SGOTM 02 - The Real Ms. Beyond

A GS will only discover part of Astronomy - we'll either need 2 or to spend some time researching the rest of it. How close are we to 1 or 2 GSs?

Definitely agree on doing Astronomy first

Snaproll is up, correct?

I couldn't log-on to Civfanatics last night - did anyone else notice downtime? So, I couldn't play last night. Will play tonight.

Guys,

I'm having a real problem here - I can't connect to Civfanatics from home. I've tried 3 different computers at two entirely different physical locations using both firefox and IE, and I just can't get to the site. I'm at work now and obviously I can connect, but I can't download the game and play from home.

It seems I'm not the only one with this problem.

Until I can get this figured out, please skip me. I'm sorry about the delay - I literally spent a couple hours last night trying to resolve this, but couldn't.

Thats a shame... hopefully we can find out whats going on. I can download the saves fine, and hopefully Zalson can too, as he would be up, if we decide to skip Snaproll this round.

I've got it. I'll probably let it stew for a day, before i actually get to it. Any ideas/ strategies? If not, I'll probably go for Optics, and then continue to investigate the diplomatic situation.

Most importantly, don't research (or trade for) Paper or anything that's a pre-req for Paper (namely Civil Service / Theology)

That's to allow our scientist to research Astronomy

I'm gonna need a swap. UCLA's playing Stanford, and I obviously have to be at the game. I'll be able to play on Sunday night, and all of Monday.

Ok, I think that means me. I got the save and should have time to play this turn set in the morning. I'll check back tomorrow before proceeding to see if there are any other changes in the plan.

I don't have any screenshots. For some reason they all turned out black.

Not much happened this turnset.

1100 AD - Turn Received. Cancelled the gem for stone deal with Hatty. Changed research to go after Compass.

1106 AD -

1112 AD -

1118 AD - Lost the Hanging Gardens to another civ. In hindsight, I forgot to re-establish the gems for stone deal with Hatty. It is something to consider for discussion.

1124 AD -

1130 AD -

1136 AD - Compass discovered. Started on Machinery.

1142 AD - Lost a bad combat to a barb archer. See the spoiler.

1148 AD -

1154 AD -

1160 AD-

I only used the whip once during my turn set in Santiago to finish the forge. Two new cities were founded per the dot-map in the north near Tokyo and Osaka. Started courthouses in both.

Saved Game

Ok guys, I've figured out the problem and I'm back up with full connectivity. I'll go ahead and jump back in and take my turn, if that's ok. Got it!

Take it, Snap. Have fun!

Ok, here I go. This is certainly an interesting situation. I agree that beelining to optics then lightbulbing astronomy sounds like a good strategy. I check the cities and I think things are looking nice. Mao has some wines that we could trade for, but we are giving him the silent treatment.

Turn 1 - We meet the final civilization in the game (finally), Huayna Capac, who's firmly middle-of-the pack. He's Confucian, which means that Mao is still a nice safe outcast for us to persue, someday.

I whip the market in Madrid. There are some strange worker actions going on - we have lots of cottages surrounding size 1 cities, for example, while Madrid is still working at least one unimproved tile.

Turn 2 - Well, the barbarian problems aren't over yet. I see no less than four swords inbound and we are pretty thin on defense, really. I make it one of my priorities to rememdy this situation and push back the remaining fog.

Turn 3 - Scouting a bit, and I change Osaka to an axe to repel these swords. Machinery is due next turn, which is good - crossbows would fix these barbs right up.

Turn 4 - Just when I thought that crossbows would fix all the barb problems, the first barb horse archer pops. SHEESH! I thought we were done with barbs in this game! Unfortunately there are no trade opportunites with Machinery - everyone else has it.

As far a diplomacy goes, there are 2 major factions arising - a hindu and a confucian faction. We could side with the hindus, alienating the larger faction, but at least we'd finally have a religion. Unfortunately switching to either buddhism or christianity (our two holy cities) would alienate us with everyone. No real obvious option here. We can't go confucian because it hasn't spread to us yet.

Turn 5 - Most of this turn is spent cleaning up barbarians. I remember to cut us back to 0% research - we have 6 turns to go on optics once we start it up again, which will cost us about 400 more gold, so I'll turn it back on when we get that much.

Turn 6 - ...

Turn 7 - Hayauna finished up Chitzen Itza as you can see here. The barb threat has been cleaned up, so I'm trying to moce units out to bust fog now.

tiwanaku.JPG

Turn 8 - Research back on, Optics in 5

Turn 9 - Another horse archer appears out of the fog, forcing me to whip a spearman. Ugh.

Turn 10 - Not much! optics in 2 turns. Have fun!

Looks great! I guess Zalson is up next. I believe we can now access the Spoiler thread, correct? Compromise, do you want to be our scribe?

Argh... completely missed this. I'll try to play... tomorrow.

I'm still able/willing to be scribe. I should have it written up by next week some time. If someone else is just dying to have it finished before then, let me know and I'll stand aside.

Good luck Zalson. I'm curious to see how we go about this from here.

Guys, I'm debating whether or not to play this turnset, actually. I haven't played Civ since my last turnset on here, and it looks like this one will be more messy. I've actually thought about this once or twice... and my love for playing of this game is no longer there.

Therefore, I'm sorry for the hold-up, but I just can't play it. It's wierd for me to back out of something I've committed to, even if it is something as trivial a computer game. I'd rather be a cheerleader, and a contributor in that regard, but probably not.

It's sad, I think, to reflect on how interests can die out. But it's invigorating to see change. I hope this message isn't too much of a downer, and that I haven't dragged on you too much.

It has been an honor and a privilege.

Zalson

I hope that doesn't seem to formal, but it's just me thinking out loud. The resignation from the team is still very much there, however. Sorry I couldn't help out. Play with skill!

Hey Zalson: As long as you continue to root for the Real Ms. Beyond, you're cool in my book. Thanks for the attention and effort you've already given. (Actually, even if you're smart enough to root for Teams CFR and/or Peanut, you're still cool in my book.)

Since EL_OSO played a couple turnsets ago, I think that brings us to regoarrarr at the top of the order, with Beef on deck, right?

Thanks for your help Zalson! :)

I'm glad you let us know, and I hope you continue to root for us!

Cap'n is up, BotB is on deck.
