SGn00b - for those new to SG's

Hehe!

Maybe we should make courthouses a priority after we're done with Music? Otherwise any cities we keep from the Incans will cripple us

Agreed. I think we need to do anything to get the maintenance down to manageable levels and courthouse are obviously going to go a long way with that.

Geez, you'd think with Sir Toma on holidays now for a month he could get his backside in here don't you? It is only 11:10pm here in Australia. What's he doing? Having early nights? :crazyeye: :joke:

Definetly get courthouses. I love the slavery/Organized combination (capture city, whip courthouse), unfortunatly we aren't Organized (that would help with the civic upkeep too). Death to the Incans!

I'd take a risk and say Pie that most likely when your turns come up, you will probably start or continue to build courthouses in our cities to reduce the maintenance.

Where's everyone gone? Beef? You still around mate? Looking forward to seeing your turns. I know you are most probably playing other SGs too (or the RB Epic games) so we'll see you when we see you :)

OT kind-of: I was just reading Moonsinger's description on how to win on Deity, located here. Very interesting. I've just given it a go and almost pulled it off on my first attempt, except 2 civs in my game got to Axemen and started attacking me with them. I think I could've followed Moonsinger's instructions a little better. Anyway, I retired with a nice score. It does make you feel pretty good when you can almost "beat" the game on Deity  Give it a go!

Beef is still up right?

Yep. If my math(s) is correct, Beef has another 13 hours or so of the 48 to post, if we are strickly playing via the 24/48 rule. I don't know if we should be, seeing we are only 5 days into the new year. Besides, I'm not inclined to enforce it as everyone was lenient when I was a day or three late (without posting why I was away - Dec 30 my turn came up - I posted a "got it" on Jan 2nd). I guess that one is up to ST or by majority etc.

Still here - forgot all about it yesterday, oops. I've actually been playing Darwinia...

Off to play it now, will report back after. Regarding the GL, it'll be going somewhere which already produces GPP - there's no point spreading it about, they're beeter concentrated.

Right, writing this as I go - pics to be added after optimisation.

1100AD (IHT): Not a lot of military builds going on here, but a few things about to finish - I want enough mounted units to be able to take the Incan border towns of Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu (only 2 defenders each) straight after we declare war, and obviously some more units to back them up afterwards. Great Library's going in Beijing, the only city with any GPP output worth mentioning.

1105AD (Turn 1):

Revolt to Theocracy since we're about to finish some military builds and want the extra experience. Guangzhou completes market for an extra 6gpt, switches to horse archer.
A source of silver near Good Enough! Amazing. I was wanting to put a road on that tile anyway, to help get into Incan territory faster, so it's not even going to waste worker turns :)

1110 AD (2):

Euclid and Heron born far away. Otherwise, boring turn.

1115 AD (3):

Cho in Good Enough -> Catapult (need to remove that defence bonus). Promote Cho to Drill II for 3-4 first stikes :D

Euclid seems to be heading for Machu Picchu for some reason - getting an academy off Huayana would be nice :)

1120 AD (4):

civ4screenshot00202nr.jpg

w00t! GL in Beijing! Straight away that shaves two turns off Music and bumps our GPP/turn to 15. The game recommends National Epic as a next build, and I'm sorely tempted, but decide to build a catapult first, probably followed by another unit, but the Epic should go in there after that - it's an incredible national wonder.
Angle Lighthouse -> Catapult, Good Enough Cat -> Cat.

civ4screenshot00212bp.jpg

Monty's back in the south. No matter, it frees that HA from barb spotting and we can clear it later (I suggest razing, it's not very well positioned really).

1125 AD (5):

Beijing Cat -> HA, Guangzhou HA -> HA, Ironchou Granary -> Lighthouse

1135 AD (6):

Realise I've messed up the dates on these turns. Meh. Anyway, Huayana comes wanting our iron for his silk - tell him to shove it. Telling the enemy you've no iron just before they attack you is NOT a good idea.

1145 AD (7):

Christianity spreads in Tlacopan (Aztec city in the south of our lands) - Monty must be really compressed if he's only got to Tlacopan in the city list.
Good Enough Cat -> Cho. Start preparations for war, moving units toward the border.

1150 AD (8):

Mansa comes after Open Borders. After some thought, I decline - it might annoy him, but I'd rather not have his units wandering through our land after Monty. Next thing I know, they've made peace. Meh.

1155 AD (9):

Now he wants to trade spices for our gold - sounds good to me, and might improve relations a bit.
Angle Cat -> Barracks
Beijing HA -> National Epic
Guangzhou HA -> War Elephant (we know the Inca have no iron, ergo no pikes)

The battle lines are drawn, and I go for it:

North:

South:
civ4screenshot00237lq.jpg

1160 AD (10):

Music comes in, and Homer is born in Beijing. suggest we use him to CB Machu Picchu as soon as it's taken, reinforcing our culture and ending the resistance - to that end, I move him south. As instructed, research begun on CoL.

Machu Picchu falls - cats bombard to half defences, then Cho kills archer (love those first strikes) and sword kills spearman. Nice and easy! forgot to take a pic, I was too excited :P

civ4screenshot00244zs.jpg

A scouting Horse Archer (who I failed to give Sentry to due to a misclick. D'oh!) spots Cuzco. Not hugely defended, but nowhere for us to stand with a defence bonus next to it. Oh well. Looking at the southern lands, Homer might be best used in Texcoc after all - leave that for the next player to decide.
No action in the north, but the army is now next to the city, so next turn or the one after might see another one in our hands. w00t!

A few monasteries and Christian missionaries might be a good idea - the science boost is nice (and they can only be built before Sci Method) and we're not on Org Rel any more, and need to spread the faith around these new lands.

Good luck whoever's next up.

Yeah!! Easy take down of Macchu and hopefully a few others soon? How many cities do you think we can take with our current armies beef? Happy for the culture bomb possibility while at war, and CoL is definitely the best thing to go for. I'll have to look at the save, but I'm thinking Texcoco could be the best place for that GA....it's sorely need culture for quite awhile.

And a roster. Incidentally, I did have a look a trading for Feudalism, but neither Sally nor Caesar would trade it, even though we're up at least Machinery and Music on both.

pling (Loves using the word "heathen" )
Chriseay (The Master Trader )
Sadan01 the Spam Machine (In bed failing to get up after all that smoking.)
BeefontheBone (Just played)
Admiral Kutzov (Up now)
Pie-es Tasty (Still Waiting Patiently on deck)

Oops, cross-post. I'd like to get the three nearest to us (including Cuzco) as a minimum, making sure we hold onto that Northernmost one - his other cities are all in the extreme north, it seems, which makes for an easy conquest. If we find we want to take some of those, feel free, but WW might be too much of a problem by then.

If you stop producing military, remember to revolt back to Organised Religion to get those courthouses up quicker.

Looks like a great set of turns Beef. Regarding the Silver near GE. Did that appear based on the randomness of the mine being there or was it already there? I don't remember seeing it when I played the turns however I could have easily missed it.

I'm thinking that the culture bomb really has to go in Texcoco with all the various borders from the AI encircling it. We need a clear path to that city, and even though the southern Incan city is now ours, which means we can road to Texcoco without the use of the coastline path (I haven't looked at your save but I presume, from memory, that we now have a bit more breathing room), it might be nice to have a coast path to the city too, in the case of moving troops via boat or for trade. Ahhhh, I'm not making much sense this morning. I think I need a :coffee: . Anyway, these points are just food for thought, regardless.

I can't really mention any points regarding firing the CB in the newly acquired Incan city without looking at the save.

Good Luck Admiral and kick some Incan Butt! :hammer:

I think I'll shut my trap

Good Luck tho Admiral

And thus, the Chinese invasion of Inca did begin. Go us!

I'm afraid that when I play my turn, I'm going to totally mess it up, because I've been playing Advance Wars Dual Strike almost nonstop since I got a DS for Christmas.

Also: 100 posts. Woo. It seems like a cause for celebration, but I don't really feel very excited.

The CB will definitely be useful in Texcoco, but might be needed to the north if the culture west of it is too strong - I think that's Monty's though, so it probably won't be necessary. Texcoco would almost certainly be the best choice.
Regarding the silver, it randomly appeared that turn, which is why I was excited about it - it's a very rare luxury we weren't likely to get otherwise :)

Ok, where in the name of (insert name of whoever our god is in this game, I can't remember) did my post from earlier go? And Sadan's? I've had posts on other threads I asked to be removed, and they never were....and here, it just dissapears....in the smoke...

I guess I'll just have to have another.

I noticed that earlier although couldn't post at the time due to some manager's here at work, hanging around like a bad smell. I would think if a Mod had removed them, that mod would've posted something in here. Very strange.

@Beef: We are very lucky in that case. I've only ever had the game once give me a resource after mining a hill for some turns (SP game). A very good stroke of luck for us :) With Gems and other resources once that taken-Inca city's borders expand, we are certainly improving our trading chances/likelihood besides commerce/production/food capacity.

Edit: I just did a search for posts made by myself, and only looking in the SG sub-forum. Well, this current post is listed and all the others before it in this thread, but not that post I made this morning regarding the mix-up with threads. Ok, so now I never posted it and I was imagining it?
