SG Lurkers, ready?

Patience, grasshopper. Lack of sleep = grumpy Scowler. Remember what happened to Toku and Nappy...

(0) 1814AD
- Djenne is at health limit. I could let it become unhealthy, but instead I remove a citizen from farming duty (growth now in 29) and make him a priest (West Point drops from 12 to 11 turns; finances increase from 39 to 41gpt).
- Walata and Nagasaki are both set to “avoid growth”!! Why??? Looking back over the turn logs I see that on page 19 of the thread I myself adjusted them this way to avoid unhappiness, but I also highlighted this fact twice for the following players. Guys, please pay attention to these things!
- Besancon: citizen switched from farm to cottage: growth still in 1 turn, but now our finances increase from 41 to 44gpt.
- Orleans currently has a 5.37% chance of revolting.

(1) 1816AD
IBT: Paris has been captured by Toku!

1816tokuparis.jpg

And who renamed that cavalry??? No, wait, let me guess…

And then:

1816hatty.jpg

Like that’s really going to happen.

- Angle: synagogue -> factory
- Orleans: theatre -> library. The city is still starving (now down to 3 pop) but the threat of revolt has finally receded.

(2) 1818AD
- Kumbi: colosseum -> factory
- I do some quick MM in Gao to increase the culture and GP points:

1816gao.jpg

(3) 1820AD
IBT: Toku is now sending his forces towards Izumo, pillaging on the way. Does Nappy wear nappies? It’s certainly brown trouser time for him.

1820toku.jpg

- Walata: courthouse -> infantry
- Hatty enters another Golden Age

(4) 1822AD
Not much happening, apart from sending some workers to connect and improve Orleans.

(5) 1824AD
- Marooned: infantry -> infantry
- Saladin adopts Vassalage…

(6) 1826AD
- Nagasaki: bank -> synagogue
- Rheims: Hindu temple -> courthouse

(7) 1828AD
IBT: Toku takes Izumo.
- Railroad comes in (workers begin upgrading the network); Combustion started (Saladin, Monty, Nappy, and Alex have this already, but of course there is no chance they will trade it to us).
- PigPen: ??? -> infantry
- Borders at Besancon expand, but it doesn’t seem to make much difference.
- One of our missionaries spreads Hinduism in Tyre.

(8) 1830AD
- Timbuktu: factory -> Oxford University. We could certainly do with a research boost at this point.
- Shaggy: university -> factory
- Yunus Emre (Great Artist) born in Gao. I’m hanging on to him so the SG can decide his fate. I’m inclined to use him in Tokyo (maybe we could even grab the iron), although Toku would be mighty ticked off.
- Another missionary spreads Hinduism in Bulgar.

(9) 1832AD

1832nappy.jpg

What a cheek! This is the same guy who accepted Monty’s bribe to attack us. On the other hand, we all know Sir Toma likes a good war… :joke:

- Kushans: observatory(?) -> infantry

(10) 1834AD
- Saladin cancels our fur for silk deal.
- Walata: infantry -> grocer

Notes:
- Hatty is willing to trade Combustion + world map + 580 gold for Assembly Line.
- Consider building Hermitage in Gao?

Current military standing is:
1. Monty
2. Saladin
3. Alex
4. Us

Look how quickly Monty is re-arming:

Last but not least, the save.

It's almost like you're trying to tell us something. :mischief:
Ooops, I really should have caught that. I went through the city screens so many times during my turn, but I guess I was looking too hard at Tokyo/Orleans. You'd think telling me twice would be enough, huh?
Welcome to Mrs. Muffins world, Scowler!

Funniest post in a while. *giggles* :lol:

Good turn Scowler. Got us a bit more cash. Oxford was an excellent choice for our capital. PigPen was working on a Market (I think). I was hoping we had the resources (trade?) to get some health from that improvement. Coins from that city are also a smart move.

Did you notice I put a rifleman in the trees north of PigPen? Can upgrade, but I wanted somebody blocking that mountain pass like we discussed in the middle ages. Saladin may be our ally, but I don't trust him THAT much.

Monty is a gem, ain't he? Maybe we need a few MG's and infantry on that border once Djenne builds the West Point Wonder. Glad that Saladin is keeping tabs on him. Toku is wailing on Nappy? Who'd have thunk it.
I bet Toku's core cities are emptying for this war. It should be interesting to see who wins this fight.

Good turn, Scowler. Thx again for spotting the naggy/walata thingy.
Next up is Sir Toma... is it tommorow in Australia today?

:lol:

Don't worry, I'm not blaming you (or anyone else for that matter). I also had a turn since then, so I guess I must have missed it as well. :blush:

Thanks for the reminder about the market at PigPen. It was one of those occasions when I jumped right into the city screen and promptly forgot what had just been built!

Gee, Sir Toma is going to like inheriting the empire with all the wonders that will finish during his turn.

I think the market in PigPen added happiness, not health. Well, a happy city is better than a sick & unhappy city I suppose. That city should be fine once we get a hospital.

As for the Great artist. Use it to research Communism? I think that would be a waste of a perfectly good GA, but it would help us catch the other civs. As for culture bombing, I was thinking about Tokyo for a long time, but now I'm not so sure. As far as I can see, it is now 1/4 ours, and has gobs of happy faces. I don't think it is anymore in threat of flipping. Tokyo is a refined city too, so even after culture bombing it, it may not push back Toku's borders.

Up north, we have two "developing" cities, culturally. Marseilles and Besancon could both use a culture bomb, Marseilles would be my vote. It shares a border with Monty, Nappy and Sally. If Marseilles can push Nappy's border back, Besancon would profit as well. Just an idea.

Tokyo or Marseilles, I'd say Marseilles but I want Tokyo to grow!
Maybe Shaggy?
That was lucky, getting two for two missionaries spreading hindism into Persia.
A few cities like Angle and PigPen can build the Pentagon. Angle is getting a factory, should we try for it? It takes so long to build... Hmmm.... Djenne?

From what i've been hearing i guess i'm up now. The only problem with that is we have some family friends that we haven't seen in years coming over in a few hours. Since i am currently cleaning the pool (or will be very shortly) that doesn't leave much time for civ. If i get a chance then i'll play later tonight but if i don't then i'll post here again and ask you to skip me.

If i play i'll try to:
Fix our finances
Build up our defence (i can smell another war coming)
Get our newly conquered cities going.

My next post will either be my turn report or my request for a skip.

Are we going for a culture victory? If we are will we make it. Our cities don't have that much culture in them and there is a long way to go.

Step right up, ladies and gentles if you want to partake in the opportunity of the lifetime! For one night only (or until the next the turnset), you'll have the chance to bet on which civilization will attack the SG next!

Will it be the treacherous Monty who just can't seem to get enough?;)

Or will it be Toku who cant just seem to comprehend prudence?:crazyeye:

Or maybe Nappy who has a death wish? :confused:

Or perhaps Sally (yes, Sally) who's been planning this for a long time? :eek:

Or Hatty who is hiding something up her tophat? :queen:

Heh, for the record, my money is on Sally.:goodjob:

That about sums it up for me.

Liq, stand by! Keep your finger poised for an intervention! Heh heh.
Hope you have a nice visit, Sir Toma. Friends is friends, you only have a few of them... and 5 billion+ other people are out to get you.

Um, Maybe once Gao starts pumping out GA's, we can culture bomb our own Big 3 cities and go for a cheesy victory that way?
We can still win a dom victory (it is technically possible, I never said it was likely), or a diplomatic victory (Monty and our two Hindu pals are almost a guaranteed vote for us!)

*waves*

Checking in on the state of the game ...

Cultural victory is pretty much a no go here, guys. Even with GA's, that's only 6k culture and you need 75k in three cities.

You're best bet for a win here is diplo, or domination (I still find it horribly ironic that an intended builder game turned into yet another war monger orgy :lol: )

were effing surrounded by psyco's!!!!!!!! Culture THIS BL! :lol:

role call!

monty
nappy
tokuy
sally w/ wrong religion

all that's missing is a powerhouse IZZY to declare war over and over.

btw toku's name... had to add the Y he was feeling lonely.

as for monty, he's gonna attack someone.

Cheers!

Howdy all, I'm in position to play a turn if that's good? I have a whole day of watching football ahead of me and Mrs Percinho is out shopping.

[EDIT] I'm at 1.52, and favour using the GA in Marseilles. Let me know if either of these are a problem.

Figured I'd get the go ahead to jump in, so have been playing turn this arvo. :)

Prefilght check shows that Scowler seemed spot on with his plans for his turn, that being get the economy sorted a bit and cover defence as well. We have been at peace for far longer then in recent times, so someone’s about to attack. I can feel it in my bones.

There be wonders ahead, namely West Point, National Epic and Oxford University. Beyond that, economic buildings are the way forward I think. Let’s see how it goes…

[0] – First up there’s a science to be chosen. Decide to choose electricity, as this’ll help us towards tanks.

[1] – Gao: National Epic – Courthouse. We’re spending 9 per turn here.
Djenne: West Point – Infantry.

I send the Great Artist towards Marseilles. Hinduism fails to spread in Bactra. I guess we were due a failure after 2 from 2 previously.

[2] – Marooned: Infantry – Factory. Could become a production powerhouse. I think the Ironworks could possibly follow…..
Marseilles: Library – University.
Angle: Jail – for the inevitable war.

Saladin declares war on Hatty and moves to a war footing. This is good news as it ties them up, and means our eastern border should be safe for a good while.

I pop the great artist and it steals us some nice, cultivated squares.
See pics below.

[3] – KS: Factory to Wall Street. There’s a veeery healthy income in this city, second only to El Capitale, so I think this is the right place for WS.

Saladin obviously prepared well as he’s catured Giza from Hatty, meanwhile Alex builds the Pentagon.

In other news, Arsenal are already 2-0 up on Cardiff…….

[4] – Toku asks us to declare war on Nappy. I consider for a while, read back over the thrad to try to gather the feeling amongst others, and then……..decline. I have a few units on reconnaissance duty in France, and there’s infantry around in well defended cities. I don’t think there’s any cheap wins for us, so I’d rather play it a little safer and not over-extend. It does, however, mean Toku is distinctly unhappy with us, but that’s nothing new!

Djenne will keep building infantry whilst I’m up.
Tokyo has been set to Uni for more culture.

I’m also building a rail network between the core cities and the extremities. If we do end up in a war, I want quick movement everywhere.

[5] – Nothing to do! :coffee: Notice that Toku seems to be reduced to half-@rsed attacks on well defended cities. See Vandel pic below...

[6] – Oxford Uni is finished. Change to Dry dock to allow us to start building some sort of navy. There’s enough health to take it easily. Nothing else much to do. Toku’s attack on Vandel was spectacular……….ly unsuccessful. France seems quite well defended at the moment.

[7] – Gao finishes courthouse and is set to a grocer. It’s unhealthy at the moment, so hopefully that’ll fix things. It’s also on the brink of growing so for the moment I’ve stagnated it, which has also increased its GP points.

Angle finishes its jail so is set to infantry.

[8] – Wallatta finishes what it was building and is set to factory. I’m so glad pollution’s been taken out of this game….. Meanwhile, Nagasaki finishes its market and is set to a grocer as it’s about to grow to maximum healthiness.

[9] – Timbuktu celebrates We Lurve the President Day. [party] Nothing else happens.

[10] – Djenne finishes another infantry but this time I set it to a factory. Am now thinking this will be a good site for ironworks, as it would be able to churn out 8 point military units at the drop of a hat. Set shaggy to build a grocer as unhealthiness will be threatening soon. Neither of these have actually been started though, so feel free to change.

Will take screenshots soon for digestion. All in all it was a pretty tame turn. Rebuilding and the polite declination of an invite to war. There's some serious units hanging around in France, so we must be careful before attacking. We're only 1 tech away from tanks though, so that may change things...

Nice turn - and it's always good to include the football score :D

EDIT: Final score: Arsenal 2 -1 Cardiff

Point to note: Saladin's war with Hatty will have automatically ended our defense pact with him, which weakens our position against Monty...

A couple of screenshots to look at:

P.S. I've not yet worked out how to post them inline, so if anyone would like to enloghten me..... :blush:

Yay! Good job. No wars for us ATM, they are kinda out of our price range.
Almost ready to rumble though.
Glad we got those wonders built, too bad about the Pentagon.
I agree with your choices of improvements.
Our empire is getting a big upgrade this cycle of turns. With our population and size, that can only speed up our dominance of the east.

Nice to have you back, even if it's for a turn, Percinho.
How much of an effect did all those national wonders make on our cities?

Edit: I was wondering what the heck you were talking about, Cardiff? What civ has Cardiff? I thought Arsenel was a barb city too, for some reason. Heh heh. Ooops.

Posting images: Do you have yourself some webspace where you can host your images? I use imageshack. You upload your images there. Once they are stored in your webspace, you can insert them into your thread like an email, or just place the url between the
