I have upgraded tp the 1.52 patch, I have been getting freeze-up's. :shakehead
I will try a few things, might even have to attempt a clean install.
Hopefully I can keep playing.
If I can't get my game to work with 1.52, I will have to revert to only using the old patch.

do a clean install... there's so much junk in there from well trying to get the game working.

start from 1.0 and patch directly 1.52, use the ingame patch, the one from civfanatics was somehow corrupt.

should have no issues.

Liq is awake now let me read the books luv left!

Cheers!
-Liq

Seems screenshots still acting weird. so lots missing =/

preturn:
Been wrestling with try to get the game to stop crashing all week (1.52 fixed it) so not had much time to agonize over this sg... least luv muf has stepped up in the anal-ylzing!

ok let me make sure all the towns are working properly.

not sure on pigpens specs... 3 are forced and well a scientist is kinda eh... ok keep the scientist.

lol first whales square I've ever seen worked! so sad!

shaggy looks ok can use a forge tho so delaying the caveral for now... not that the ship is wrong I just feel the foge is better to finish now rather than later.

[1]1375 AD

WE LOST!!!!!!

erm no.. wait that's just cryus looking to trade music and 290 gold for banking... yeah that's nice we can use the gold to pay for our research rate =p.

We get education...!!! woo liberalism in 9... can trade it to everyone meaning.. we have a shot at liberalism I think!!!

kumbi builds um whatever.. I build a longbow cause it only has offensive units. 5 turns!

gao gets a longbow... decide on notre dame in 30 turns.. not the worst rate in the world build wise and when we fail it we can use the cash =) fortify the longbow in gao.

Walata gets it's forge... go for an overdue barracks in 4

mine hills as they CAN pop undiscovered metals

there's a knight in center... I'll leave him there =)

uh a catapult... ok!sleeping it in walata

HAH see a cottage on plains near angle!!!!!!!!!!!! changing that bad puppy to a watermill.

pikeman in timbuk fortifies we can use alot more modern units.

lets see what we can get for education!! uh just divine right. next! lol

boring builder turn!!!

[2]1380 AD
saladin is a moron and wants silk for our furs again... make up your mind you nut!

ooo lots to do!!!!

[3]1385 AD
monty adopts theo.. why was monty ever NOT in theo??? hu huh tell me you effing mad man monty you!

decide to place the knight in Walata

[4]1390 AD
Angle gets a crossbow... seeing as it has no real military lets get a longbow as well in 3 turns.. want to get a university there eventually..

walata's borders expand and do anything immediately.

Bulgar was captured by the persians ... that a monty city? as much as I hate to see our good buddy monty beat like a baby harpseal.... well I actually enjoy it!!!

Sealsagaintsmonty.jpg

turn science to 100% -80 gold a turn oh my!

[5]1395 AD
Walata gets it's barracks.. tough call. guns or butter... I go against Liq's very nature and queue up a maceman in 7.... a library would own but rather have a city to build a library in first.

Liq goes crazy with roads this turn!!!!! liq's adage, better a road on the hill than a pillager in the floodplains... then again liq is goofed up on cough syrup so ignore him.

[6]1400 AD
kumbi gets it;s longbow...32 beakers so go for a university in 25.

oooooooo gao has a forest grow near it!!!! CHOP jump on that forest FAST

capac goes free market... hmm nope the effer is not willing to trade for it... means he passed over liberalism tho.

[7]1405 AD
Djinne builds it's courthouse... university in 12.
slow down gau's population to shave some turns off notre... 21 to go.

Angle gets it's longbow.. university in 23 eww... for some reason angle is getting +3 health from 4 forests...
forests.jpg

I'd chop but um.... so work the forests instead, taking the eng spec off and get 20 turns on university.

Cyrus and monty make nice nice. bah

[8]1410 AD
nappy wants to trade 20 gold and divine right for education... uh eff that.

place science back to 90% -36 a turn

gao is not getting any health from the two forest so gonna chop both to help notre.. we really want that culture alone just to push anjar... nm all the nice gp points too.

[9]1415 AD
hatty wants open borders sure get off my screen you hag!!!

OMG!!!
nationaismwtf.jpg

I'll take Nationalism for 400 Alex! then go for gunpowder for

before I revolt lets see.. naw nothing interesting!

change to freespeech and free religion
+100% culture is DUH and free religion will score us a ton of good diplo... well not so much good as less bad!!!

put_the_brush_down_liq.jpg

upkeep is 47 a turn as well but why does civic screen say no revolt? wow no anarchy!!!! KICK ASS!!!

lets_all_get_along.jpg

see they all like us! *stuffs toku into the large box*

takin care of business!!!! lets grab taj... ug 50 turns in gao since no marble.. but hey who DOES have marble??? I cannot see any on the map so maybe this is a marble free world... I queue up TAJ in gao after notre pans out. (we want the artist GP there.

timbuk gets 56 hammers towards hagis

start the CHOP at gao.

[10]1420 AD
Saladin wants to trade 40 gold and divine for nationalism DENIED....
Hatshepsut wants to trade 20 gold and divine for nationalism DENIED....

DO NOT GIVE AWAY NATIONALISM!

Angle and Kumbi culture bounce! neother have immediate effect on borders.

Alex starts a golden age.

I decide to go 80% science and get +6 gold a turn instead of -30. Gunpowder loses a turn and is back at 6. Life sucks but we can use the positive cash flow.

RECAP
we still numbah 1!! actually the real news is we are solidly in top 3... the pack is about 250 points below us now.. nappy and monty are closer.

WE SCORED LIBERALISM FIRST!!

took the bog standard Nationalism choice to open TAJ for us and allow cav sooner rather than later...

We have a huge lead on nationalism/taj and no one seems to have marble... luv muf will obcess over this save and verify that! that means the 50 turns on taj at gaul is not too bad. chops coming in to help notre dame and seriously looks like we will score it.

Keep the artist wonders in gao and when we can, take that spec engineer off to generate pure artist GP's

DO NOT BUILD NON-ARTIST WONDERS IN GAO.

DO NOT TRADE NATIONALISM

FIRST RULE OF CIVFANATICS

THERE IS NO CIVFANATICS

:crazyeye:

Overall I added quite a bit of middle age troops to help defend can chill on military until grens and rifles.. switching to free religion helped us diplomatically and free speech doubled out culture output.

toku is dangerous again so beef up the east first when we get the next gen of military.

I missed a whale resource south of angle sorry!! work boat it and trade it for incence or um elephants or something.

pigpen is about to become a force to be reckoned with once it finishes it's forge.

anjar is a stubborn bastard.. gao cranking up the culture BIG time will help remedy that.

Work towards rifling in tech, keep in mind econnomics lets us swtich to free trade... a nice civic.

Lots of roads!! mining unused hills for pops.

Nice things so far about this patch...

can hit city screen from F1 now.. man that annoyed me before.

No anarchy for mere policy Civic changes.

No crashes, even with max detail!

shows the gold people have to trade on tech screen

tells you how many resources of any one thing you have on trade screens.

can tell workers to stop EFFING with your forests (not used this round!)

no more health bar during combat (not used this round!)

the 1.52 patch is amazing.. if you are having issues

1. delete all civ files from pc (saves and screens ok to save)
2. clear the bits in my documents as well.
3. clear windows temp folder
4. install free new copy of CIV then patch from within game (the civfanatics mirror was currupted).
5. reboot pc for good luck
6. go into ini and clamp fps to 30 and use window mode
7. try lower graphics settings if you were needing them before.

Another bog boring builder round from liq...
Tear it up luv, see what all crap needs to be fixed!

Cheers!
-Liq

First, :xmascheers: everyone.

I'm shocked Inca went economics but good for us; we just got a nice liberalism sling shot.

 :bounce: :band:

Liq, in the patch notes forests now add more health (as you discovered!) We've been choopin' fools (out of necessity!) but they do now support more health. Most of our cities have not been in danger of growing unhealthy, however. :) Also, Mansa is Spirtual (financial, spiritual) thus the no anarchy.

I wonder if anyone will attack us now (except Toku). Nice diplo screen. (Oh an as aside Angle has been sending it's troops to other lightly defended and/or border towns). But now I think you're right, we need to guard the East.

Hope the reinstall does the trick for you L_M!

Merry generic stat holiday
(or Xmass to others) <-non-offending wishes to all my homies.
:snowcool:

I'm going to go up to my elbows into my Turkey right now.
After the Turkey gets goosed, I will do my clean install.
I grabbed the patch from 2k (Firaxis), and it is waiting in my documents.
I had to use the pak/unpak thingy to get the game working before (ATI X800).
I hope I don't have to do that again, or I will have to uninstall, install etc.. all over again.

Fragmented files at 0%, did a scandisk last night before bed.
Hopefully, the new patch will allow me to install and patch-n-play without the extra hassle.

When (or if) I get the game working, I will be doing my turn this afternoon as the Turkey is cooking. If it takes me a little longer, it is because I am basting the bird and prancing around in my apron.

* Nice turn Liq. Woot, Liberalism. The AI was snoozing on that one.
No way am I gonna trade Nationalism! (Unless they offer me a trade for it with something like corn & 20gold, then I might). Tee Hee. NOT!

Good military build-up too. I bet we are still in last place, but might be getting closer average now. Will take a peek. Investigate our cultural boundaries too, not impressed with the culture bombs going off on our borders by our supposed allies. Hatty doesn't hate us anymore? I thought she was perma-frosty with us. Good news all around.

Will be back later, with either good news or frustrated flaming about patches, and computers in general. Ha ha.
Be on stand-by, Blackluck. If I fumble, you have to take the ball and run with it.

WELL DONE! :goodjob:

Hopefully we are over the worst now.

Will attempt the patch once I hear from Luv that all is peachy in that department.

Happy Holidays to all!

I am not sure if everything if I am ready, but will give this game a go in a short time. We will know soon if Muff is set.
* I have a small graphics glitch, but not sure if this will affect me too much.
So far, no hang-up's.
All I did was a clean install, and ran patch from my documents without pak-unpak. Seems okay, not positive, but we'll see soon enough.

This patch is not impressing me too much, I was almost halfway done
and it hung-up on me again.
I will go back, and continue playing after supper.
I hope to have my turn finally posted this evening.
Sorry it is taking so long, but Mrs. Muffin has me hopping, dinner is taking
some of my time, and I am struggling with a patch that hates me.

In the meantime, let me give you something to chew on.
A bunch of stuff happened, and I there is lots of exciting and scary news for
the next player! Too bad we don't have tanks.

Wish me luck, Lurkers. Be back in a few hours with the turn log, I hope. :xmas:

oh yeah spiritual... lol WTH was liq :smoke:

Liq was obviously too busy picking just the right baby harp seal jpg to worry about that crap!!!

anyway if we climbing the tech tree, get universities in the major towns sooner rather than later, with gao the exception, it needs those wonders.

forests were acting goofy... 4 forests = 3 health? also the 2 in gao never added any health. Not sure WTH.

Anyway, free religion was a major good move

Cheers!

Phone the Neighbors, wake the children...
Luv_Muffin has a log report ready for perusal!
(Thank goodness for auto-save.)
*********************************

Pre-turn:
I send the engineer citizen at Djenne back to work on a field.
Getting a hammer and two food, growth in 7, up from 21.
No change in University due time, so I'll grow the extra citizen just
for the extra population. We can always use more.

Kumbi has an engineer citizen too.
I have him working a hill/forest tile. Same build time of University
but growth a little sooner. Plan on sending a worker to add some hammers
to this city. Growth from 29 down to 19. University due in 17 still.

Gao has an engineer too. Growth in 14, Notre Damme in 18.
I think we have an incoming chop, so I send the engineer to work a
plains field. No I do not!
I noticed that we have two workers chopping the forests, so I work the
forests instead to get as many hammers out of them as possible before
they vanish. *slick move*
Growth in 9, wonder in 18... counting on them hammers, baby!

PigPen says goodbye to it's priest and artist citizens. (Keeping the
scientist). Growth from 20 down to 5. Forge in three (instead of two).
Still desperately seeking hammers in PigPen.

Thats about all I will tweak. I think unless PigPen gets hammers soon,
we will have to go back to specialists after the city grows. Nearing
it's happiness ceiling.
*********************************

1. 1425 AD
Toku adopts Mercantilism.
St. John born in Bagdad.
Worker sent to Khumbi from Djenne (Djenne doesn't need help as badly)

IBT: Saladin requests Open Borders.
turn543lm.jpg

After letting him wait in the lobby (Because I decided to type this first)
I will allow him the luxery of consorting freely with Lurker folk.
*Open Borders with Saladin!*
Still a Theocracy, but keep an eye on that. We want him as our puppet!

2. 1430 AD
Maceman finished in Walata, start on Hindu Monestary (for the kick in the
culture)
Djenne is celebrating "Luv a Lurker Today" day!
Carl Gaus born in Paris.
Chops all came in at Gao this turn too. Notre Damme in 12, move
citizens around, growth in 5 now.
Workers building watermill and windmill on the stumps of the forest tiles.

I also noticed that Saladin has Gunpowder. Keep an eye on him.

Restructuring Trade this turn:
turn550wo.jpg

Notice we are selling fur to HC for 3Gold coins/turn? Not anymore.
We trade fur to Hatty in exchange for wines.
We trade our other fur & our Whale resource to Alex, we get Ivory
and 5 gold per turn in exchange
(better than 3 gold anyway, only way he'd
let go of the Ivory was for a two resource trade)
We also get open borders with Monty, and trade our deer resource for
his bananas
.
*Open borders with Monty*
This should be a good start, we may even spread our religion around with
some of this trading activity.

IBT: Alex offers to trade Divine Right +10 gold for Liberalism.
Not happening tonight. Ask the next guy.
(Denied)

3. 1435 AD
Forge Completed in PigPen. Start work on Hindu Monestary.
Hagia Sophia due now in seven at timbuktu after a chop comes in.
Increase research to a whopping 90%, losing 30 gold per turn.
Dragging gunpowder in ASAP, before switching to a reasonable 80% again.
Gunpowder due in 2.

Nappy, Monty & Alex now all have gunpowder. I guess Saladin has been
selling to the axis of budhist evil!

4. 1440 AD
HC now has gunpowder. We get it next turn.
Monty adopts Organized Religion, Bureaucracy.
John Dalton born in Thebes! (Whose that?)

IBT: HC offers us Economics for Liberalism +570 gold.
turn563hv.jpg

I actually take this offer.
Economics for a Financial Civ? And a quick step up the ladder?
Okay HC, let's do lunch.
(Accept)
*We get Economics*

Monty offers us Divine Right (and some loose change) for Nationalism.
Not even worth thinking about.
Don't let the gate hit you on the way across the moat!
(Denied)

5. 1445 AD
turn578qn.jpg

Gunpowder is completed! Start on Printing Press (11 turns)
(Extra coin per village/town)
We are now 105 points ahead of our #2 competition, Nappy.
Switch to the Free Market Civic, Printing Press now in 10.

MM PigPen, health and city size are maxed.
Create another specialist, artist to join our Scientist (two total) in PigPen.

6. 1450 AD
Hindu Monestary completed in PigPen, start work on missionary.
Cyrus now has the Printing Press!

7. 1455 AD
Forge Completed in Shaggy. Caravel was in cue, due in three.
Printing Press now in seven.
Nagasaki Celebrates "We Luv_Muffin day"! (Not exact quote)

8. 1460 AD
Cyrus Adopts Organized Religion & Bureaucracy.
Hindu Monestary completed in Walata. Start on Library.
Library finished in Naggy, starts on Hindu Monestary.
University due next turn in Djenne and Kumbi!
Notre Damme due in 4, Hagia Sophia in 2!
I really hope we get them all.

9. 1465 AD
University completed in Djenne, Kumbi. Start work on Hindu Missionary.
Alexanders Golden age has ended.
St. Paul born in Pasargadae.
St. Peter Born in Heliopolis.
Borders of PigPen & Gao have expanded.
No real change to borders, but culture now engulfs Anjar and
culture expanding towards Saladin in the west.
I give PigPen an engineer, we now have three specialists in that city again.
Village being turned into watermill east of PigPen for hammer supply.
I will relocate cottage somewhere else.

Hagia Due next turn! Notre Damme in 3.

IBT: Saladin demands that we give him Liberalism!
turn589bv.jpg

This could potentially be very bad news.
In an effort to avoid conflict at all costs, I tell him to go suck a lemon.
(Denied)
He waggles his camel archer at us and...
scared2iw.gif

Well, he tells us something about building fires. Pfft.
turn595am.jpg

What am I, a boy scout?

10. 1470 AD
turn5101zr.jpg

The Hagia Sophia wonder is built in Timbuktu! Starts Workboat.
Shaggy completes a caravel, starts on a musketman.

Shake-up at PigPen!
I have a worker on our "fort" tile now.
Cut the lumber, then build the fort!
I have built a replacement cottage NW of PigPen, and am currently
removing the cottage by the river. Replacing it with a watermill.
Watermill due in 2.
I sent our engineer specialist to work the new cottage, so we now only
have a scientist and artist in PigPen. Unhealthy growth in 6 for PigPen.
I hope that watermill gets worked, we will slow growth and greatly increase
the hammers in that city.

Turn order:
Blackluck -- Next!
Liquidated -- Get Ready to Rumble
Luv_Muffin -- Mission Accomplished
Scowler -- skip til '28*
Percinho -- skip*
Sir Toma -- on hold*
Greggo -- MIA*

that liberalism for 570 gold and econ was a great trade. Econ's free trade is the win and liberalism traded wasn;t too bad a hit.

seems toku and sally was brewing for a war now... great. make a beeline for rifling and grens imo.

are the whales south of angle still not worked? get a work boat on them fast!!!

Cheers!

Summing it all up:
*******************

Notre-Damme due in 2 at Gao. After completion, switch back to growth.
Three missionaries coming due. 2 in one turn, 1 in two turns.
I planned on sending these to Saladin, or Monty.
Get in while we can. Might also want to send them to Nappy and HC
and go for the conversion.
Workboat due next turn in Timbuktu, send to whales.

HC and Cyrus now have Printing Press. Ours is due in 4.

* Overall, the Lurker Empire is getting easier to manage. Just keep an eye on what cities require (like hammers etc...), and make slight changes.
We still want to grow some more, ready to plant new city on BlackLucks maroon dot anytime somebody wants to build a settler.
Fort ready to be constructed, needs troops to garrison it. Will assist our overall military ranking too.
Research is getting fast, universities and cash are making a big difference.
Great people are being farmed now. We should have a nice crop coming soon.
Monty likes us more, Saladin is getting fidgety. I say convert him before we go to war. Or else convert some of Monty's large cities. Whatever works for you. Make sure we have at least one monastary in each city before we get to scientific method. It is a nice culture boost, and aids in research too.

Where we go from here is a choice I leave to the group.

interesting that monty stood still in points while we gained another 100 or so..

next 10 turns should boost our points even more with notre wonder looking like it's win. also taj will be nice if we snag it... no one in game has marble so we should get it unless someone uses engineers.

and jan is looming close... you know what that means right?

Flaming barbies!!!

better get back to testing the varient with the most barbs!

I was going to mention (but forgot) that Besancon is only *77% French.
Something like that (exact figure eludes me, checking screenshot folder). I was surprised! Especially after the culture bomb.
I have no idea what that means, but if you can use this info, you're welcome to it.
*Corrected data. 77% is the precise number.

What's going on at PigPen:
turn5182wj.jpg
Red X: Worker in position to chop wood, build fort
Yellow $: New cottage being worked
SkyBlue Checkmark: Watermill replacing village

Turn 1: 1470
Timbuktu starts on a University.
Workboat harvests whales.

Pigpen ---> settler (for maroon dot)

Djenne ---> Synagogue to fight culture pressure

I don't build a fort here; it's 25% defense, whereas the forest is 50%

Turn 2: 1475
nd.jpg

Renews construction on Taj Mahal; after a chop, due in 33 turns.
Kumbi starts on bank

Turn 3: 1480
workers work;
Can't spread Hindu to Saladin, about face and head to France.

Turn 4: 1485
Angle completes University, begins grocer (income)
workers work, half naked hindu head toward France
Saladin's golden age has begun

Turn 5 1490
Printing Press comes in; lots of good choices, but I go with Constitution (for the Representation)
due in nine

Workers work, Hindu travel

Turn 6 1495
Spreading Hindu doesn't appear to avail us much, as we are in free religion.
I'll spread it just the same.

Turn 7 -10 1500 1515

Missionary fails in Lyon; Jewish missionary begins in Walata (a few of our own towns don't have Judaism)

Monastary completes in Naggy, start Temple (culture)
Pigpen complete settler, begins grocer for health; it's at -1 health. I create an enginner, grocer due in 13, growth in 30
Settler is at maroon dot.

Nothing much to report, finishing up worker improvements, building stuff, etc.
We need to decide where to build the National Epic and Hermitage (both + great artist, and very nice culture)

Angar is still at 50% Arabian :(
The Inca are up Divine Right and Constitution.
I didn't sell any techs this turn.

The save: View attachment 108901

edit: I didn't see your post, L_M.
I didn't build the fort ... trees are better defense than the fort. You can :whip: me later.

Workers in Pigpen made ... cottages and farms on the non-rivered squares. At this point, most town are nearly or completely improved.
I started work on another farm in Angle, it's only at +1 food.

Blackluck said:

You didn't build the fort? Sure, the 50% defense bonus SOUNDS better than the 25% bonus from a fort, but I made a real cool JPG with X's and $'s and stuff! Oh man! You are another one of "those people" who let common sense and facts influence your decisions. Mrs Muffin got to you too, huh?

Forts are cool. People could say, "Remember that battle at Fort Muffin?" Instead, they are going to say, "Remember that battle in those bushes?" It lacks a certain charm. ;) (*teasing*)

Oh well. If we aren't going to obey my cool graphics, and instead choose the wise course of action, we can plant defenders at both forests north of PigPen. Whatever comes through that pass will have to deal with those defenders, or absorb attacks in the open from PigPen and/or Kumbi. We may not be able to gaurd it forever, but if Saladin wants to come through he will have to accept heavy losses to do so. May even reduce any attacking army intending on capturing PigPen to a skeleton force. Two defendable positions sounds better than one fort, now that I think about it.
